Marilyn,
I often wonder if anyone checks back to their posts on here as well. I am curious because though not a direct relative. My husband's grandmother Venla Alyne Mead/Bennett/Casey/Baize married a Wilford L. Baize in 1971 in Dallas Texas according to Texas marriage record index. I don't know who his parents were or where he was born but according to his headstone in San Jacinto Memorial Gardens, Houston, Texas he was born 23 Feb 1922 and died 28 Jan 1985. He died in Houston, Harris County, TX. My husband's father knew Wilford as Daddy Curly. I have one picture of him but it is not a clear one. I wonder if you have a Wilford anywhere in your notes or research. To my knowledge Wilford and Venla did not have any children together. If you would like to correspond my email is shrtcntrygirl34@yahoo.com.

God Bless,
Candice

Ok, my Baise's may not be part of this but yet they may... I am at a total stopping point on the Baise side. My Father is Arthur Baise B. 1947, my grandfather was John Baise B. 1906,g-grandfather Hiram Baise B. 1866, & gg-grandfather was Abednigo Baise B. 1842... This is where I end. I have found copies of civil war info on my Abednigo Baise and even something after he passed... However nothing on his parents, siblings..etc. I do know one story I have found thru my searches so far and that is at some point my gg-grandfather had a falling out with his brothers and one of them changed the spelling of their last name. I am not sure which side it was but I am guess it was my gg-grandfather that changed the spelling since I can't find anyone related to him. My Baises are in the Lawrence County, Ohio area. However, I know that they have lived in the West Virginia area and Kentucky is right there as well, so it is definitely more than a possiblity that they have Kentucky relatives.
So I was hoping that someone out there with Baise/Baize/Bayes/Bays/Baze...etc. family could maybe shed some light on the subject and give a girl a hand! I would really appreciate it greatly!

Thank you ,

Erin Baise-Bell

I forgot to add that I found two 1930 Census records for James (Jimmy) Baize. One shows him living in Indianapolis with his grandparents. The other shows him living in Greencastle with Leonard and Fanneal Greenlee which corresponds with your stating his mother married a Greenlee.

I should add that I don't know for sure that the John Barber who married my great-aunt (Nancy Bowman) is the same John Barber who married Lou McClain. I'm mainly relying on Ancestry for clues in this regard. "My" John Barber married Nancy Bowman in 1877. They lost an infant daughter and had another daughter (Mary Alice Barber) who lived to adulthood, married a George Alvord and had several children. Nancy died in 1902. I found a John Barber married a Lou McClain in 1904. They were the parents of three children: Ruby, Chales and Fauneal. It appears Lou McClain (maiden name Lasley) was the widow of a Conrad McClain (he died in 1902) having two children (Gladys and Roy) with him. So an unanswered question is if these two John Barbers are the same person? I think it's very likely they are as both are shown by census records as living in the Ladoga, Indiana area. The death dates of John's wife Nancy and Lou's husband Conrad in 1902 agree with their marrying in 1904. Find-A-Grave shows a John Barber buried in the Stoner Cemetery near Ladoga with a death year of 1941. I'm pretty sure this is my "John Barber" although there doesn't appear to be a stone for his first wife, Nancy.

Yes. My Ancestry information is under davesmith8633 - Smith/Pritchett Family Tree. I believe I found Lou Barber's first husband (a McClain) who was the father of the Gladys and Roy McClain you mentioned. I don't have personal knowledge of the Barber family so I'm mostly going on what I found on Ancestry.

John Barber's first wife (Nancy Bowman) was a sister of a great-grandfather of mine. I've been searching for census records for him and his first and second (Lou) wives. I entered the information in your query in Ancestry and found several possible hits in Ancestry. So my suggestion would be for you to try doing that to locate Jesse Baize.

I just found out today that if he is the same one that he was married to my husband's great grandmother Venla A. Mead/Casey/Baize. If the same one I posted pictures of his grave in San Jacinto Cemetery, Houston, Harris Co, TX. Please let me know. Thank you.

Thank you for responding Erma.
I just started researching Genova's family and am glad I have the correct family for her.
My list for their children:

Holley M. b. Nov 1899 KY dec'd by 1910
Clarence Hubert b. 1902 KY
Corrin L. b. 6 Apr 1904 Butler co., KY
Genova May b. Sep 1908, KY
Robert b. 11 Nov 1911 Ohio co., KY dec'd by 1920
Viola F. b. 17 Sep 1914, KY dec'd by 1920
Claren M. b. 22 Mar 1916 Ohio co., KY
Walton b. 15 Aug 1917 Ohio co., KY dec'd by 1920
William R. b. 12 Jun 1919, KY

I am currently using Sept 1880 for Vicy's bd. As far as the other marriages you mention, she is consistently with Walton in the censuses and also states they are both in their first marriage in 1910. I do concur her name was Green as that was stated in the children's birth records.
If they hadn't been married to have children, how could Walton be a Sr.? That is odd to have that on a marriage record unless they had already discussed children's names at that point, or he was planning the future.

Here is a mention of Walton in the newspaper:

Title: Hartford herald (Hartford, Ky.): November 13, 1912
Publication Info: Hartford, KY: Jno. P. Barrett & Co., 1912

Page 3, Col. 2

A certain tract or parcel of land
lying in Ohio County, Kentucky, on
the head waters of Sixes creek, be-
ing in the Northeast corner of his
home tract, known as the Isaac
Baize tract, sold by the Master
Commissioner of Ohio county, Ken-
tucky, and on the South side of the
Horse Brance and Gilstrap road,
and bounded as follows:
Beginning at a stone, corner to
T.J. Wilson, W.W. Baize and Ma-
rion Phegley's original corner;
thence with said big road aobut 42
poles to a stone, Henry Spencer's
corner: thence South about one
hundred yards to a stone; thence
East about 42 poles to a stone in
the big road, thence with said big
road to the beginning containing
four acres, more or less. The above
land was conveyed to Walton Baize
by Marion Phegley and Sallie Pheg-
ley and H. N. James and Lillie
James on the 20th day of Decem-
ber, 1906, and recorded in Deed
Book 32, page 185, in the Ohio
County Court Clerk's office, or suf-
ficient thereof to produce the sums
of money ordered to be made.

This announcement was also in the Nov. 27, 1912 issue also.
I see James mentioned here.

Genova's death info:(two sources)

BURTON GENOVA M 073 OHIO OHIO 06-30-1982 036 17713 1982

GENOVA M BURTON
Date 820630
Age 073
Place OHIO
Residence OHIO
Volume 036
Cert 17713
Deathvol 82

Mentions of her in newspaper:

Publication Title: The Ohio County Times-News
Content Source: SmallTownPapers, Inc.
Country: USA
State: Kentucky
Town: Hartford
Zip Code: 42347
Start Date Year: 1865
Year: 1975
Month: May
Day: 8
Page Number: 5

Hospital Admissions
May 4
Genova Burton

Publication Title: The Ohio County Times-News
Content Source: SmallTownPapers, Inc.
Country: USA
State: Kentucky
Town: Hartford
Zip Code: 42347
Start Date Year: 1865
Year: 1975
Month: June
Day: 19
Page Number: 5

Admission
June 16
Genova Burton

Publication Title: The Ohio County Times-News
Content Source: SmallTownPapers, Inc.
Country: USA
State: Kentucky
Town: Hartford
Zip Code: 42347
Start Date Year: 1865
Year: 1979
Month: February
Day: 22
Page Number: 8

Ohio County Hospital Notes
Saturday, February 19

Genova Burton, Hartford

Note*doesn't say admission or discharged

Publication Title: The Ohio County Times-News
Content Source: SmallTownPapers, Inc.
Country: USA
State: Kentucky
Town: Hartford
Zip Code: 42347
Start Date Year: 1865
Year: 1971
Month: November
Day: 4
Page Number: 12

Ruthie Wilson and Geneva Burton visited
Mrs. Faye Jett of Fordsville.

NOTE* not sure this is Genova due to misspelling, but like as not, it is.

Info for William:

William Allen Burton B. 23 Sep 1893 , Ohio, KY
D. 4 Sep 1971 Ohio County Hospital, Hartford, Ohio, KY
Bur.
I don 't have parents or date of birth/death for (Viola)Vicie Green. I have her married Jan 12, 1899 in Butler Co. KY, to John Walton Baize, Sr. (There seemed to be another last name, maybe earlier marriage? (James)

I have children for them as: Clarence Hubert, Genova, Hobart, Viola F., Claron M., John Walton, Jr., and William R. Baize.
I have three other possible marriages for her: Robert J. Embry Dec 24, 1891 in Ohio Co. KY, also Hiram Hobbs on Feb 7, 1905 in Ohio Co. and Thomas Smith on Jun 22, 1925.

As for Genova Baize, I have her b. 1907 in Grayson Co KY (no death date) and m. Dec 15, 1928 in Muhlenberg Co. KY to Willian Allen Burton, b. 1896 in Ohio Co. I have no children listed for them.

My info is not very complete and could have errors. Some of it came from KY Births, some from marriage bonds, censuses, etc.
I stand to be corrected!

Erma,
Did you ever find out about Vicie Green? Do you happen to have any information on Geneva/Genova Baize? I have a Genova May Baize b. 1908-1909 d. 30 Jun 1982 ,Ohio, KY md. William Allen Burton son of Cicero Anthony Burton and Persis Isabelle Boone. Two children known of-Kenneth Lee and Charles Walton. I have seen mention online of someone attaching Walton & Vicy to another gal and am wondering if I have the wrong family for Genova.
I have also seen Louisa L. used for Vicy and am wondering maybe if that should be Luvisa (1900 census). So far, I see 9 children for Walton & Vicy.

Thank you,

Deb

In your family tree you have a George Acree. I am interested in any information on this family living in Adair Co., Casey Creek, White Oak KY area. I believe he might be relatetd to my Calhoun's from the same area in KY. I have a copy of a news article he wrote refering to Steve, Levi and Curt Calhoun as his cousins. Article attached:

Adair County News (Columbia, Ky)
July 27, 1910, Page 5

TO My Old Friends
Cork, Ky George Acree
Cork, Ky

July 22, 1910

Editor News:

If you will in kindly allow me I
will speak to some of my old
friends, kinfolks and acquaint -
ances through your paper, as I
am sure it goes to many of their
homes.
Aunt Nancy Webb my moth -
er's sister, How are you And
Ethel and Myrt and the child -
ren? We have looked for you to
visit us all summer. Pa is very
feeble and would rather see you
than any one living. Judge D.
G. Shepherd, here is my hand.
I remember all your kindness to
my father, the assistance you
rendered him every way, and I
scan the paper eargerly for every
mention of your name. Tom
Frankie; I wonder if 20 years
have changed you very much?
0, Tom! How I should like to
hear you and S. G. Tarter sing,
"The Armor-Bearer." Tell Elzie,
Frank, John and Melvin "howdy"
for me. Also Martha, Lula and
Laura. I notice Uncle Griffin
Wheat's widow is still living.
Levi, Tom, Henderson, Vernon,
a hearty handshake to you all.
Do you remember the "pink-a-
winkles" in Williams creek? I
wish to state in this connection
that "I never used tobacco at all,
but feel best with a little in my
pocket." If you dont remember
about this get Griff White or
Tom Shepherd to tell you. Uncle
Steve Calhoun and his boys,
George and Curt, my old play -
mates, I should enjoy meeting
you all so much. I know every
hill, hollow and by-path from
the old white school house to
Webb's X Roads and as old
memories come crowding up, I
feel how small a space a letter
contains for speaking to you all.
Uncle Thompson Abrel and
Aunt Martha I hope you are
both alive and well. And Bram-
lett! I heard he was a preacher,
and Jo and Elzie Silas, I hope
you have not entirely forgotten
me. Jim Brieken, my dear old
friend how are you? and "Eckie"
and Johnnie? But softly! a word
or two before passing him, I
merely wish to state that big
feet or little feet, going out at
one door or both doors, white
rag on his head or off his head, I
love John Bricken. Say, Jim.
was the little girl that was mur -
dered Nannies daughter? John
how would you like a splash in
the Baptizing hole?
John A. Webb, my fathers old
friend and mine. How I should
like to see your eyes flash with
intellectual fire, and feel the
hearty, healthy, grip of your
hand in real good fellowship.
Do you remember how you used
to ride 3 or 4 miles to talk with
my father, he and you sitting up
sometimes till nearly midnight
discussing Astronomy, philosophy,
Literature, History etc? You
also lent me many books that
helped me.
John A. was born abt 1781, the son of John who died 1789. John's dob was given as 1695 but I question that.He was supposed to be the father to Abednego born 1783. John A. also fathered a son Abednego in 1829.

Jack

It is suspected that John Baize had 3 siblings; Catherine, Anna , and Abednego. As I have heard it, the children got separated after the mother and father were killed in an Indian raid. You might very well have the sister.
