John R. Bader, Sr., son of Albert and Cora (Dawkins) Bader was born April 26, 1926 in Boone County, Nebraska. John entered the United States Navy on September 21, 1944. He received the Victory Medal and the American Area Asiatic Pacific Medal with 1 star. John served on the NRS in Kansas City, the NTC at Farragot, IN, the ABRB, USNB at Port Hueneme, CA CBMU618, and held the ranks of AS, S2C, S1C, and MM3C. John was honorably discharged on May 17, 1946.

On October 23, 1946, John was united in marriage to Gladys Rieck at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. To this union 5 children were born: Larry, Jim, John, Kevin and Roberta. John and Gladys lived in Albion all their married lives.

John worked numerous jobs. After retiring, he continued to work for Dan Morgan Plumbing and Dave’s Plumbing and Heating. John was a member of the Jaycees for many years and also volunteered on the Albion Fire Department. He was a member of the American Legion Post #162 of Albion. John enjoyed going to his cabin at Genoa, fishing and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

John died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at his home in Albion, Nebraska.

He is survived by his children: Larry and wife Brenda of Pierce, NE; Jim and wife Kelly of Albion, NE; John and wife Lori of Albion, NE; Roberta Westerman and Tim of Columbus, NE; Kevin and wife Kay of Columbus, NE; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Bonnie Williamson of Council Bluffs, IA; Dorothy Rieck of Albion, NE; brother Fred Bader of Norfolk, NE; brother-in-law Roy Williamson; several step-brothers and step-sisters, along with many relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gladys in 2002, granddaughter Kim in 1985, brother Kenneth and half-brother Albert.
