I have a copy of his draft card on my tree which starts my great grandfathers birthday was nov 23 1883. There is an adrs on the draft card for him that I recognize from my mothers stories, so I'm sure my Joseph Balchunas was born in 1883... :0) thanks though

Bummer. No Carlson relatives (only on my husbands side, but that wouldn't count, no relation to Balchunas). I emailed you. If you look to the top right corner of your ancestry.com page, it says messages, so my email is there so your number next to messages should say at least 1 :) have a good night!

Tammy

My great-grandmother was Antoinette Andrukaitis. She married Joseph Skaisgaraitis (Skies) and they lived in the Tripp Park section (Lloyd Street) of Scranton. They had three sons, and later adopted another little boy whose parents had died.

The sons were Frank, Anthony and I believe there was a Joseph. Maybe they were cousins of your Joseph?

I have a great-grandfather, Joseph Balchunas, from Lithuania (he would have been born about 1883). I got an "ancestry hint" that his name may be on another family-tree with a William Balchunas. His daughter (my grandmother), Agnes (Agatha Frances), was an only child. Her parents names were Joseph Balchunas and Margarita/Margret/Madge Praleika. If anybody reading this has a match with these family members, please feel free to contact me on here. Thanks!! ~Tammy

I too am looking for any information on the Adrukaitis family. I wonder if all Andrukaitis' are related?? My grandfather, Vladas Andrukaitis (later called himself Walter) came to the U.S. in the early 1900s from Lithuania. My grandmother also immigrated from Lithuania in the early 1900s. Her name was Magdalina Krivaitis (later calling herself Margaret after she came to this country and married my grandfather). They settled in Cleveland and were married in 1919. Although my surname at birth was Andrukaitis, my father changed our family name to Andrews when I was three years of age. I think other Andrukaitis family members settled in the Chicago area. My grandparents are both deceased and we have no records of any other family members. Thanks for any help.

Hi Sandra,
I am searching for an Anna Andrukaitis married to a Brazietus. This info came from a SS app. She lived in Nanticoke Pa. Father Peter, mother Agnes Smolinski. The app was dated May 1, 1940. DOB Oct. 28, 1892. I also have a John E. Andrukaitis, carpenter who signed Pete Brazaitis naturalization in 1922. There is also someone else who is searching the Andrukaitis name from Scranton. Email me directly at jsc5069@aol.com
Jeanne

Hi Katy,

Hope you are not too rushed on your project because there are lots of ways for you to find information on your Lithuanian family.

I too was searching for a family who pronounced their surname just like your Balchunas family. The Lithuanian spelling for my family was BALCIUNAS but it is pronounced like Balchunas. Using Lithuanian fonts, in my family surname, there is a happy face smile over the "c" and the
"u".

With the help of all the wonderful family researchers online I located my family. You will receive help too, I am sure.

Can you give us a little more information to help us in assisting you? Where did the first Lithuanian Balchunas family arrive and settle in the USA? Can your mom and dad give a birth date for your grandparents? Can they tell you where they were born and raised in Lithuania? Do your parents know what religion your grandparents chose?

Those are just a few questions we would have for you, and don't get discouraged if you can't get all the answers. We hardly ever get it all at the beginning.

I wish you lots of luck with your project, keep us posted on how you are doing with it.

With Kind Wishes

Mary Strovink Daukas
strovink@frazmtn.com

Hi Elaine,
I was from Centralia. Don't know if our Balchunas families are related or not....as you know, we were protected from the 'family secrets'. My grandmother was Marcella Sadusky Balchunas; her husband being Stanley. She lived in Mt. Carmel, Phila, and Ashland. It was an arranged marriage that didn't work out. Stanley split for New York around 1930. Know Stanley had a twin Isadore, and brothers Charles, Paul and John; as well as a sister Casmiere. Can you help? I also responded to Anny's posting. BSKPA@aol.com
