I have George W Bacom born in 1874 in Kentucky. He married Sophronia Freday, in Washington state. They went to Alaska and had two daughters Liddie and Gertrude, then moved to California and had a son George E. Bacom. Sophronia died in 1979 and is buried in Cicero, Onodaga, New York. I am looking for any family. I am related to Sophronoia. Any Bacom's out there related to this family?
Thanks in advance,
Suzy
Hi Teresa! My name is Kat Terry, daughter of David Terry who posted 10 years ago in this same thread (wow!). I am very new to genealogy research, and was VERY excited to find this thread, and especially your post mentioning pictures of my Great Grandmother, Carrie (Bell?) Bacom, and her sibs. (two of which are your Great Grandfather, David Manual Bacom, and this thread's namesake, Walter Bacom). I'm hoping you would be able to contact me for more info, and will also try the email address you've listed...hoping that is still current, also. Thank you!
mrrrow13@gmail.com

I do believe you are correct. I have finished one side of the family and have now started the Bacom side. I have run into a brick wall. I have been in contact with Kathleen Bacom and she was very helpful. My mother was a Bacom .She was born in Kentucky and had one brother and one sister. Her mother died when she was a few months old , and according to Kathleen my grandfather John Bacom died a couple of years later. If you have any information or have heard of this Bacom family please let me know. According to Kathleen, we are all related in one way or another --- we just have to put the puzzle together .Hope to hear from you.

Orrin Tucker

Hi, Pat,
Saw your Bacom Message Board and thought I would introduce myself. I don't know that I can specifically help you with your New York ancestors, but who knows? I too am looking for a Bacom ancestor, my great grandfather's parents. His name was John Bacom born in Green County, Kentucky, I think about 1840. At any rate, I'd be very happy to talk with you. We have one advantage. The surname we are interested in is rare. Please feel free to e-mail me if you'd like to chat about the Bacoms.
Kathleen

Hey, Pat!

Glad to hear from you! I checked the sketchy Bacom material I have, and I couldn't find your great grandfather, Thomas, but we will! But I did find a Bacom in New York! Sheley (male or female?) Bacom, 43 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11201, 718/852-4435. Sometimes, this material is years old, but we can hope! I'll let you make that call since your interest is New York. Please let me know what you find out. Feel free to e-mail directly at kbacom@aol.com. You've picked up on the Bacom quirkiness. They are not generally very social. Luckily, I take after my mom's Irish chatiness. I'm sure we are related, and I think it's great fun (like a good mystery novel) to find out how. By the way, there are two Bacome's (notice the "e" at the end) in Elvira, New York. There's probably some connection, but I'd rather concentrate on the ones with the correct spelling for the time being. If you want those names and addresses, let me know. Do keep in touch, and we'll figure this thing out.

If I don't hear from you before, have a very Merry Christmas!

Kathleen

Kentucky Bacoms

Hi, Orrin,

How nice to meet you. Well, it should come as no surprise that I had to look up Cleves, Ohio, to see where it is! My great-grandfather, John James Bacom, was born in Greenup County, Kentucky in 1827. I also looked up Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and it is in Campbell County which is only a couple of counties northwest of Greenup County. My great-grandfather was married (I now believe in Ohio) and had children. He was divorced from his first wife. He then moved to Illinois, served on the side of the Union during the Civil War, and remarried my great-grandmother. Given the fact that your mother was born in 1903, it is conceivable that she was the daughter of my great-grandfather's son from his first marriage. Of course, she could be descended from one of my great-grandfather's brothers or cousins, but there is no doubt that because of the rarity of the name and proximity of birthplaces, that we are related. If you would like to talk about this further, please contact me on my work e-mail which is bacomk@altheimer.com. I am on the computer all day long at work, and I rarely check AOL anymore, so, it's easier to reach me there. I hope you e-mail be back because I would love to explore this further with you.

My very best to you and your family.

Kathleen Bacom

The Bacoms

I have been able to identify about 60-65 Bacoms in the U.S. My father was James W. Bacom, born in NYC 1925. His father was james Aloysius Bacom. I don't know anyone earlier than that but would love to find out about some.

There are currently Bacoms in NY, FL, TX. CA, OR, NM, AZ and in the midwest.

I have a list if anyone wants it.

Bacom Ancestry

I am descended from a Richard Bacom and a
Minnie Frances Straugn. The only information
I have on him is that he was either half or
quarter Cherokee. So his father or grandfather
must have migrated to the Arkansas area and
married a Cherokee woman there. Do you have
any information on a southern branch of the
Bacoms???? - David Terry, Merlin OR. 97532

Our Bacoms are rare indeed.

Hello,

You are the first person I've heard from so far, even though I have only been at this for six months or so. And I must say, I am delighted to that there is still another Bacom left out there.

I only know about the few N.Y. Bacoms and the few that I know of, are all deceased. In my six month quest, I have begun to think that there is no more Bacoms left in N.Y. I know that mind are gone, to bad that half of my ancestor didn't marry, I think it has something to do with the Bacom "gene" :) How about your's? I have a feeling that we are somehow related, we have to be, with so few Bacoms.

Drop me a line, if you would like to, I would like to hear from another breathing Bacom. Till then, regards, pack:)
