I saw your post from 2005 concerning a photo of Mary Beatrice Fields Hitch. She was my great, great-grandmother. She lived on Bayou Teche in LA during the Civil War; met and married Union Capt. Ebenezer Hitch from Mass. and had numerous children - but just 5 lived to be adults. My great-grandmother was one of the daughters, Beth. My grandmother, Beatrice Clark Wharton, used to speak of the Badgers, but I am not sure of the connection. Information on the family is found in Agnes DeMille's book, Where the Wings Grow. (Agnes and my grandmother were first cousins).

Ormus Harwood Badger was the son of my great aunt Margaret Badger and her first husband Albert Marion Smelser. Harwood and his brother John Harold Badger (Harold)used the name Badger when the parents were divorced (Harwood was very young at the time). Margaret's parents Reason Ebenezer Badger and Isabelle Watson Badger raised and, I believe, adopted the boys. I will gladly share what I have and would enjoy having contact with someone on the branch of the family.

Lemuel Badger's Daughters, NY

The Missouri Archives Judicial Records include a 65-item collection of probate records concerning Harmonia Badger, who died 6 April 1872 in St. Louis. The items include identification of those of her brothers and sisters who had children, Chester S. Badger, Lemuel W. Badger, Electa Badger Stockwell (pre-deceased), Mellona Badger Knox (pre-deceased), Ira Badger (pre-deceased), Luther Badger (pre-deceased), and Roena Badger Allen (pre-deceased). In 2000, Phyllis Stehm searched under this subject for the daughters of Lemuel Badger of Colesville, New York and noted that John Cogswell Badger referred to 4 sons and 7 daughters of Lemuel. The Missouri Archives probate record mentions no daughters other than the 3 sisters of Harmonia. The records are online in PDF files.

Perhaps your Charles Wallace Badger is the same three year old Charles W. Badger who appears in the 1850 census of East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana under Family Number 37 for Ann H. Carter, 62 years old and Mary D. (formal middle name of Dortch, surname of Carter) Badger, 26 years old and siblings of Francis, 7 years old and Anna, 5 years old. Mary Dortch Carter, 8 Apr 1840 in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana (Lost Marriages East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana Compiled and submitted by Claude B. Slaton, Baker, La. http://files.usgwarchives.org/la/eastfeliciana/vitals/marria... ).
My great grandmother was Mary Badger, Brandt Badger's sister. Brandt was actually b. in Ga. but in 1850 was residing in Hickman County, Tennessee. I have quite a few notes on Brandty I accumulated while trying find out something about his sister, Mary, but would have to dig through my notes. I also have the book you mention re: Brandt.

If you have informadtion on Mary or any other questions, please email me at: Bobdeb5630@sbcglobal.net rather than going through the Ancestry.com channnels where I would have to remember sometime and check the website.
Bob Myers, Tyler, Texas

Would you possibly have any info. on Mary Badger, Brandt's sister? I have searched for 40 years and have very little information on her. I know she was living in Hickman Co., Tn. in 1850 along with Bolling, Brandt, etc. and parents and I know she married my gr-grandfather William Scott Anderson (year?) and they were living in Memphis in 1870.
This is about all, don't know when she died, place of burial or much of anything.
Can you help?
Bob Myers

I am a little short of time right now but I could print the Badger part of my geneology for you and send it. I also mentioned a book published by a cousin called FOUR ANCESTRAL LINES AND DESCENDANTS OF ERASTUS BEETHOVEN AND FANNY BOBCOCK CAMPBELL BADGER compiled by Alice W. Badger in 1982. It includes photographs and a lot of detailed information. It was published by Peter E. Randall, 36 Mace Road, Hampton, New Hampshire and I know that there is a copy in the Library of Congress. If you cannot find it by any other source, I would be happy to loan it to you. Ann

I have a great deal of information about the Badger family, including a geneology published by one of the Badger family in the 1970's. You can view the information on my family tree "Holden" on Ancestry.

John from St Chad, Shrewsbury, not St Julian

I have a mystery to solve.

I have John Badger born about 1836 in Shrewsbury but do not know his parents. He turns up in the 1841 census with Joseph and Sarah, 65, in St Chad Shrewsbury. Joseph is a shoemaker. In the household is also Charles who is four years older than John. Joseph and Sarah could be grandparents but in the 1851, when it is only John living with them, John's relationship to them is not stated.
In 1852 Joseph and Sarah died.

In 1861 John is married to Helen (can not find the reference) and they have Emma, 4, born in Wolverhampton, staffordshire (no reference can be found). They are once again living in St Chad, Shrewsbury. John is working as a tinplate worker and gasfitter. (I have found that Charles was also working in this profession and his census entries were easy to find).

By 1871 they are living in Rhyl, Denbighshire and John is unemployed. They now have a son Arthur who was born in Wrexham, Denbighshire, aged 6 years.

Now there is the first uncertainty. It looks as though there are two more people living with them as there is Ann Williams 71, mother, born Flintshire and Ellinor, 17 daughter, born Flintshire (obviously not Ann's daughter due to the age difference). Could this be Helen's mother? Helen was born in Alberbury, Shropshire which is not that far away.

However the main problem that I have is that this is where the trail runs dry. I can not find any of them in the 1881 census. Did they all die or migrate?

Arthur is still in England as in the 1891 census he turns up in Crewe, Cheshire, married to Elizabeth, with a son Walter, 3, who was born in Crewe. Arthur is working as a house painter. He is still there in 1901 with more children and I know what happened to one of his children.

Any ideas about when John and Helen went?
This is not the same family that was in St Julian, Shropshire.

Regards
Sue
my gg-uncle was Brandt Badger and my gg-father was Bolin Badger and my g-father was Bonner Badger and my mother is Carolyn Badger Dean. My gg-mother was Emma Breeding BADGER from around La Grange,Tx. Bonner,Ralph,Basil, and Belle Badger were born in Gonzales,Tx, of course Brandt lived there and they later moved into Central Texas area. Brandt built a drug store in Burnet and was one of 2 men to establish Marble Falls. I have some info on the Badgers,a book on letters from Brandt to his wife during civil war.
