i have been reading some comments. from what i know my grandfather was a baez. his history came from spain into mexico. and so far i read that there are baez's from puerto rico. thats interesting.i would like to know more. thank u.

They are from Puerto Rico. However, after further research I discovered that the name is not Baez, but Perez. Sorry:-)

Hello to all the Baez out there!!
History of the name:
The Baez last name comes from "Town called Baeza,in Spain" There where 3 brothers that sail in one of Christopher Columbus ships (first sail) 2 of the brothers disembarked in Puerto Rico, 1 in the town of "Villalba" the other one in the town of "Caguas".The 3rd one went on to the Dominican Republic, in other words, we are related. They started to mix with Taino indian women. And the name started to disseminate. There was called Geronimo Baez (the named was changed to Baez from Baeza, the town they come from) he owned lots of acres of land in the town of Villalba. He had an affair with a mulato women. He was killed by a slave and the slave was the first person to die in Puerto Rico by hanging. There is a book about the Death Penalty in Puerto Rico which gives a pretty impressive summary of our family.
Though, my father 1 of 13 kids born to Erasmo Baez and Eulalia Rodriguez from Barrio El Guineo in Villalba, Puerto Rico. The siblings names (hope I got them all were: Jenaro, Erasmo, Alejandro, Paconio, Eustaquio, Tino, Susana, Mina, and these are all I can remember. Hope to connect with family!!

My mother is from Cuba and her paternal grandfather Jose Rufino Baez came from the Canary Islands Lanzarote, Spain. Hopefully this helps you.

My name is Gabriel Gonzalez. My mother and her grandparents were from Cuba, but her great grandparent Jose Rufino Baez was from Lanzarote, Spain and came to the new world with two brothers, one to Havana, and one went to Santo Domingo. Hopefully this gives you some useful information.

Baez was derived from the German word Buoze which means "fine" - an occupation of fine collector. First found in Austria.

In my family tree of Baez-Benavides - I found a Gonzalo Baez de Benavides in Tenerife, Canary Islands. This was one of my grandfathers (Around 1540) - His son Francisco Baez Benavides entered New Spain around 1620. There is tons of data on this family tree.

Hello as you can see we share the same last Baez I had a uncle named Andres Baez who died some time in 1960's who lived Utuado, PR his brother my dad name is Juan Baez who also died sometime 1970 in carolina PR but is buried Utuado PR I'am trying to find some thing more about my family when my dad past away I was about 2-3 years old so as you can see I don't know much else if this rings a bell please email back thank you.

It is described on page 48 as "En campo de sinople una torre de oro, redonda." Sourced as "Reportorio de Blasones de la Communidad Hispanica", de Vicente de Cadenas.

You are right about origin of Baez name. There were many Jews in that town, as well, during the Middle Ages, and many were persecuted. To take you back a ways about the origin of the name, "Baetium" or "Baetica" was the Roman name for the southern government district of the Iberian peninsula during the Roman occupation of what became Spain. It is roughly what Andalucia is today, so "Baetium" is actually the Roman name for Andalucia.

My grandmother told me she married into the BAEZ' by way of dowery. My Taino ancestors accepted a dowery from a blue-eyed blond-haired Spaniard farmer who was well to do at the time. That's how we came into the BAEZ family tree.

My father was Pastor Baez, but he was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My family no longer lives there but my late grandmother(Theresa Baez) and my late uncle (Javier Baez) lived there in the 80's.
