Looking for birthplace of George Joseph Hilton Bagnall (or Joseph George Hilton Bagnall or George Joseph Hinton Bagnall) born, England, c. 1822. The 1851 census says he was born in Birmingham, but I have been unable to find his birth there, and I now believe he may have been born elsewhere and moved to Birmingham with his family at an early age.
He married, 1845, Elizabeth Hope Madden in Birmingham. He and Elizabeth moved to London shortly thereafter.
According to his marriage record, his father was Edward Bagnall, a mining engineer. Edward was apparently the Edward Bagnall, civil engineer and minerals agent, who had offices in Baskerville House, Birmingham, in 1830.
By family tradition, his mother was a Bray, but I do not have her given name. According to the same tradition, she had a brother, John Bray of London. I have original documents concerning this John Bray that have been passed down in the family, which gives some credibility to the family lore.
Children of Joseph George Hilton and Elizabeth Hope (Madden) Bagnall, born in Greater London:
1. Helen Amelia Bagnall, b. 1848.
2. Henry Bagnall, b. 1852 (died young).
3. Reginald Bray Bagnall, b. 1856.
4. Herbert Bray Bagnall, b. 1860.
Has anyone come across this family?
