Thanks I would appreciate your help. I should imagine he was waiting for a bed to come up at the Chelsea Hospital. Which may explain why he was still living with his youngest daughter at the old age of 78. Some Pensioners had to wait until their 80s before they were allowed into the hospital. It's unlikely a Workhouse would have taken him, because he had his Army Pension.
Being a Chelsea Pensioner did warrant certain rights and protections. That's why the Hospital was founded.
