Jane Rintoul & Isabella Stevens BAILLIE, sisters born Glasgow

Hi everyone,
I'm searching for any family, connections, or information about Jane, b.1899 & Isabella, b.1905, daughters of Robert Gardner BAILLIE & Catherine Binnie REID (sister of my Gt Grandfather) born at Firhill Rd, Glasgow.
Jane was a retired legal secretary when she died at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1994. Her usual address was Carlisle Rd, Southsea, Hampshire.
The informant on her death certificate was her niece, Isobel Catherine BIRCH of Norfolk St, Southsea.
I believe Isobel's mother must be Isabella Stevens BAILLIE who married Bhoja Ram KATARIYA or KATARYA, engineering student, at Govan, Glasgow in Dec 1926. Isabella died Glasgow, in 1941 as Isabella Stevens KAYE wife of John KAYE, civil engineer. Her sister Jane was the informant. Perhaps her husband had changed his name from KATARIYA to KAYE, I don't know.
Isobel Catherine KATARIYA was born in Glasgow 1927. I haven't found her marriage to BIRCH as yet.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards, Vicki
Hello Noel
I am trying to find Henry John Rex Bailie, whose mother was Henrietta Aspeling. She died giving birth and he was brought up by his grandparents in Queenstown. I realise the spelling is a little different but do not set too much store in spelling as I have found some Very strange things. Could we perhaps be looking at the same family? I would be happy to share any information I have with you.

Stella Sutherland
stellasutherland@hotmail.com

Hi I'm also looking for more information on Jessie Baillie, on my records she is the daughter of George Bell Baillie 1835 - 1911 & Mary Birse (Arbroath, Scotland), one of ten children in their first marriage. Daughter's Jessie Baillie, Kitty Baillie & Agnes Baillie did not sail with the rest of the family on the Loch Fyne vessel 1878 voyage for Port Adelaide, South Australia. Is this the same Jessie connection??

if so please email sheree.baillie@hotmail.com

William married Katharine Gall at Tannadice on 9 August 1758.

James was my 5 x GG Grandfather but I cannot make a definitive connection to your James Baillie nor the family members you mention therefore the only link at the moment is Nether Balgillo.

I woukd be interested to learn if you can make the connection.

Ian A C Scott

Wow It does look like we have the same person here. If we do have, my nan never knew any of this. She always wanted to know her father's name but her mother would never tell her.

My nan died aged 80 in 1999 - she was a really lovely person. We saw her every day when we were children and she never moved far from my mom. My mom and her grandma were very close - how strange families are - if she wasn't really her grandma.

Do you have any more details?

We always tried to find out about my nan's father but never expected her mother to not be her mother - although until she was a teenager she believed her gran to be her mother.

We have her birth cert but there is no real info on it - other than it took over a month to register.

I have loads of photos and one of her when she was about 18 months old.

Please could you use my e-mail: debpincher@hotmail.co.uk if you want to get in touch again rather than this site which is public.

Thank you for getting in touch - what a twist to the tale!

Deb

I have just looked at my tree which may not be totally accurate!! I haven't looked in ages and have forgotten most of it. I do have Walter Self and Ethel Oliver in there (don't know where I got info from - several year's ago probably.
I have Ethel's parents as Richard Oliver and Elizabeth Hart. Richard was the brother of John Thomas Oliver, my nan's grandad.
Their parents were Edward Oliver and Alicia Oakey (my nan's middle name was Alicia so there is a connection).

I have Ethel born in 1902 which could make it feasible for her to have had a child in 1918?!

My nan always lived with her grandparents/mother (Margaret) as a child.

Deb

Hi there. Ivy's mom was Margaret Oliver. This is very interesting - please can you tell me why you think you are related? Is it through Ivy's dad?? We don't know who he was - although I believe she met him several times when she was very young and he wanted to marry Margaret. Margaret came from Brownhills, Staffs. She died in 1977. She married a Frank Woodhouse in 1921. Does that help?

If you think there might be a connection here, please can you get in touch again. Who were your mother's parents? Margaret Oliver's were a John Thomas Oliver and Margaret Bevan.

Until Ivy was a teenager, she believed her nan (Margert Bevan) to have been her mother but the truth came out when her younger sister Jean (really Esme)found love letters to her mother from Ivy's father. Jean is still alive but says she can't remember Ivy's father's name - which seems a bit strange as she is still very alert, etc. At one point she said possibly Dewsbury.

Deb

Any way, her name was Lily Fieldhouse,, and she left Africa and came to Canada where she apparently give birth to my father John Craven, sorry I can`t help; we speculate that the father in question was in Africa. She never told my dad the name of his father. Grandmother.
Born from 1835-44 in County Tyrone according to the 1851, 1891 and 1901 census.
Her age at marriage and death conflict with her age (16) in the 1851 census. She may have given her age as younger when she got married, to make her the same age as her husband, then decided to stick with it! Has anyone has any suggestions for ways of finding the records, or can find them for me please.
She married William Hair in Scotland.
His parents were John Hair & Margaret McKerrow.
Her parents were John Baillie, and Margaret Arbuckle
robbiej. My grandmother's name was Annie Young Baillie she was born in 1906. Her father was Robert Baillie but I don't think he can have been the Robert Baillie listed in your post as I think he would be too old. Her mother was Jean Sharp(e). Do you know if the Robert Baillie you list also had a son called Robert?

Correction, original post should have read "I assume his birth to have been between 1700 and 1710 based on baptism records of children."

Hello Derek:

My apology for not getting back to you sooner. My Grt. Grandmother was a Baillie. Susan was her name born in 1868, Farnell, Angus Scotland. Her husband was David Nicoll. My Mum, Uncle and Grandparents lived at 3B Castle Street. In 2005 my husband and I had the opportunity to go to Scotland. We were in Brechin and dined at the Northern Hotel
greeted by Baillie Ancestry. There is a Lounge there named the Baillie Lounge. Where would your connection be please? Look forward to hearing from you.

All the best
Gail
