Janet, was it you who (on Genforum) offered information from a family bible which included some Bairstows from Halifax, Yorkshire? If so, I'd be very pleased to take advantage of your offer, I am descended from Jonathan Bairstow and Priscilla Wheldrake/ Weldrick of Southowram, Halifax.
Many thanks - Maggie

Hello Maria

I can tell you quite a bit about William Bairstow Dixon and Ann Steel, though some of it can only be described as strange. They are my direct ancestors. The Steele family come from Lawrence Steel, to Ann Steel, to John William Steel (actually the son of William Bairstow Dixon), and so on down to me, adding an e over the course of time.

Get in touch direct (freya_steel@yahoo.co.uk) or through Ancestry if you'd like to know more.
No readily apparent connection to my ancestry and YES I've made a lot of changes to my tree in 4 years. Your ancestors Matthew and Dinah were married August 8, 1808 in Bradford. My guess is his DOB was July 22, 1792 Thornhill by Dewsbury (Whitley).Look in the IGI for the spelling pattern re his marriage to Dinah and that's probably him.Note-I've always found "www.genesreunited.co.uk" to be by far the best networking site and the cost is nominal. My family tree is in there.Ancestry.com is crap.Just my opinion.Give it a go.

Probably a bit late in day for you, seeing as you posted message nearly four years ago, but here goes. Mathew Bairstow and Dinah Drake were my great-great-great-great grandparents! As well as three sons they also had a daughter Harriet (which is my link to them) who married Joseph Charnock on 22 May 1836 in Wilsden. Harriet was born on 29 December 1810 and baptised on 5 May 1811 in Thornton. (information on birth received from IGI). Dinah is buried at the Lingbob Cemetery in Wilsden. Gravestone states she died 22 March 1851 aged 61 years. She was already a widow by then. Hope it's of help. Any further info you need, please contact.

My maternal Grandfather was William Bairstow, who came in to the U.S. from the Lancashire England area circa 1900 (Family legend says they came thru the Port of Philadelphia). Married to Margaret Johanna O'Brien, who never talked about her birth family, however, may have had a brother named Dennis. Anyone out there who can help this neophyte learn more about them? Thanks, Margaret Griffin

Have identified a number of siblings of my direct ancestors. If any of the following connects with anybody's Bairstow research, we may have a common link:
1)Jonathan Bairstow (b. 1837), Mary Bairstow-b.1843. Likely younger siblings of my GGGF John Bairstow b. October 1824.
Their father was Jonas, b. 1799-1800-1801.

2)William, Arthur and Emily Bairstow-b. 1850-1860. Younger
siblings of my GGF Jonas Bairstow Jr. b. 1848

Hi Jan:

I think we have similar circumstances that by coincidence almost mirror each other, but the names have been changed to ..........................! My Steele's and Bairstows also intersected with my Grandparents. My Steele line has the name with an "e" on the end. William Bairstow married Florence Steele in Toronto in 1920.His father was Jonas but I'm waiting for certificates from the GRO to go back further. Her father was Benjamin Steele, and HIS father was John Steele. Clear as mud? Happy hunting!

Hi Tony
That's a great coincidence. My John was married to Sarah (nee Robinson) and he lived at Bingley, Yorkshire, for many years. I wonder if there is a connection anywhere back along the line? My gt.grandfather was Enoch Bairstow, son of Benjamin Bairstow (I am having great problems trying to track down Benjamin Bairstow - do you know of him?) and my grandfather, Harry Bairstow, married Amy Steel, a grand-daughter of John Steel, hence the tie up with the Bairstows.
Regards
JSanice

Seeking any links to my Grandfather's younger brother Hubert (aka Herbert but Hubert is the correct version) Bairstow. Born 1881-1882 in Bradford. He was still alive as at June 1915 but can find no trace of him after that. My GF William and Hubert also had a brother Clement, who've I found connections to, but as well they had an older sister Emma Bairstow b. 1877 in that area.

Hi Joanna, It is brilliant that someone has replied to this surname. I have only bits of information about the Bairstow Dixons. It seems that a relative of mine died at age 1 yr and was buried in the same plot as them. I do not have the names to hand. The child was Edna Newby, parents George(Patch) & Sarah Newby. They had lived in Monk Fryston from about 1860, and up until about 1985 my Nanna, Mildred Halliday nee Newby there was still a Newby in Fryston.

As for the Fawcett connection, thats a bit of a coincidence. I was Halliday until I married. My husbands tree has been traced form New Zealand of which we have relatives. So If you need any info there I will see what I can gleen for you.

I would like to exchange more with you.
My EMail is caroline@hallidayc.freeserve.co.uk

Bye for now

Maria

Hi Janet

Have just found the site and your message purely by chance when I decided to look up my family name. My maiden name was Bairstow and my paternal grandfather was called Stanley Bairstow, born around 1900 (I'm checking out a more specific date). The fact that he had (and still has) family in Bradford lead to my interest in your notice. My grandfather definately didn't emigrate to Australia so probably isn't the person you're looking for but perhaps there's some link? I'd be only to happy to provide you with further information if you think it would be helpful.

If you've had success in finding the person you're looking for, I would love to hear. I would also appreciate information re: other sites that may help in my search.

Regards

Denise
