My parental great-great-grandfather was Dimitrij Bala from Poland or Ukraine, he had about 9 siblings, some of them moved to America (one priest Joseph and two nuns Marie and Anna). That´s all I know. Michael could be one of Dimitrij´s brothers.

Gabriela Bala Kabelka

I'm new at this. Have gotten back to my paternal great grandparents Michael and Anna Bala. Children were Walter (my grandfather) Olga and John, who are all deceased. Place of birth was Poland, but language spoken was Ukranian. They lived in Detroit/Hamtramck. I remember some family talk years ago that they originally came through the Hamilton, Ontario Canada area. Also have a distant memory of an uncle who was a priest, I think in Canada. Would love to hear from anyone who may have a family link!

Monica Bala Hansen

This is my maternal Great Grandfather, born in 1885, Poland. He married Martha (unknown surname) and had 6 children; Louis, Celia, Edward, Raymond, Barry(? unreadable on document), and Bernard (my maternal grandfather). I obtained this information on the 1920 Census in Dorr, Michigan. I also know at the time of this sensus Walter's brother, Felix, was also living with him. Felix was born in Poland as well abt 1897. Would love to learn more information. If anyone out there has any, please contact me.

I am the great-granddaughter to Albert Bala and Hedwig (Hattie) Derlinga who lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Albert & Hattie had a son Stanley Bala. Stanley's sister, Aniela (Angela) was my grandmother. There were several other siblings, but I am not home to review my notes, so I cannot tell you all of them.

Could we be related?
Nancy Firlik
Nncyfrlk@hotmail.com

Hello - I am another descendant of the Bala family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My g-grandfather was Albert Bala who was married to Hattie (Hedwig) Derlinga. I have tried to research their place of origin, but I have not been successful. My aunt told me that she thought they came from Przesmyl, in southern Poland. (The reference was alway to Galicia.)
Nancy Firlik
Nncyfrlk@hotmail.com

This Bala/Bailey thing has really sent me scurrying so if I can help ANYONE not have to struggle like I have, it's worth it.
Suggestion for "matching up" our BALA's and BAILEYs

I don't work for the website I'm about to plug here, but it is similar to Rootsweb's "World Connect" with one big difference.

It is called GenCircles and will not only allow you to upload your family gedcom, but will MATCH IT UP with other uploaded files and provide you with a list of individuals who are also in someone elses file. You can then view your data and the other persons SIDE BY SIDE to see if you have the same person in common. I think if we all uploaded our gedcom file there, we could sort out a lot of these BALA lines a lot quicker and match up with others working the same group.

http://www.gencircles.com/

Just a suggestion---I already found some BALA listings in there and I have not yet updated my file online, but am heading that way now.
