I am looking for information on Frederick William Backler, possibly born in East London in 1866 and his father William Charles Backler, who died before 1893 and may have worked as a Tobacconist. They don't seem to appear on Census or BMD records, so any help is much appreciated.

Graham, I do hope this reaches you. I lost your e-mail and address almost two years ago in a computer crash. I have been trying ever since to find your e-mail contact.
Hi, I know about Ellis Backler, his wife Louisa and twin babies. Ellis was known as the "black sheep" of the family because of a sad case he got himself involved in. But for the record, he was from a different branch to my family descending from William Backler and Mary Wiseman.

Hope this helps.

Caz

I know about Ellis and Louisa Backler. But they are a different sect of family to mine. I guess yours goes all the way back to Dinah Mynott, while mine goes back to William Backler and Mary Wiseman.

Thanks.

Caz

BACKLER had strong connections in Haverhill, Suffolk, England in 1880s and 1890s. A William Backler married the daughter of one of my ancestors which is how I came across the BACKLERs.

You can search the 1891 census for Haverhill, Suffolk at www.haverhill-uk.com on their genealogy page. There were several Backler families in Haverhill at that time.
