Mathilda Bakken Baccene

I have recently begun a search to find out what I can about my father's childhood and family and to see if I have any living relatives on his side (mother's or father's). My father was raised in an orphange and then possibly lived on a relative's farm. His name as I knew it was Karl Eugene Baccene but I have found a birth certificate showing that his name was actually Carroll Eugene Baccene. He was born in Cook County, Illinois on 1-28-1933 to Mathilda Bakken Baccene and Robert Baccene. I have lived my life wondering about my father's family and would so much appreciate any information that you may have. My brother and I would like to have some closure to questions we've had all of our lives and would also like to meet people to whom we might be related. If you have any information regarding Carroll Eugene Baccene and Mathilda Bakken Baccene and Robert Baccene please let us know.

HI, My name is Carol Litke, I am from near Dawson, Minnesota a good friend of mine asked me to try to find any information I could on his great- aunt. Maggie Kragh who moved to near Minot, North Dakota in the late teens or early 1920's- at least that his what he thought.
I am looking for an Alice Eugene De Lander. Supposedly when she emigrated from Sweden she was given the name "De Lander". My grandfather told me her Swedish family name was Bankkson, but I'm wondering if it could be Bakken. Her first name was also given to me as Alyson, though in the old family records I just show her as Alice Eugene De Lander. She died in 1948 in Kansas City or Independence, Mo. She was married in central Michigan, Salt River, Shepherd, MI. She and her husband apparently had their children across the upper midwest, from Iowa, ND, MT, all the way to WA, hence my curiosity in your post. Her husband was Richard Augustus Kress. They married in 1873.

I haven't done to much research on this side of my family yet, but I'm related to some Bakkum's. There is a Gulbrand Olesen Bakkum (Gilbert O.) who married a Julie Pedersdatter (Julie Pederson) in 1901 in Norway, They 8 children, one of them was John, born Mar 20, 1908 , died Dec 23, 1989.
Gulbrand's parents were Petro Petrina Gulbrandsdatter, and Ole Olsen Bakkum.
Would this be the same family

Dear Jennifer, I apologize. I wasn't an Ancestry member when I put the message abt Bakkens on the board. I hadn't looked at it again until a few days ago. My father was Vern Glen Moen, son of Lewis Oscar Evenson Moen, Grandson of Even Larsen Moen and Anna Olsen Bakken. Mom was the genealogist but she was terrified almost of the Norwegian naming system. It looks like we are related and that you have quite abit on the children too.
My grandfather was Murray A. Bakken. I am fairly sure that he was one of the first few generations in the USA. I know that he lived in North Dakota for some years. He was enlisted in WWII. I know that he had two chidren, boy and girl. The female name was Shirley. He was widowed, married my grandma Pauline Napier and had my father Randall Murray Bakken in 1955 in California. They resided in Folsom, CA for years and then moved to Gardnerville, NV where they both passed on a week apart in the year 2001 or 2002. My father and I don't talk. He is very cruel. I really would like your help. Thank-you.sarabakken@gmail.com 575-706-8660

Hi...i'm just starting research on my Bakken family but I am the great-great-great granddaughter of Ole Christen Bakken and Guri Kvalen, who you mentioned in your post. I'd love to learn more about them. Their son, Ole Christen Bakken is my great-great grandfather and he married Martha Olson in 1882 and lived in Trail Co, ND. Their daughter, Helga Bakken, married Nels Paulson and they had my grandfather, Peter Christen Paulson in 1913. Anyways, I have some more information on Ole Bakken and Guri Kvalen too. I'd love to compare notes with you. Are you related to them too? Email me at: lunkerlaker@hotmail.com Thanks Jennifer

Jorden O. Bakken bn 1876 Norway came to U.S. 1930 Census 1903. Wife Ida C. (Larson) Bakken came to U.S. 1904 with her two children Carl Oswald Bakken and Ragna Bakken. The last three children born to Jorden have their names shown as Olson but they were listed as Bakkens in 1910 Census. This is where their mother's name appears. Can't find 1920 U.S. Census but know they settled in Hatton-Trail Co.-ND where Albert, Joesph and Gunda lived on the family farm. Gunda when by the last name as Olson and was a school teacher there. Know they are buried in the Olson plot in Hatton,ND. Gunda told me she raised the children after the death of their mother in 1917. One of the boys had polio so she agreed to take care of them and Joe was known in the commuity of being a good farmer and restored old farm equipment. Am trying to find why the name change and what happened to Ida C.(Larson)Bakken. Any information would be greatly appricated. Carl married my mother and had two children Ronald Lee Bakken and Carol Jean Bakken both born in Blackduck-Beltrami Co.-MN (USA) Ron was killed in a bus accident 31 Dec 1962. He was married for seven months and had no children by is wife Linda. Carol married Ernie Ryckman and has three children, The l9l0 U.S. Census states that Ida, son Carl and daughter Ragna imagrated to the U.S. in l904. Hope you can help. Sincerely Loy M.
My maiden name is Bakken. My grandfather (Kaare Kvislabakken) emigrated to the USA in 1917 from Stordalen, Norway (near Trondheim) and shortened his name to Carl Bakken. After arriving in New York, he moved to Madison, Minnesota to live with his mother's sister, Uncle Bernhard Lien. I am not sure how long he stayed there, but he eventually moved to Minneapolis where he met and married my grandmother. He died in 1945 in a hit and run car accident. I am looking for people in the Madison, MN area that might be related to him (and me, too.)

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I've had to put actively researching my family lines on hold for a while. I did receive information from another Bakken descendant a while back. It only goes back to Knute and Kristi, also. I do have info also on Andrew & Julia's brother Knute K. (wife & children, then one grandchild - the guy who I got the info from), then I have Andrew's children, of course. In going through old family photos, I've uncovered some Bakken family portraits, too.

My ancestor Julia is Andrew's younger sister. Please contact me if you would like to chat further.. Thanks!

Re: Bakken history...

My Great-Grandfather August Bakken is a bit of a mystery. According to census data he was born February 1842 in Norway, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1870. He married Caren Fosser in Barton, North Dakota in 1885 or '86. Since my Grandfather was born in 1884, and a birth record remains undiscovered, I can't be sure August was actually his birth Father. August and Caren had several other children. My Grandfather was Anton Bernt Bakken, (married Alma Lander) his siblings were; Emma, Clara, Anna, Alice, Albert and Esther.

This was an unfortunate time for census info. No 1890 census. I didn't find him in the 1880 census. 1900 shows all his children, and by 1910 it shows his wife Caren as head of household. I'm assuming at this point he died between 1906 when his last child was conceived, and the 1910 census. So far his grave or a record of his death is also undiscovered.

Anyone have any connections to any of these folks?
