Hi William,

I don't know if you still check in on this site but I would love to speak with you..
My name Is Deborah Lee Bailey. My Maternal Grandmother was Dora J. Bala Whiting her father was James Edward Bailey was her Father and Sophia was her Mother.
My Father was Howard Clifton Bailey ,He had 2 brothers bruce and Harold Bailey , His Father Howard Bailey Sr burried in Fair Haven, Grandma Anna Dakin. He also had Brothers George Bala , Ken Bala and James Bailey of Sterling married to Barbra Crocket( decendet of Davey Crocket)
I was told by my Grand father the reson for the name changewas because when they arrived in America No one could pronounce it correctly! So a few stayed Bala and the others turned to the American version of Bailey.
I am also hoping to find living relatives! Everyone has passed on except 3 1st cousins and they are in the same position, their father and mother also passed young.

I grew was the only 1 out of the family born in Ca. and visited fair haven a handful of times. I never had a chance to meet relatives from MI,PA or Canada.
I would love to leave my kids with more history of our family then I was!!

Hi laurie,
I know it's been a while that you posted anything but thought I'd give it a chance. I was also told we came from French and Welsh background! It's so hard with all the different name changes.
I would love to hear from you! The majority of my family were raised Quebec MI and upstate NY most have been burried in Fair Haven.

Howaed C. Bailey was my father..My Grandfather was also Howard Bailey and lived many years in Fair Haven NY.

All have passed now and I was the only person born and raised in Ca.

It would be great to find other living family memebers but also having problems finding any info past David Bala 1776? I was told we came from Europe but with so many vesions of the name it's very haerd to track...

Hello, I too am related to David Charles Bailey..

my immediate family has all passed and My son and I have been working on our family tree.
My Grand Mother was Dora J Bala-Bailey born in MI. The rest of my family grew up in Canada but Majority Fair Haven, Sterling and Oswego NY.
There are also quite a few in MI..
It would be great to speak to someone to put the missing pieces together!

I´m looking for my Bala family ancestors. My parental great-great-grandfather was Dimitrij Bala from Poland or Ukraine, he had about 9 siblings, some of them moved to America (one priest Joseph and two nuns Marie and Anna). That´s all I know. Michael could be one of Dimitrij´s brothers.

I am Balabukh too.
All my family was born in Makuniv village,Lviv region,Ukraine.
My grandfather's name was Mykola Pavlovych Balabukh(or Balabuch or Balabuh).
My father's cousin- Ivan Balabukh lives in Horodok,Lviv region,Ukraine.
I know a lot of Balabukhs.:)

I am from Balabuch family.
They come from villiges of Makuniv or Shesherovychi,Lviv region,Ukraine.
The name Nowosad also comes from there,I remember hearing it from relatives.

My father was born in Molodych (molodycz) in 1932 (he is currently living in Pennsylvania). His entire family was forcibly moved in 1947 to Eastern Poland and he escaped to West Germany in 1948.

I'm new at this. Have gotten back to my paternal great grandparents Michael and Anna Bala. Children were Walter (my grandfather) Olga and John, who are all deceased. Place of birth was Poland, but language spoken was Ukranian. They lived in Detroit/Hamtramck. I remember some family talk years ago that they originally came through the Hamilton, Ontario Canada area. Also have a distant memory of an uncle who was a priest, I think in Canada. Would love to hear from anyone who may have a family link!

He married Martha (unknown surname) and had 6 children; Louis, Celia, Edward, Raymond, Barry(? unreadable on document), and Bernard (my maternal grandfather). I obtained this information on the 1920 Census in Dorr, Michigan. I also know at the time of this sensus Walter's brother, Felix, was also living with him. Felix was born in Poland as well abt 1897. Hello - I am another descendant of the Bala family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My g-grandfather was Albert Bala who was married to Hattie (Hedwig) Derlinga. I have tried to research their place of origin, but I have not been successful. My aunt told me that she thought they came from Przesmyl, in southern Poland. (The reference was alway to Galicia.)

Right family, just a different branch. I've found sometimes following the siblings and other relatives of whom I am really searching for often leads me to the right place. This Bala/Bailey thing has really sent me scurrying so if I can help ANYONE not have to struggle like I have, it's worth it.

Suggestion for "matching up" our BALA's and BAILEYs

I don't work for the website I'm about to plug here, but it is similar to Rootsweb's "World Connect" with one big difference.

It is called GenCircles and will not only allow you to upload your family gedcom, but will MATCH IT UP with other uploaded files and provide you with a list of individuals who are also in someone elses file. You can then view your data and the other persons SIDE BY SIDE to see if you have the same person in common. I think if we all uploaded our gedcom file there, we could sort out a lot of these BALA lines a lot quicker and match up with others working the same group.
