      <description>Our family spelled the name Baggust, but the immigrant ancestor could not read or write, so wonder if there is a connection.He came from Gloucestershire England to New York state in 1830.After his children began attending school, the name used by most of them was Backus,probably as there were German families of that name in the area,and when spoken the names sounded similar.</description>
