I grew up hearing stories about my great-grandfather's family to be connected to Spanish royalty. After reading the post about the the brothers from Spain in the 1600s, I'm assuming there is truth to his story. My great-grandfather was Vincenzo Badali and he came from Sicily around 1916 to New York.

One of my wife’s GGrandmothers was Antonia Helena Lasita born 13 Mar 1868 in Termini Imerese (hereafter TI), Sicily and immigrated to Cincinnati OH and was married there in 1894. At least 4 of her brothers and sisters also immigrated to Cincinnati. Two of her 1st Cousins Vince and Joe Lasita also came to Cincinnati and 3 other Lasita 1st Cousins went to the Cleveland OH area. Antonia Helena Lasita’s Mother was Ignazia LaMantia born 28 Dec 1842 in TI to Agnostina LoMantia d.17Dec1859 TI and Antonia LoPresti (1824 – 14May1864 TI). Antonia Helena’s father was Mariano Pasquale LaSita b.5Nov1840 TI (referred to as Nicholas in US records). Both Ignazia and Mariano Pasquale were alive in 1908 in TI when some of the Cincinnati family returned to visit and a group photograph was made.
Most of Ignazia LaMantia’s brothers and sisters lived and died in TI. One of her Sisters Maria LaMantia married Giovani LaMantia 2Dec1865 in TI. One of Maria’s children was Giuseppe (Joseph) LaMantia b.12Jul1869 TI and Immigrated to Chicago in the 1890’s. One of his brothers Agostino Lamantia b.12Dec1873 had come to the US also and in 1900 was living in the same household in Chicago. Joseph Lamantia married Rosa Badali 15Apr1899 (their marriage is in TI records). The Children are listed in a similar Post on the Lamantia Board.
In the 1900 Census of Joseph Lamantia in Chicago Rose’s Father “James” Badali and 2 of her brothers “James” b.1888 and Joseph b.1883 are living in the household. James Sr is actually Vincent Badali b.26Jul1854 TI and married 21Jan1878 in TI to Ignazia Badali b.24Oct1854 TI. The birth Records for Rose, Giuseppe (Joseph) b.30Jan1884 and Vincent Jr (also James in the 1900 Census) are easily found in TI records. For members, all these records can be searched at www.termini-imerese.org. Presumably Vincent Sr and Jr also were Vincent Giacomo Badali and chose to use their other given name in the US. Giacomo is James in Italian. James Sr was shown as married in 1900 and wife Ignazia had not yet immigrated. She is not shown as listed in TI Death records which date to 1910. The “date of birth” and the “age” for James Sr are off each other by 10 years and the age is much closer to his actual birth. I have commented elsewhere that for folks from TI official TI records are generally quite accurate to actual dates and the US records for age such as Death Certificates almost never match the correct date. This has always puzzled me but seems to be true 99% of the time, especially the year of birth.
Joseph is almost certainly the Joseph Badali found in the 1930 Census with wife Vincenza and dau Elsie b.1915 and son Vincent b.1920. It is likely the Vincent Badali found at 221 Alexandria St, Chicago is the same Vincent, but requires work to confirm.
Other detail on these families as well as the Sources for the information can be found at www.rootsweb.com, World Connect Project Main Page and entering Database edclgenealogy2.
I have not researched the Badali line very extensively, but if anyone links to any of the info above, they might like to review other info at the RootsWeb site. Vincenzo Badali b.1854 TI was the son of Rosario Badali d.1854 TI and Rosa Badali (1825 – 1894 TI. Rosario Badali d.1854 was the son of Rosario Badali and Rosaria Mantia.
p.s.
It is the Marriage of Giuseppe/Joseph LaMantia and Rose Badali and listing of the birth/Baptism of their 1st 4 Children that occurred in Chicago and listed 1909 in TI records that proves those families are as stated (with the confusing use of James for 2 of the family in the 1900 Census).

Hello Anthony, Or should I say "Ciao, Antonino" I think we might be related! Giuseppi Badali, born in Termini Imerese, Italy (Sicili), is my 3rd great grandfather. He was born on 17 Oct. 1835. His father was Antonino Badali. His brother was Salvadore, and sister Antonina. Guiseppi married Michela Spicuzza 19 Dec. 1863, and their children were Antonino and Rosa. The names are close, but not quite the same as you have. But there is probably a tie-in one or 2 generations back. I have more, if you want to compare notes. I know and have met Madeline Gill, who responded to your post earlier. Best regards, Paul J.
Hello family members:
I believe that I'm the only holder of the orginal family coat-of-arms. We come from two brothers knighted in the 1600s.One of the brothers Onofrio Badali; was the local Baron and ruled from San Nicola just west of Termini, his brother was Francesco Badali. I have information tracing back to these two. I'm looking to connect the rest of the family and all the thousands of cousins too. Please contact me as soon as possible.

Badali family tree

Where are you located. The greatest portion of my tree is here in Canada. Where there is a large number of Badal's. A great many of the Badali's went to Chicago , Cleveland , Md., New York & Utica. Are you planning on putting your family tree on the Internet?
Do you belong to the Termini Imerese database?
<a href="http://www.TerminiList@mail.termini-imerese.org" target="_blank">www.TerminiList@mail.termini-imerese.org There is a data base under Badali.

Badali genealogy

Your message going back to the 1600's.
The story I heard from one of my cousins in Termini Imerese where basically the name started.
There were 2 brothers (Arab Prince) in Spain
there was a family argument and the one Prince left Spain and sailed to Sicily ending up in Termini Imerese. His name was Bakali, and since there is no K in the Italian alphabet it was changed to D. I have no documentation to prove this statement. and the ali at the end of Badali is Arabic.
Who knows. I am in the middle of composing a list of all the Badali names. In the Ellis Island Records (1892 - 1924 there are 8 Francesco Badali the oldest born about 1865.
I have just finished looking at the 3 reels of microfilms from the LDS looking for a relative born in 1824. Having difficulty reading the Baptisim certificate, due to the penmanship at that time. and some of the printouts I took are not to clear. I have contacted someone who taught Italian and hope to be able to get together with him to see if he can read who his parents were
I live in Canada and there is a large Termini Imerese colony here. My dad was born here in 1900. and his parents came in 1894 and 1899.

Canada to visit relatives by the name of Quattocchi. Beleive Bettina had a daughter or grandaughter here in Toronto but have been unable to find her. Also she had another daughter who went to live in Philadelphia, Pa. Did find a Rose Cutraru tel 412-937-9327 who might be related. Will keep on trying.
Madeleine

BADALI's from Sicily

To the best of my knowledge, nearly all of the Badali's originate from Termini Imerese in Sicily.
My wife's family is descended from Salvatore Badali (1824-1890), married Augostina Badali (1831-1884). They had 7 children. Most descendants emigrated to North America, primarily Toronto and Minneapolis. There is a Termini Imerese message board that has information on other Badali's. If you want more info on the Salvatore Badali family contact me at Maryhawk@enoreo.on.ca
