Hi
Have just came across this by accident and would like to add that I am also a Conetta through marriage my husband is also Paul Conetta.
My father in Law is the last of the older generation at 83 and still going strong. he came from a family of I think 8. We have 4 boys aged (22, 20, 06 & 05months old) therefore the Conetta name here in Scotland will be going on for a few years yet and that is not to mention the cousins. I am sure my husband would love to hear more info about relatives. If you would like to know anything else please feel free to contact me....
Ann C.

Mary Eane Balbo's maiden name was Pellegrina or Eane Pellegrina - Eane was her father's name (Antonio) and Pellegrina (Parma) was her monther's name. Mary was born in Messina, Sicily.

Mary came over from Sicily in 1911 and married Gaetano Balbo in 1913 at Mount Carmel Church in Rochester, NY. Mary and Gaetano moved to Cleveland (don't know when). Gaetano was a shoemaker by trade and died in 1923.

Guiseppe Balbo (Joe) was Gaetano's brother. He was married to 2 of Mary's sisters. First Rosa in 1911 (she died in 1952 in LA), then Antonia (Nina) (don't know year). Nina died in 1971 in LA. The Balbo boys were from Palermo.

Mary came over on the ship called "San Gugliemo" from Palermo, Sicily. Her first job was working in a button factory in Rochester, NY. She took the buttons out of the water and prepared them for painting. All the Italians had to work in 1 area in the factory.

Hope this helps. Please keep in touch. We would love to find out about your family's connection to our family.

That is Jennifer's Great Grandmother (Mary Balbo), and my Grandmother.

That is a great photo.

There is a Rochester connection as Mary worked in Rochester when she first came over from Sicily.

What else would you like to know?

I am replying to your Message re: your roots. While I am not a "Balbo", I am a "Conetta", which would make me related to you on your great grandmother's side. My grandfather, Edward Conetta had two children named Paul and Peter. They each went on to have two girls each. I am the daughter of Paul Conetta. There are no more "Conettas" here in the States but in Sicily there is a whole town that is full of us. I also hear they are all boys (good for us) so the family name will not be lost.
Feel free to e-mail me anytime as i would also like to hear about my own roots. If you are like me, there are only a few of us left and i would like to find out as much about our geneology as possible. I think i have picture of your great grandmother's brothers that i could scan and send. Let me know which format, i.e. gif, tif, etc. is best for your computer.
Hope to hear from you soon.
rayna
