Hi, David,
Turning from Paris,I read your message.
I find that it should be worth to search more informations about this "spanish way"... The name that you tell seems to me to be spanish names.
I went to Sicily in 88 but, as I can speak more or less Italian, and I can read it, but I am not able to understand the dialect, I could'nt really get in touch with some people in order to know a bit more about this subject. There were several "Bajata" or "Baiata" into the phone call (and I might have kept a photocopy of these pages). They mainly lived in Trapani. My gand-father was called Gaspard. He must be born in 1868. If you are interested, I could find further informations about this. My family went to Tunisia few time after this period, and some members stayed there until 1956 or so. My father, born in 1904 in Tunis, left his country to go to Marocco for a few years and then, went to Marseille (France) were he lived until his death. I am born in France. I know that my Grand-son went to North America for a few time, but I dont know exactly where he went to. I know he stayed also in Mexico, and recently, I found a Picture of him, when he was in Mexico.
Did you find your informations about the maltese origin on the Mormon site ? I went to Salt Lake City in 94, but I did'nt find anything about our surname. My other grand-father (my mother's father) was of maltese origin. His name was Borg, and I found many informations about this surnames, until 1700 or so...
