Hi Samantha
I believe I was a friend of Freddy Baines. I lived in Grange, all my young life. Our friends were Jimmy Mattinson, Alan Anderson ... My Mum Mary Harwood, worked with Hilda Baines at Meathop Sanatorium. I, occasionally visited her as a resident nurse at a hospital in Ulverston. I'd love to hear how Freddy is doing. ...Steve Harwood

Hello, My name is Fred Lane and I am doing research on my maternal line. Subject William is whom I believe to be the ancestor of many of the Washington County North Carolina/Tennessee Baines descendants. For those going back further into documenting the Baines early lineage, we perhaps need to begin with William...I have requested a new board be established at Ancestry for these reasons. If any of you have documented evidence or family legend please send them to me for my dB and visit and participate in the new board if Ancestry approves it.

Kind Regards,

Fred Lane

Re: BAINES IN ILLINOIS

I am researching my 3rd great grandmother, Mary Dora Baines (or Bains). She was born in August in 1856 in Illinois. She married Thomas Jefferson Overstreet in Sorento, Bond, Illinois and moved to Kansas less then a year later. She alternately used Mary Overstreet or Dora Overstreet. Our family seemed to have always called her Dora though. I have never been able to find her parents or siblings. Eventually she moved to Kansas City, Jackson, MO where she operated a boarding house. I believe she died somewhere near 1935. Does anyone know who her parents may be or siblings? Thank you!

The Charles Joseph Baines, master plumber, of Manchester, England, who married Sarah Meacham, aka Meetcham, was my Great-Grandfather. I have a 1939 copy of my Grandfather's birth certificate in front of me as I type.

Charles Joseph Baines definitely had three sons; Thomas, who was my grandfather; Charles William who went to live with his wife Jane, known as Jenny, in Sydney, Australia, and George. Other probable siblings are Walter, Henry, Arthur, and Ivy Rose. At the moment I don't have an Elizabeth but I am taking time getting into this and don't like spending money.

My grandfather was also a plumber and I'm not bad at it either, but working for the Post Office also appears to be a family trait.

My mother always told me I had relatives in the US and AUS so let's see.
Hi Harry,
I've just come across your response. I'm so happy to hear from you. Possibly we can be of help to each other.

My great grandfather is Thomas Ireland Baines, born 1868,one of the twins born to Alexander and Mary Ireland Baines.

Family story has it that Ellen was a servant to Alexander & Mary.We don't know whether Alexander left wife, Mary before or after they came to Phila.sometime after 1882. By 1900, Alexander & Ellen were living together in Phila. and wife,Mary was living in Phila. with my great grandfather,Thomas Baines.
I've found an Alexander Baines, in 1910 Phila,as a widower, who was a boarder in the home of George & Mary White. Mary Baines died in 1901 Phila. I haven't found a death record yet for Alexander. Do you have any information?

I have Laura E.Baines as born 1 Sept.1889 Phila. She married(year/place unknown) to William Maule. they had the following known children - William (b.1908),John S. (b.1909),James (b.1911) and Ellen (b.1913).
I don't know if William and Laura divorced or he died, but Laura supposedly married(?) Anson East. This was told to me by a family member,so not sure how true this is.

If Laura is your grandmother, who are your parents? Can you send me information about you and your family,as well as your siblings? Do you know when & where Laura died?

I have additional information about Laura's half brothers and sister. Let me know if you're interested.
Contact me at my email address - heirsnbears4664@verizon.net
Look forward to hearing from you.
No, I dont have ANY Bainses that can help you. I have Frank, Born 26 Aug. 1889.
His Father was Fred. Fred married Mary robinson 7 Jun 1886

No information re his father.on the marriage cert.

There was an older son, Arthur who married someone called Ella as far as i know they had no children.
Fred was born in 1849. I cant find a record of his birth at all. there are some Fred Baines' but none in the right place.and I dont have his mothers name.I've been stuck on this for AGES. Censuses give his place of birth as Chapeltown leeds, and as Wilsden Yorkshire. It is so frustrating. I wish you luck with your research
kind regards Jill
He either re-married or lived with a woman named Ellen who was previously married to a Carrol. I believe he died in England. In the England marriage registry it list Alexander Baines and Mary E. I do have a marriage log from Englanad that shows Alexander Baines and Mary E. Ireland werre married in 1862. I have sent for the marriage certificate. I have been coresponding with Peggy Bannon about the Baines'. I used to see Aunt Bertie at church on Sunday and went to St. Thomas Aquinas school with the Graners and Lafferty. Carl and Janie had 3 sons, Clarence, Buddy and Dana, who are all probably in their 50's now. Janie was the eldest daughter (I think) of Walter and Annie.

Hi Carolyn,
I would be thrilled to learn more about the Bains Family and how they came from: Royality, England, Scottland and Irland.
Jessee James and Sarah Hulse Bains were my great grandparents.
Their son Samuel (Sami) was my granfather. He was almost 30 years older than my grandmother Mattie Lawson. I believe Sami was Hannah's older brother. My email is desser@honey.toast.net
Hope to hear from you soon. I have just started a family tree and would appreciate any help.
I'm looking for information on the parents of Eugene C. Baines (june 12 1888 - march 6 1961). Eugene married Cornelia L Cochran (Sept 19 1908). All this took place in Washington County, Tennessee.
Eugene was my great grandfathers (Delbert Baines)father. I have some information that list Eugene's parents as Mac Baines and Sallie Shipley but this is as far as I can get.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi,

I'm curious about your john william baines as my Gt Gt grandfather was also john william Baines born 13th may 1861 at Thorney. He was the illegitimate son of Millicent Baines (b1841). I don't think he is the same as your ancestor (although I can't find another born at thorney), but there is more than likely some connection - perhaps the Baines' were not very imaginative with names, and they were cousins?!
He was a military man, serving with the lincolnshire regiment as a St Johns ambulance man in the Boer War (he was known as 'blood bill'). He returned to Gainsborough and worked as an engineer. He married Harriet Ann Cook in 1885.

I'm trying to build on the research my mum started 15 years ago, so it would be nice to add some new branches!

Regards,

Emma
