Michael Backes was my 2nd Great Grandfather. He and his family emigrated from Germany. They ended up in Wallingford, CT, where he started M. Backes and Sons, and ammunition and fireworks factory. He was married to Catherine (last name unknown), who I believe was also born in Germany. They had 13 children, I am a descendant of their son, Henry.

If anyone knows which of the Backes (if any) Michael Backes is a member of and/or where he might have come from in Germany, I would greatly appreciate the information.
