Hi everyone

I am looking for the family of James Baikie, born 1831 in Caithness Scotland: served with the 21st Imperial regiment in India; arrived in Victoria in 1855 and bought land at Sandy Creek, Central Victoria; took part in the land boom of the 1880s in Melbourne - his brother-in-law James Munro was one of the chief financiers of the boom, until it went all pear shaped in 1892 when James Munro's Federal Bank and other institutions went crash.

James managed to retrieve some capital as he then proceed to the Yarrawonga/Cobram area and again purchased extensive pastoral land on both sides of the Murray River.

James died in 1902 at Maldon Victoria, probably on a visit to one of his daughters who was then involved in the fund raising program for the Maldon Hospital

James married Catherine Munro the daughter of Donald Munro and Georgina MacKAy of Armadale Sutherlandshire and of Prahran Victoria
