PS - I have reviewed my post and just have to add I have found information on three marriage certificates in the past to be incorrect. In one case, I had one person list her grandparents as her parents. She had been brought up by them from about age 2 after her parents died. Perhaps she never knew they were not her parents. In another case, a man got his own father's given name wrong (or the registrar did) and listed it as James, the same as the groom. That is what I meant by asking if the certificate was incorrect (because it is possible that they are), not sarcasm.

I did indeed just mean to query it and to provide the source for what information I have that is different from what was in the posting. In fact, my intent was to try to be helpful.
I searching for a copy of research papers of James E. Bane, of Hopedale, OH. He did extensive research of the original MacBean (Bain / Bane) pioneer families. I hope to learn even more about the John Bane, c1743 - 1819, of Short Creek, VA.

Re: The Bain Family of Liverpool

I realize you are looking for the Bain family on your mother's side, but by any chance do your Fink relatives have a Liverpool connection? My great-grandfather's brother, Louis Fink, lived in Liverpool in the 1870s and 1880s; he was originally from Suchowola (Suwalki), in what is now Poland.

Louis and his wife Mary (née Rosenbloom or Rosenblom) had two children born in Liverpool, Annie (b. 1877) and Lazarus (b. 1879). A few other Fink siblings, nieces, and nephews lived in Liverpool for a while in the late 1800s.

I realize this is a long shot, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Good luck with your search.

Lisa Grayson

Thanks for the quick reply. Margaret Shortreed Bain's father - Andrew Shortreed had a father, also Andrew Shortreed b. about 1776. This Andrew was one of 16 kids. A brother, Thomas 1774-1841 married Isabella Armstrong 1773-1870. They were my great-great-great-great grandparents. Getting back to your info - I have no info on Andrew & Isobel Shiell other than the names of 6 children (one of which is your Margaret). I would like to know more and would gladly give you info if you're interested. By the way - I live in southwestern Ontario, Canada. Where are you?

Dear Scott,
I would love to communicate with you about Robert Victor Bain. This man married into my family and he and his wife had no children. So I don't know alot about the Bain family. The information that I have is his Father and Mother were Robert Bain and Clara Eva Willard. He was born 18 Sep 1881 in Peotone, Will, Illinois. Let me know if that will help you. If so give me your e-mail address and we can communicate further. Alane
