Gustave would be a great uncle of mine and settled in twelve corners operating a cheese factory at the turn of the century in outagamie county. He had 4 children who I don't have a lot of info of. Their mother Fredricka died of natural causes around 1895 and is buried in Kewaskum WI. Their father Ludwig died of natural causes in 1917 and is buried in Freedom WI. PLease email me at tjbayer@gmail.com if you have any further info or questions. Joan Bayer

Hi Joan:

I was thrilled to hear from you. I am Nancy Baehler Jones. Daughter of Erwin Baehler, the youngest child of Louisa Schuler Baehler and Samuel Baehler. Lynda was his sister and my aunt. You are right, Lynda was a lovely woman.

I would love to find my dad's family graves. Do you have any idea where they are? We have gone to the Seymour area and did locate the graves of one of Samuel's brother's family. But my dad's family was not there.

I do have pictures of the old cheese factory and general store owned my my dad's family in the Five Corners area. I would love to share them with you. Please contact me at my email address. mafalvey@cs.com I look forward to hearing from you.

Nancy Baehler Jones

Linda Baehler was my godmother and also was a very loving and kind soul. She is a first cousin to my father Clarence Schueler. My grandfather Charles Schueler and Louisa Baehler were brother and sister. I would love to know more about this family and possibly obtain some photos of them. I live near 5 corners and am very familiar with the old cheese factory that Louisa lived in. Joan

Do you have any further infomation about Lousia schuler? or the schuler family? I have a Gustave Schuler living with Ludwig and Fredrecka and Carl Schuler in Hubbard, Dodge County WI. (US Fed Census 1880). The family bible states that Gustave was born in Hubbard, Dodge county wisconson 1882. Family stories say that possibly he (Gustave) went to an orpahage or left home at an early age. And possibly something about a fatal accident involving one the parents. I noted the New york passenger list shows a Ludwig Schuler, Fredericka, Lousia, william and Carl traveling from Hamburg to New York Arriving 16 nov 1872. Everyones' birth date corresponds between the census and the passanger manifest. Also the 1905 Wisconson state Census list Ludwig Schueler living with a Samuel Bachler and Laura (Louisa) Bachler
Ludwig Schueler is listed as father to head of house. I assuming that would be Louisa.

Hi Cousin Alex,
I will try to help you get started. But first, I need your information to feed my computer database to search for your family. If you will send me your full name, place and date of birth, and your fater and mothers full names, I will get started. If you know your father and mother;s dates and places of birth, it will find more data.
The chances of us actually being related are slim since your branch was one of those who dropped the "umlaut" from over the "a" , which was a common practice for those from Germany, while mine changed it to the "ae" spelling as was the common practice for those from Switzerland.

I will certainly try to help. The earliest known usage of the name that I have found occured in a rural area of Bern Canton in Switzerland. The spelling, (with the umlaut over the "a") is german and I have read that it originally indicated a "Beller" , that is " the one who rings the bells at the churches".
Most of the earlier people with this name were from the villiage of Wattenwil, but they spread out from there to many small villiages in the area, such as Eggiwil, Bucholterberg, Thun, and others in the Ementhal valley.
Later, some emmigrated to the United States and Canada, and one very famous one, Charles Baehler, emmigrated to Egypt, where he designed and built many beautiful buildings still standing in Chiro.
Many who emmigrated to English speaking countries changed the spelling to the english spelling Baehler , and some just dropped the umlaut and became just Bahler. A rare few converted the name all the way back to the original Beller spelling.
I hope this has been of some use to you, but I do not have the verification to prove this history, only the accumulation of legends and rumors furnished to me by family historians from their old "family tales".
If you would be interested in further pursuing this, I have over 10, 000 names in my Baeler/Bähler data base that trace back to the 1400's. Please correspond to me directly by e-mail at Geba@ix.netcom,com

Bähler, and I wonder if you can help me with 1) The meaning, if any, of the word (dictionaries are of no help in this case, as far as I know); 2) The origin and/or distribution of this surname. Thanks, Professor Alan A. Rush, University of Tucumán, Argentina.

I have heard a lot about Charles, and ther are, in fact, a couple of websites with information about him.
www.egy.com/landmarks/99-10-28.shtml has a load of info on his involvement in the Ciaro, Egypt and Israel buildings and hotels.
Other sites are:
www.touregypt.net
www.egyptmonth.com
www.chairotimes.com/content/archiv03/baehler.html

My records show he was born in Thun, Switzerland, and was possibibly the son of a Charles Bähler abt. 1842- abt. 1912, born in Oberdissbach (Buchholternerg) Switzerland.
This Charles' parents were possibly Christian Eugen Bähler (1813-1875) (Bucholterberg to New Orleans, La) and Henrette Julie Staüffer (1815-est. 1842)(Eggiwil, SW to Bucholterberg,SW).
Christian was the son of Nicklaus Bähler (est. 1791-est. 1861) in Buchholterberg)

Charles Albert Baehler had at least 2 sons by his second wife Gentiärd Floöd(?): Charles Gaston (est. 1921) also known as Gaston Baehler, probably still residing in Egypt, and Raoal (est. 1923), also known as Rene, and possibly still in Egypt.

Hi Gerald:

It's the right family all right. And the name was Samuel not Adolph. I was wrong. I have obtained most of my information off a GedCom on the Ancestry.com site. Perhaps it is your posting I copied.?? Anyway, I can give you some information about my father, Erwin, and his siblings. The only siblings I remember are: Lynda, Albert, Ellen, Esther, Selma, (died as a child of 12 or 13) and my father, Erwin. Erwin married Mildred McHone, and I am their only child. Please email me if I can answer any other questions.
I never knew my grandfather, Samuel, but Louisa , my grandma, was a wonderful woman. A sweet and gentle soul. They had a store and cheese factory in Five Corners, WI in the early 1900s. I believe they lived in Seynour WI, also. I have some knowledge of Albert and Lynda, too. There are a lot of old pictures that I would be willing to copy for you if you are interested. Please let me know. Nancy

BOEHLERs/BAEHLERs (?) in Wisconsin

This may be a long shot, but I'm researching
BOEHLERs/BOHLERs from Wisconsin. As you know,
unfamiliar surnames end up being spelled,
misspelled and changed many ways over the
years.

My g-g-grandfather was Johann "John" BOEHLER.
He was born 1835, Rhinehessen, Hesse-
Darmstadt, Ger. Died 1925, Clark Co., WI.
Immig. to U.S. abt. 1852. Homesteaded
in Chippewa Co., WI in 1874.

Father: Henricus "Henry" BOEHLER/BOHLER.
Mother: Anna Maria -- (poss. JUNG.)
Wife: Theresia RANECKER.

Let me know if any of this sounds promising.
If not, I wish you the best of luck on your
exciting research goal!

Boy, did you hit the jackpot!
your grandmother Lilly Baehler
is one of the longest lines in my
database -going all the way back to
Rudolf Baehler who was born in 1536!
Was your grandfather Donald, Robert,
Harold, or Richard ?
They are the bottom of my database, so
I need information on all the siblings and
their descendants.
Let's get together and trade info.
It will be easier if we contac directly, so
you can answer directly to my E-mail address.
Geba@ix.netcom.com.

Nancy, I think I hve your family in my
database, but it has less information
than most of my other lines of Baehlers.
The family I have is: Samuel Baehler, b. 1860
in Uebischi, Switserland, m. Louisa Schuler
from Germany on Dec, @, 1886 in Hubbard,
Dodge co., WI.
Their Children, all born in Dodge County,
WI are as follows:
Albert C. Baehler b. 28-OCT-1887
Loving Baehler b. abt 1898
Linda Augusta Elisabeth Baehler b.20-MAY-1891
Alma Louisa Johanna Baehler b. 19-AUG-1892
Carl Baehler b. about 1893
Christian Baehler b. About 1894
Esther Anna Johanna Baehler b. 18-MAR-1895, d. Feb 1977
Ella Baehler b. about 1896
Rosina Baehler b. about 1897
Erwin William Rudolph Baehler b. about 1899

As you can see, many of the names match.
Is it possible that Adolf was a nickname
or a middle name of Samuel? I don't have any
other families where so many names match. and
Erwin is the only Erwin Baehler in the entire
database.
I have no information on their descendants
and only have spouses for Albert and Erwin.
I do, however have an ancestor list on Samual
back to his grand father and have some down
lines for his brothers Peter, Gottfried,
Rudolph, and Jakob.
Samuel did have a first cousin named Adolf.
but, his childrens names are not similar to
your list.

Nancy, although I have not found the common
ancestor between us yet, I officilly welcome
you as "cousin Nancy". Please answer by
dirrect E=mail to:

Geba@ix.netcom.com

I have a couple of questions for starters:
I have Lynda's name spelled as "Linda".
Which is correct?
I do not have an Ellen on the list of
siblings, but I do have ab "Ella". could that
have been a nickname?
I do not have a Selma on the list, but do
show 2 other sisters, Rosina and Alma, and 3
brothers in addition to Albert and Erwin:
Loving, Carl, and Christian.
"Loving" was such an unusual name that I
presumed he was a male, based on old letters.
I will investigate further and give more data
later.

Yes, I would most definitly want to see the
pictures. Can you scan them and send by
e-mail?

Please correspond by direct E-mail so I may
save your messages in my files.

They were my great-grandparents, and I have
a complete line of all of their descendants,
and their ancestors back to the 1500's in
Switzerland.
If you are related, I can furnish this
information in it's entirety. If you are not
related, I can furnish you with information
on all the non-living persons.
Are you a direct descendant? If so, HOWDY
COUSIN!
I know or knew most of the children and
grandchildren of Ezra, and we used to visit
them in Kansas when I was younger.

True, some names do have a wide variation in spellings, but the Baehler and Bahler names are a first derivative of the Swiss-German name of Bähler (with an umlaut over the "a").

There are few, if any other spellings from the same surname. The german ä translates to "ae" in english, and some emmigrants used that spelling , while others simply dropped the umlaut and used "a".
The same thing happened with your ancestors, whose original spelling was Böhler, (with the umlaut over the "o". Some used "oe" and some just used "o".
However, The Böhler family was primarily from the Baden area of Germany, and the Bähler family was from the Bern area of Switzerland. There was probably no relation between them despite the similarity of the names.
I do not have any Böhlers in my database.

Good luck to you in your search!
