First off let me say that I never realized how many Balabans there are all over the place.
Anyway, I'm 3rd generation Balaban, and the only info I can give to any and all distant relatives is that my great-grandfather's name was Harry and that he was one of 21 siblings. He came from Russia (the town name slips my mind) and among the 21 were a few sets of twins (this info from my grandmother). Recently I took a class here at Syracuse about the history of televison and was surprised to see my last name in one of the textbooks, so when I asked my grandmother about it the response I got was really cool: Barney Balaban (of the movie business) was a first cousin to my great-grandfather.
Meanwhile, I'm curious if anyone out there knows of a great-granduncle Harry...or better yet if anyone can tell me anything about any of the Balabans on the East Coast, preferably the ones that originally settled in the Brooklyn, NY area.
Any information would be welcomed.
