Who were Wawrzyniec Tyler bn 1841 married in 1869, Dubin,Wielkopolskie, Polska to Franciszka Bak bn in 1846.

They had a daughter Antonina Tyzler bn 1873, Gierlachowo, Lubin, Wielkopolskie, Polska.

You did not state the country where this person was born
When did this person immigrate???

Census records do not record the specific locality where a person was born. Only the state or country is recorded.

A little more: They were held in detention on arrival for lack of medical certificate. Her companions were the Kosiorowskis. Julia was Mikal's daughter and Ewa is listed as his sister-in-law.

Did a little rummaging and turned her up. She is listed as a passenger on the Roon, arriving on 30-Mar-1911. Her brother-in-law, last name Kolachi (?), was already in Ballston Spa and sponsered her. His address was 73 South Street. She was traveling with Mikal and Julia Kosivowski (?), also from Hadykowka. Listed her age as 17 and her father as Jan in Hadykowka. Mikal was 45 and Julia 17, same age as Ewa.

My wife's mother's family are Baks originally. The spelling was changed to Bunk. They lived in Schaghticoke, 17 miles
down Rt 67 from Ballston Spa. Her father was Thomas Bak (Bunk),her uncle was born Jan Bunk and changed his name to John. They were from Rudna Mala, which is 20 miles south of
Hadykowka in Galicia. Bak seems to be like Smith in Galicia,
so this could be a coincidence, but the close proximity of the two families in a rural area of NY a hundred years ago
bears looking into. My wife's mother and one uncle are still living. We will make inquiries. Can you fill in any connections? Do you know what ship she came in on in 1911?

I'm looking for the family in Poland of my Great Uncle Piotr Pawel Bak (Peter Paul Bak). He was born in Zborow Poland to the parents of Mikołaj Bąk and Sophia Przygoda on June 17, 1892, according to the church records in Solec.
My Grandfather, Jozef Bąk was born in Zborow on January 14, 1890 and came to America in 1912. I am planning to visit Poland next year and would like to meet the family of Peter Paul Bonk

Hi Mark,

Glad to make your acquaintance. My name is Brad Bunk. Antoni Bak was my grandfather. My father was his son George, Born 1928. Our paternal grandmother was Sofia, and her maiden name was Pustelniak.
They were both from Rogoznica. As you probably already know, Galicia was part of the Austria-Hungarian empire until the end of WWI where is ceded to the newly created Poland state.
Rogoznica is in South Eastern Poland, a few miles north of the city of Rzezeow. Here is a link to the Communities website translated into english. http://tinyurl.com/8xkytyv

OK....so...your Grandmother is the daughter of Antoni's sister Dorthea? Antoni married his niece who was your Grandmothers sister? But he wasn't blood related to the Niece? It is really confusing and my Mother doesn't know a lot about her Bunk side of the family.

I haven't been on Ancestry.com before....do you have a family tree or something I can view? It might be helpful in piecing together the puzzle. I do have the documents from Antoni's Ellis Island arrival...did he come over with Dorthea? Any info on Rogoznica, Galicia?...where it is now and what country it became a part of?

My Grandfather was Thomas Bunk (son of Antoni) who was a coal miner in Windber. Antoni was my Great Grandfather. Thomas Bunk named my mother Dorthy (I wonder if it was after your Great-Grandmother?) From what I understand Antoni's first wife died during childbirth and he remarried a relative of some sort.

I think we are related! Where do you live? I live in Syracuse, NY and am 51 years old.

He is from Rogoznica, Galicia and his name was Antoni Bak. I noticed a Dorthea Bak and wondered what info you had. Where is Rogoznica, Galicia now...what is it called and what country did it end up being a part of? Any info you have on the Bak name from that town would be greatly aporiciated.

We have had a hard time tracing my grandmother. All we know is that she married Filip Romanik. She had a borther Stanley and Jacob and that is as far as we got.

My grandfather was Jan Alexander Bak, born March 10, 1898, came to Canada in 1927 from Tarnowiek, Poland. He had a brother George Bak who came to the USA before him and lived in Wilmington Delaware. Their father was Alexander Bak. Does anyone know this George Bak who lived in Wilmington Delaware?

I also checked what you said about Anthony Bunk. I checked the 1920 census, and Anthony Bunk born in 1916 is my Uncle, well half uncle!
My father was George born in 1928, which is in the 1930 census.

I just ordered the obituaries of Lukas, Martin, and Anthony Bunk. I will let you know if there is any pertinent information in them, when I get them.

Side note: My great-aunt, Frances Pluta (1909-1986) married Anthony Bunk (1916-1947 ??) -- I don't have much info on this aunt - They lived in Windber area.

I checked the ellis island site, it's hard to read but it looks like my grandfather was Lukasz's brother. The ship manifest says he's visiting a brother, but can't really make it out, but it looks like Lukasz. Here's a link to the manifest. It's line 19. I think it says Bak Lukasz.

Unfortunately info about my grandfather is sketchy. He died when my father was 12. My father left the area when he was 15 and we only went back there a couple of times.
One other note, is there is an annotation under my grandfathers ellis island record, from a Mark Flemming, that claims Antoni is also his grandfather.

Thanks for the info. Is your grandfather related to Lukasz? I believe Lukasz was my great-grandmother's brother (as they came over together).

My great-grandmother was Dorothea Bonk and married John Pluta in 1898, not long after she arrived to the US. They lived in Somerset County. Dorothea emigrated with 2 other Bak's, Marcin and Jedrzej (Andrew). I would guess they might be brother's as well. My great-grandmother had 18 children; 11 lived until adulthood.

Catherine, my grandmother lived in Somerset County all her life and just passed away in 2007...she was 100 years old.

Let me know if there is any relation.

My grandfather emigrated from Rogoznica Galicia in 1906 to Scalp Level PA. He was 17. I still have lots of relatives in the area that may be of some help. Do you have any names?
I do know that Lukasz was killed in a mining accident. Here's a link to that info.

My GGrandmother did use Bonk. Did your grandfather (or other relatives emigrate to Cambria or Somerset PA areas?

I was not able to locate any information on my GGrandmother's brothers or cousins or where the settled, most likely in those areas. I know the cousin was in Cambria, but I still couldn't find him.

Hi just to let you know that a lot of BAK surnames changed to BUNK as well as BONK.
My Grandfather was Antoni Bak (later changed to Bunk) emigrated in Mar 06 and was also from Rogoznica, Galicia. I believe they were all related.

Looking for the brothers and cousin of Dorothea BAK (BONK). She immigrated in 1898 with her brother Lukasz (b. 1864) from Rogoznica, Galicia to Johnstown, PA. In the manifest Lukasz and Dorothea are listed as going to a cousin, Frank Kroll (Krol). She was married to John PLUTA a few months later.

In 1903, Lukasz and two other brothers, Jedrzej (b. 1867) and Marcin (b. 1876) were also listed on another manifest coming to Johnstown, PA (to brother-in-law).

I have not been able to find any of the 3 brothers or Frank Krol(l) in the Cambria/Somerset area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to find info on my GGmother Balbina Bak, she returned to the us in 1913 (she had already been here, her maiden name was fiedura)and she was traveling with a Marya Bak who was 17 at the time, and my great aunt who was 4. all of them were listed as being born in galicia, smilcsa austria. it looked like Marya listed her father as who she was coming to visit i believe the last name was either buda or bala. My ggfather was john bak who arrived here in the early 1900 but there are so many John baks arriving here at that time, it is impossible to find his records. please let me know if any of this matches your info.

My grandfather, Kai Frederick Hertz, was born in Naestved, Denmark. His mother was Johanna Josephine (Johanne Josefine) Bak. She is listed on several documents as having been born in Thisted, Denmark and lists a brother as her closest relative. Unfortunately, none of the documents is clear enough to get a first name. Family history mentioned two brothers, one named Peder. Anyone out there have a connection? I seem to recall one of the brother's having settled in Australia.

I am looking for Jan Bak, the father of Eva Bak. He also had the following children: Ann, Frank, Joey, John, Peter, Vicky. He married Kathrine Maciag. I know that Eva, my husband's grandmother, was born in Hadykowka, Poland on 12/13/1885. She emigrated to Ballston Spa, New York on 4/4/1911 origin Belgium at 17 yrs. old. She travelled to this country with her brother in law. Ann and Joey both died young of whooping cough, I have information on Peter that he was killed at 22 yrs old in September coming home fro brother, Frank's where he worked. Jan Bak and Kathrine never came to this country. I'm looking for Jan's parents and Kathrine's also. I'd like to know where Jan grew up.

I had gotten a letter from your mother December 2001. My brother and I were just really getting into things. I will send you the information that I have on the Baks. Also check the Plocinik family on ancestry.com. I do not have any information on Your grandparents except that Peter Meravage died in 1938. Znnz Born 11/18/1888 in Niska Poland Married 2/2/1911 and died 6/3/1978. If you have any more information let me know, I will let Tom know that we are trying to get more information.

We could not get any information about the Romaniks. My Dad's parents were very tight lipped about their past. I have some information about Stanley and Jacob. Stanley lived in Detroit. He is the grandson of Stella. I heard from Helen Lileck. I am not quite sure about Blanche. It is a little midleading.
