I think that Guy Bagot married Ann Polle in Alvechurch in 1549. I believe that Guy's father was William Bagot, who died in Alvechurch in 1568. William was married to Agnes, who died in Alvechurch in 1557.
I am descended from William's (son?), Richard Bagot (b.c. 1528), who died in 1588 (Alvechurch).
The Bagot's moved to Tanworth in Solihull, before spreading to Bromsgrove and Old Swinford (Worcestershire).
William Bagot heads the family tree at the moment, and I agree that he was probably descended from a junior branch of the Blithfield Bagots. It is just possible that he was an illigitimate son of Sir Lewis Bagot - but this is purely speculative, and remains unproven.

I cant find any definitive proof either. The area he lived in is interesting, Preston Bagot and Morton Bagot are near by and suggest a connection with the Blithfield Bagots. Land in the area was owned by their relatives and Robert of Stafford. I think if there is a link he is not the son of Sir lewis but from a branch further back. Bagot relatives which branched off earlier in the family tree owned land at Kinver, the others at Pipe Hayes. I think however the records that could link him do not exist.

I too am descended from the Baggotts of Darlaston and Alvechurch, and can go back Gvye Baggott b 1525 son of William Baggott and Anne Polle. They were married 1549 in Alvechurch.
Gvye's father William was born in Alvechurch in 1500, also Anne Polle.
I cannot make the connection with William to Sir Lewis Baggott, have you any further leads please

About Parker Baggott and Nancy Doty: I believe they divorced because she later married a Jacob Cline (25Apr1804) in Rowan County, NC. They had a large family and farmed in the area for a number of years.

In the immigration records, no Baggott is listed until 1750 when one John Baggott appears as being "transportated" to America (Maryland). The sentence was pronounced in the London district and he came on the ship Litchfield with 130 other prisoners. They were sold to tobacco planters to work off the cost of their purchase--anywhere from 10 pounds to 25 pounds depending on the skill level. Then in 1768, a John Baggott is listed as living as a free man in Charles County, Maryland, site of a very large tobacco plantation.
No records exist for Baggotts in Halifax, NC. In fact the only mention I have been able to find of a Baggott is the marriage to Nancy Doty. There is no Staer River anywhere in America but there is a Tare River in NC which is noted as S Tare River or N Tare River. So the search continues. I have access to one of the best genealogical libraries in the US. I also plan a trip to DC to the National Archives in September. Who knows what I'll find?
Judy

Barbara, thanks for your prompt reply. My husband and I have seen both the original hand-written and typed manuscripts of James A. Williams' History of Orangeburg. In fact, I have a copy of the typed manuscript and of one page of hand-written text. So I have that information but have not been able to verify any of the information about John D and Lydia Williams or her brother or the information about Parker Baggott and Lydia Lavenia Williams. I keep hoping I will find someone with more info and the supporting records. Although some of the information in James A.'s book can be verified, other material cannot. And in my own family, oral history has tended to be not so accurate--an ancestor with a sword was not a member of Napoleon's army in France despite the firm family belief that he was.

Thanks again.
Judy Williams

Re: information about parker baggott

Are you familiar with the "History of Orangeburg" that James Allen Williams was writing at the time of his death? Hugo Ackerman of the Orangeburg Archives had it at one point, he typed it up from the handwritten notes James A. Williams wrote. I heard my uncle Bubsy Cantwell donated it to the State Library in Columbia, but when my aunt searched for it there, they couldn't find it.

Anyway, this is what James Allen wrote about John D. Williams:

"John D. Williams lived on Goodland Swamp and was a farmer. For a member of years he clerked for Beach and Ehney and later for Charles Bull and Company. And afterwards (he) was elected Sheriff of Orangeburg. He was admired by everyone for his sterling qualities, honesty of thought and action. He was a kind father, good husband and devoted Christian. He was a pioneer of the Baptist Church in Orangeburg. He married a Ms. Lydia Baggott. His ancestors were from Wales. He raised large family. His sons were J. A., W. E., and J. W. Williams. His daughters were Martha, Mary Carolyn, Elizabeth, Nancy and Mildred. He was the son of Abraham Williams who resided on Goodland Swamp. John D. Williams had five brothers who were Howell, Edward, Holloway, Richard and William Williams."

My aunt told me the Williams donated the land the First Baptist Church in Orangeburg is on. John D. is buried in North.

Helen Williams of Orangeburg said he was buried in the Bull Swamp Baptist Church yard, and Miriam Smith confirmed on 9/5/2000 by sending the dates from the tombstone at that cemetery. According to the 1850 census, John D. was born in North Carolina. His wife Lydia and all their children were born in South Carolina, most likely Orangeburg for the kids.

This is what James Allen Williams wrote about Parker Baggott:
"Elisha Baggot was the son of Parker Baggot and lived on the Edisto River. He was learned (and) raised a large family. One of his sons was a preacher; the other one a doctor. His ancestors were from Wales. One of his sons, James Baggot, was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Secessionville. The Baggots came from Wales in 1766 and settled in Halifax on the Staer River in North Carolina. They later came to Columbia SC. Their political influence was strong. They were great friends of Gov. P...pe (?). Parker Baggot married Ms. Lavinia Williams of Columbia.

There was quite a romance to the marriage as they were cousins, and it ended (when) her own brother performed the marriage ceremony. He was Joseph Williams. Jonathan Williams and Charlie Williams built the first boat that ran down the Congaree to Charleston. On one of the trips down the river Jonathan Williams took sick and died.

John Baggot lived on Bull Swamp and was a brave soldier in the Seminole War in 1836. There was a incidence of this war that caused John Baggot to have a pair of bridal reins made from the skin of an Indian’s back and was quite a curiosity."

North Carolina has a marriage listing for Parker Baggett to Nancy Doty in 1797. I estimate he married Lydia's mother around 1800, so I suspect Nancy died.

There is a small group in SC trying to find out more about Parker and we exchange info from time to time. I'll see if there is anything else listed that might give you more information.

Best,
Barbara
My husband's father was Edward B. Williams, his grandfather was Edward B. Williams and his great-grandfather was James A. Williams. My husband is the third Edward B. Williams in the line. I am interested in any information about Parker and Lydia Baggott, parents of Lydia Baggott, wife of John D. Williams. I am also interested in any information about John D. William's parents, county of birth in NC, etc. I have tried to research the Baggott line by starting with immigration/ship lists and found only one Baggott--John who was "transported" from the London area in 1750 to Maryland. He was probably sold to a tobacco plantation in that area. A John Baggott was living as a free man in 1768 in Maryland in Charles County. But other than that I have drawn lots of blanks in trying to trace the line. Any help would be appreciated.

I have very little info on the Baggotts, though have been in contact with others in SC researching that family.
I am not related to the BAGGOTT families, but just got lucky on eBay getting a photo of one of my own ancestors. I was poking through the seller's inventory and he has two nineteenth-century BAGGOTT photos: James (Jimmy), a young man -- teen? -- photographed in Blue Island, Illinois -- and he says he has a photo of Joseph Baggott, presumably related.

Also this week on eBay, two different sellers have two different antique photos of a man named King Baggott.

I have no Baggott relatives, I have no relationship to eBay or any of the sellers, I just got lucky today with my own eBay search for photos of my own relatives and wanted to spread the luck around. Hope this note helps someone.

Thanks Barbara I do not know if you are one that i've taken information off but there are other anomilies

Robert Bigod 1015-1065
Roger Bigod 1060-1107

Both Dukes/Earls of Nofolk - this line is reported to have ended

Hervey Bagod who married Millicent de Stafford took the name de Stafford to secure the inheritance for his son Hervey de stafford. therefore this ended this Bagod line and if Roger Bigod was Hervey Bigods father then the line would not of ended - he would have become something of stafford and sheriff of norfolk

Nice this geneology milarky isn't it

Hi all

Like some on here I have used the hints and gone back to Toustien le Goz who married Judith de Montanolier c1014. Judith de Montanolier is supposed to be the daughter of Richard I of normandy BUT! having reached this point I decided to now work backwards to prove the connections - guess what?.... no connection in any published research I have looked at. In fact NO! parents for judith are given anywhere.

There is a mention of perhapse she may have been his niece but all the research suggests Richard was the only child of William 1 (longsword) of Normandy.

So can someone point me to the proof!

I have traced my baggott line back to John Baggot and Ann ???? Old Swinford. I think John is the son of Edward Baggot and Hannah (poss Hand) and was christened 24th Feb 1765 (IGI). Here is the line:

Annie (nancy) Baggott c1873 Tipton staffordshire
Edward Henry Baggott 1848 Broseley Shropshire
Edward Baggot christened 6 nov 1803 (IGI) Old Swinford Staffordshire/Worecestershire
John Baggot christened 24 feb 1765 (IGI) Old Swinford Staffordshire/Worcestershire
Edward Baggot ? Poss Walsall Staffordshire

Most of the trees on here seem to be confussed around this time and my guess is that they have either mixed families or they have got brothers as fathers and therefore they are having children before they are even teenagers

any help guys

Kel
OK this is getting confussing: I really do need some help!

Edward Baggott c1950 Dawley Green Shropshire - I think this is a typo error? on the census it is deffinatly Staffordshire? Now from person knowledge of the location i.e. Darlaston/Tipton There is a Darlaston Green?

When I checked for Dawley Green, Shropshire, there is no such place (may have been?) My mind says there may have been a Dawley as a suberb of Telford or Shrewsbury?

Edward in the census's is iether Edward A or Edward Henry. There is a Henry Baggott St Lawrence Darlaston, The green may well come under St Lawrence. However I cannot find a Birth for iether Nancy or Annie?

Please Help

Kel

Hi all

My great grandmother's name is Annie Baggott c1872 Tipton Staffordshire. She married my great grandfather Thomas Harris (1871) at St Marks Church, Ockerhill, Tipton, Staffordshire in 1892. She is living in Tipton in the 1901 and 1911 census's, in which she gives her birth place as Tipton, Staffs. I cannot find her in any other census nor in the west midlands BMD. I understand (yet to be proven) that after thomas's death she married a Luke Bayley in 1920. Their children were:

Clara Harris 1893
Joseph Harris 1895
Edward Harris 1897
Alice Harris 1900
Bert Harris 1905 (my grandfather)
Arthur Harris 1907
William Harris 1908
Albert Harris 1909

Any knowledge or connections out there

Kel

BAGOT - BAGGOT - BAGGOTT - TOUR OF BLITHFIELD HALL & ST LEONARDS CHURCH, ADMASTON, RUGELEY, STAFFORDSHIRE - SUNDAY 7th SEP 2008

VISIT & TOUR OF BLITHFIELD HALL & ST LEONARD’S CHURCH
Admaston, Rugeley
Staffordshire
WS15 3NL
England
One of the homes of the BAGOT’s and their derivative families.
By arrangement with Cost Bagot Jewitt, Charlie Bagot Jewitt and Nancy Lady Bagot
Sunday 7th September 2008
St Leonard’s Church Service – optional. 9.00 am for 9.15 am
Tour of Blithfield Hall 10.30 am for 10.45 am
Optional – meet at St Leonard’s Church at 9.00 am (via church car park – turn left down Lea Lane, 200 yards before the Hall drive, if coming from Rugeley. Follow for about 1½ miles then turn right down church drive). Charlie Bagot Jewitt will be playing the organ and it gives a lovely introduction to the Blithfield Tour & the Bagot’s.
Tour of Blithfield Hall and Gardens 10.45 am – It would be best if those people not attending Church at 9.15 am come to the Church car park anyway (and not the Hall car park) at 10.30 am ish as Charlie will cover the church part of the tour after the Church Service. We can then walk through the lynch gate all together and have a cup of coffee before having a look around the house and gardens. Your own arrangements for Lunch after the Tour.
There is also the option of visiting Tutbury Castle not far away, following on in the footsteps of Richard Bagot (1552 -1597). There is a music concert being played on that afternoon at 2.00 pm. Circlus bring their unique brand of medieval music to Tutbury Castle with special guests handpicked by Circulus themselves which will enhance your viewing and listening pleasure.
The Abbots Bromley Horn Dance occurs the next day. Starts at 7 or 7.30 am on Monday 8th September, with a Church blessing in Abbots Bromley. They then dance/walk a route with several stops on the way to arrive at Admaston about 11-12 and onto the Hall from 12 noon. Timings are a bit hit & miss and it seems to depend on the level of hospitality en route! They dance in front of Blithfield Hall then stop for lunch. Do bring a picnic (fingers crossed it doesn’t rain!). They move on and end up back in the village about 3 to 4pm. Do a loop from the village, returning at about 6pm. Then the party starts with all the pubs open, other folk dancers (Morris, Clog etc) often turn up for a dance too etc – great fun – if its sunny.
Contact: Jim North jim.north@wanadoo.fr to reserve tickets for the visit to the Hall or for more information. Places are limited so a prompt response is advised.

I have just come across your inquiry. I have John Baggott and Margaret Bowater in my tree, also. I have received information through the GenesReunited web site. It is less than $US20 per year and their are about 3 people going back to the same family, in West Midlands, England. My ancester is Aaron Baggot, son of John, son of John again. I quote from the GR Member " Aaron's parents were John b 1741 and Martha Foster, and John's were John Baggott 1704-1784 and Margaret Bowater, 1710-1784. Most of the West Midland Baggotts are descended from these two."
Hope this helps you.
Margaret, Brisbane, Australia

Jeremiah Baggott (b. 1802- d.1874) and his wife Mary (b. 1803 -d. 1877) are buried in St. Patrick's cemetery in Providence, RI. They had 3 children: John, Ellen and Margaret. John died in 1918 and is in ST. Patrick's too. I lost track of Ellen, but Margaret moved to NYC and married twice( John Geraty, Andrew Kerwin). She died around 1914 but I haven't tracked down the cemetery yet.

Hi Donald:

I have a listing from a cemetery in Pelion SC. Some of the names sound familiar:

Rev Hiran LeCroy Baggott, Apr 20, 1845, Jan 15, 1926, Baptist minister 50 years.

Henry Lee Baggott 1869-1899, Irena Cremboa first wife, 1810-1852, Orpha Sawyer 1827-1915, second wife, Elisha Baggott 1802-1886. All shared the same stone.

Harriet Lavania Baggott, Jan 25, 1843, May 22, 1925

Let me know if this is of interest,

Best, Barbara

Hi: Did you receive any informaton on Parker Baggott?

There are several family descendants researching him. I have information that shows he married Lydia Lavinia Williams around 1800. They had a bunch of children, the oldest was Lydia Baggott born 1801 and later married John D. Williams. They were my great-great-great-grandparents.

I would also love to learn more about Parker. Happy to share what I do have.

Barbara

My Baggotts include Timothy (married to Bridget Kane/Keane). Their daughter Johanna (b. 1840s) married Thomas Lloyd and immigrated to Chicago in the 1860s. Any connection to yours?

Hello Alan, the late Mrs. Bartlett was my aunt. She gave me several photos of Blithfield Hall (the correct name for "Bagot Castle") and a little booklet on the history of the Hall. Unfortunately, I don't recall seeing pictures of staff members in any of the photos in the booklet.

An excellent website for all things Blithfield Hall is:
http://baggetthistory.com/blithfield.html

Happy hunting.
