Bernhard Baer (1872–1937) and Family

Bernhard Baer (1872–1937) married Annie Levy (1868–1944) and had eight children: Mitchell, Philip (d. 1962), Jacob (1889–1954), Sadie (1891–1981), Stella (1895–1967), Mabel (1897–1979), Fay (1901–1976), and Louis (1902–1937).

I'm looking for anyone who is familiar with this tree, and who could possibly provide antecedents for Bernhard or Annie.

I've noticed that there is a Goldberg family tree on here that seems to match some of these details, and speculation within my family places this tree as belonging to a daughter of Valeria, daughter of Evelyn, daughter of Mabel.

If this rings any bells with you, kindly reply.

I have already communicated with the original poster (bonita), but just wanted to add that Martha Baer was my great-grandmother. She married Carl Widmer (a Swiss immigrant) and my grandfather was their eldest child - Edwin Widmer. Ed had several siblings - Hank, Lloyd, Lucille, Magdalene, Annie, and Dorie. I don't think I forgot anyone.

To All People with the Surname of Kindig or who have a Kindig in their ancestry:

Your current surname, maiden name, or adoptive name may be Kindig. You may have a Kindig ancestry. You may be anywhere in the USA or the world.

You, could be a shirttail relative, a kissing cousin, share even a closer relationship or be no connection what so ever to my family tree.

I am trying to trace my genealogy. I have hit some blank walls. This is primarily due to name changes, incorrect dates, and geographic location and duplicity problems

In any event, I would like to try to clarify and verify as much family information as I can. Who knows what will develop in this family tree.

My name is Alan Samuel Kindig. I was born March 9, 1933 in Bethlehem Township (Butztown) PA. My father was Earl Morris Kindig born 1904 died 1996). My mother was Rose (Roselia) Tackas born 1910 died 1976. I have the following siblings:
Sylvia Agnes Kindig Groeger
Ronald Eugene Kindig 1934 1935
Sandra Paulette Kindig Pinkerton
Bruce Glenn Kindig
Bernardine Kindig Stevens

My Dads father was Weston Samuel Kindig. His mother was Tillie Benkhardt (Bankhardt). Beside Dad there was a daughter Pauline who died in infancy. Tillie and Weston divorced. She remarried to John P. Smith. (no children from this union) Weston remarried to Ruth (Ruby) Schaffer (Zigenfuss or Ziegenfus). Ruth brought a daughter Virginia Ziegnfus to the union.

Ruth and Weston had the following children:
Hilda Married Calvin Bartholomew
Isabell Married Albert Wessner
Emma Married Louis Mira
Alice Married Paul Gibson
Daniel Married Mary
Barbara Married Coit
Weston S Jr. had two wives who died
Earl Morris Weston’s son from first marriage.
Virginia Zigenfus Zigenfoos Kindig was Ruth’s daughter from her first
marriage. Virginia married a Jackson.
Daniel, Weston Jr., and Emma (Mira) still live. Barbara went to CA married a Coit and has totally dropped off the radar. The last anyone knows she did have a son.

Weston S. Sr. had a brother Morris. Morris was married to Emma. They had a son Billie and a daughter Mabel. No other information is currently available.

Tillie Benkhardt’s mother was Paulina Stoll Benkhardt. We have no information on father Frank Benkhardt other than he was in Allentown PA. Tillie’s sisters were Ida, Carrie, Gertrude, and Flora. I only knew Carrie and Gertrude. Flora and Ida were probably deceased by the time I came along

Daniel B. Kindig and Lena Kraus were the parents of Weston and Morris.

Daniel Kindig and Susanna Hively were the parents of Daniel B Kindig. It seems Daniel was taken by his family from PA to Milton Wayne OH. The children from this marriage beside Daniel B. were Christiana Shellabarger, John S. Kindig, William Henry Kindig, and Catherine Kindig. Christiana returned to PA in her later life.

Daniels father and mother were Daniel Kindig and Susanna Hively. This generation shows a transfer of residence from PA to Wayne OH. Children for this union are Lucy Ann, David, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Lydia, Susanna, and William Francis Kindig.

Daniel Kindig’s parents were Henry Kindig and Elizabeth Eshelman. It appears Daniel was the only child attributed to Henry and Elizabeth. This is as far back as the Kindig surname line goes. It takes it back to 1755. This is pre revolutionary war and Henry would have been in his twenties when the revolution occurred. We do not know if he was a revolutionary war solider or not. It seems he may have been a Mennonite. We are researching more on him through the Lancaster County Historical Society in PA.

On the Kindig grandmother side we have records going back to 1712. Because of the numerous listings I will just list the names that are in this tree and appear to be directly connected.
Leana Krauss
Susanna Hively George Hively
Elizabeth Eshelman Benedict Eshelman, Peter Eshelman
Susanna Weigel, Johan Leonard Weigel, Valentin Weigel, Johan Martin Weigel
Rosina Billmeyer, Jacob Billmeyer changed name from Johann Balmer (father of Jacob)
Christina Mayer
Helena Holtzender
Maria Funcher, Georg Funcher
Ann Dorothy Triddell Nicholas Triddell
Magdalena
Anna Stehman, Joseph Steinman note name change father to daughter
Frena
Frederick Stoll, Fredricka Stoll, Carolina Stoll
Dobelman
Barbara Herman
Fredricka Weiss, Fredian Weiss, John Wass
E Kienzle

If you come across Brian Kindig in CA, he is my nephew. He is my brother Bruce’s
son. He is also actively researching this ancestry.
I will greatly appreciate any thing you can add to enhance this ancestry. I am especially curious as to how Henry got to Lancaster County and what his roots are.

The following surnames are being shown in my list of kinship.
Alkirie
Bachman
Dietrich
Hemerman
Mosteller
The frequency and long listings of these names seem unrelated. However, if you can add any knowledge about these names and how they might relate to the Kindig list, please feel free to add your findings.

Thank you ever so much for your contributions.

Alan S. Kindig
alanandsharon@suddenlink.net
1303 Hemlock Drive
Greenville NC 27858
252 355 1859
Here is some info. for you. I think you have your dates mixed up.How could Han's get married in 1509, when he was born in 1545.

Brief History of the Bär Family From Canton Zurich, Switzerland to Lancaster County, PA
Excerpts from Jane Evans Best, The Baer Saga

Hans Bär (I) was an Anabaptist who died before 1614 at Albis in the parish of Hausen about nine miles southwest of the city of Zurich, Switzerland (Maps). The youngest of his ten children, Hans Jakob Bär (1591), died childless in 1668. His heirs were the children of his deceased brothers and sisters, and they provide for us, together with parish records, a roster of the children and grandchildren of Hans Bär (I) of Albis. Granddaughter Anna married Martin Meyli, who in 1658 wrote an account of the persecution of the Anabaptists which was included in the Martyrs’ Mirror. Three of his grandsons Hans Jakob Bär (1595), Osli Bär, and Hans Bär (III) can be linked to most of the early Bear immigrants to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, from 1717 to 1732 as well as to the Bärentag families now headed by Friedrich H. Baer of Nürnberg, West Germany.

When Cathrina Huber was buried at Hausen on April 22, 1622, the pastor called her in the church books deceased Hans Bär’s (I) widow of the Bruder Albis. This place name was used for the three Hofs (farms) called Unter Albis, Mittel Albis, and Ober Albis – each a cluster of several farmhouses then and now located along the road to the top of the mountain above Hausen called Ratlisberg. Two other Bärs were mentioned in the early Hausen records. Heinrich Bär was the father of Oswald, baptized July 19, 1578; of Mary, baptized February 10, 1581; and of Frantz, baptized February 14, 1582. Felix Bär was the father of Anna, baptized June 26, 1582; Jacob, baptized November 15, 1587; and Elsbeth, baptized July 27, 1589. Were Hans (I), Heinrich, and Felix the original brothers of Albis? Where did Heinrich and Felix go when they left Albis after 1589?”

Here is what I have on the Bär Family that can be proven.
I have all the "Bear Saga" magazines.Have never found anybody born before Han's in 1545.I have Baer's back to the 1720's.
My e-mail is
mjrose@uneedspeed.net

"Bear Saga" by Jane Evens Best in the Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage Magazines, dated July1998, October, 1998 and January 1999.

Brief History of the Bär Family From Canton Zurich, Switzerland to Lancaster County, PA
Excerpts from Jane Evans Best

Hans Bär (I) was an Anabaptist who died before 1614 at Albis in the parish of Hausen about nine miles southwest of the city of Zurich, Switzerland (Maps). Where did Heinrich and Felix go when they left Albis after 1589?”

The history of the Bär family in Albis is intimately tied up with the Anabaptist movement of the early 17th Century in Canton Zurich. The Anabaptists were one of many groups which arose during the Reformation in Central Europe and gave rise to modern groups including the Mennonites and Amish. Their beliefs included the rejection of infant baptism, pacifism, and conservative dress. Persecution of the Anabaptists by the majority Protestants of the Zurich area led to several members of the family being imprisoned during the 1630s and 40s for their beliefs.

Lorenz Bär was thirty-seven years old in 1617, when he died before the birth of his fourth child. His wife died before 1634, and their children were reared by Hans Jakob Bär (1591) [Lorenz’s brother]. On November 13, 1649, Oswald Bär sold his dairy farm on Ober Albis to his uncle, Hans Jakob Bär (1591) (who lived in the lower house) and his cousins [the sons of Lorenz], Hans Bär (III) and Hans Jagli Bär (who lived in the upper house). The total price of two thousand florins was to be paid in installments on St. Martin’s Day (November 11) until 1662. It was the first of many complicated land transactions between Bear brothers and cousins that have delighted and frustrated family historians ever since.”

This was the time of a tax revolt in the area, and in 1646 the Zurich government advanced by force of arms and occupied Wäldenswil, the town north of Richterswil on Lake Zurich. In February 1647 the Anabaptists left the Zurich area in the direction of the Rhine River (Map of the Kraichgau). This was near the end of the 30 Years' War (1618-1648) which had left much of Germany depopulated. A map of deaths due to war and desease has been created. Pfalz, in particular, had suffered population losses exceeding 50%. Because Oswald Bär sold his farm in Albis in 1649 and his family is not on the 1650 census of Richterswil, they probably joined the older children.”

Felix Bär [the son of Hans Bär (III)], baptized on April 23, 1654, left Ober Albis by 1678. He is recorded in Dammhof near Eppingen in 1682, and in 1686 he moved to Ittlingen, where he was a Hofbauer (estate farmer with 95 morgens of land) (Map). He and his sister Elisabeth died in 1689 – he in early July in ‘Itingen’ and Elisabeth ‘in der Curfurstl. Pfalz.’ This was the year of the invasion of the Kraichgau by the armies of King Louis XIV of France. … The prodigious work of Annette Burgert showed that immigrant Ulrich Bär was the son of this Felix.”

Johann Ulrich Bär arrived [in America] on September 30, 1732, and warranted a 113-acre tract called Springfield near Henry Steigle/Stiegel and Ulrich Statchley/Steadey in a part of Warwick Township that is now Clay Township [Lancaster Co.]. He died intestate in 1749. The Orphans’ Court on December 2, 1767, allotted the tract to his oldest son, Adam Bear. Frederick Stoner took the land to satisfy a debt of Adam Bear and on August 6, 1773, conveyed the land to Martin Bear [Adam’s youngest brother]. The settlement of the estate of Anna Elizabeth Bär [sister of Adam], childless widow of Samuel Wolf, provided records, including some from the Ittlingen church book, which show without any doubt that all of these people are from the same family. By 1771 Maria Agatha Bär [elder sister of Adam], who was married before 1750 to Johann Conradt Gysi/Geesey, lived in York County.”

References:
Best, Jane Evans, A Bear Hunt in Europe.
I had a first cousin twice removed named Albert Baer; he was the brother of Bessie Baer Colton and Robert Baer. Their parents were Samuel Baer and Ida Sachs...I am looking to see if anyone has this family in their lineage.

Samuel was my great grandfather's brother. When they were in Europe, their parents sent them to two different families to keep them from going in to the Russian Army.

My maternal grandfather, Alert Baer, came to the U.S. in Sept. 1907 from Switzerland. His last name was spelled Bar with two dots or accent marks (not sure what they are properly called) over the "a"...it was changed when he got here. He immigrated into the port of Seattle.
His father was Albert Bar (born May 1857; died March 1937) and lived in Switzerland. His mother was named Anna Bader Bar (born May 1861, died Sept 1927, in Switzerland). I have nothing beyond that.
If you have anything I would be thankful.
Barbara Swan

My grandfather, Albert Baer (Bar before coming to the US). His family lived in Switzerland. His father's name was also Albert and his mother Anna (as far as I know). I think his father and his birth mother divorced and then my grandfather left Switzerland to come to America.
So there are a few gaps in my records.
Thanks for your response.
Barbara

I just found information on the Famly Search website that shows my Benjamin Bare who I have been trying to trace for several years is a desendant of Hans Bar born in 1545, died in 1617, married Kathrina Huber on February 11, 1509 or 1510 and he was from Switzerland. It looks like we may be of the same family way back. Let me know what you think. Barb
