I'm looking for information primarily on the parents, etc, of Joseph F. Backes, born in Germany about 1856. His spouse was Laura, or Elinore, Netzel Backes. I have information on them and their immediate family, but nothing on his father and grandfather. They lived in Derry Pennsylvania and he died in Youngstown Pennsylvania.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Michael Backes - Wallingford, Connecticut

Michael Backes was my 2nd Great Grandfather. He and his family emigrated from Germany. They ended up in Wallingford, CT, where he started M. Backes and Sons, and ammunition and fireworks factory. He was married to Catherine (last name unknown), who I believe was also born in Germany. They had 13 children, I am a descendant of their son, Henry.

If anyone knows which of the Backes (if any) Michael Backes is a member of and/or where he might have come from in Germany, I would greatly appreciate the information.

Thanks.

Kim Dunn
All we know is that Florence Backes from Trenton NJ had a child on August 26, 1923 with Walter Umstead. She left Walter and remarried. Walter was 20 and we think Florence Backes was younger. We believe she was born around 1900. There is a question as to whether Florence and Walter were actually married, or if she was a married woman to someone else when she gave birth. So many questions...so little answeres.

Hello, I do not have much info on Mary and John. I have them moving to Miles City. Not much else. Hopefully you can help me with more on these two. I do have to offer quite a bit about Mary's family. In short, they are from Richardsville, IA. Just outside of Dubuque. There are still many of us there and we recently had a reunion. Marys brother Nicholas is my great great grandfather. I have located His grave site as well as two borthers and his parents. I am originally from Dubuque so I have many pictures of Nicholas and his family. Do you know what became of Mary and John? Did they move to California? How long did they live? I can send you much information if you wish. It might be easier to use my email account, nuptse2@hotmail.com. Hope to talk to you soon.
Chris

Looking for information on these two people. Anything would be most appreciated. Only Info I have at this time is that both may have been born in Germany, and died there. I have the name of only one child of theirs: Margaretha who married Christian Orphey around 1840. Please contact me at maggie402901@mchsi.com
