Classification: Query
I pulled this Civil War pension file from the National Archives in Washington D.C.
Hopefully it will be of use to someone on this board.
William F Baldwin Co I 6 KY CAV
Widow: Milly A Baldwin
Widow Certificate # 139501
Soldier died in the General Hospital No. 7 in Louisville, Kentucky on 30 Jul 1863 due to Phthesis? Pulmonalis (Bronchitis and Pneumonia). There are two letters in the file to wife Milly informing her of this death.
Pension lists Children under 16 and age at which payments will commence, NOT BIRTHDATES:
William M - 29 May 1872
Amos R Chillis - 5 Mar 1874
John F - 28 Feb 1876
Joseph - 23 Nov 1877
*Elsewhere in file, son William M is noted as William Miller, born 30 May 1856, Amos R Chillis is listed as Amos Arcillis born 6 Mar 1858, John F born 28 Feb 1860, and Joseph was born 24 Nov 1861 according to date given above when children reach 16 years of age.
There is also a Letter from the Bartholomew County Welfare Department, Columbus, Indiana (dated July 29, 1936) that notes a son John Frank Baldwin who received pension payments for his father William Franklin Baldwin.
According to file, William Franklin Baldwin married wife Milly 21 Aug 1855.
Milly died 23 Apr 1901 in Taylor Co, Kentucky.
*My notes are really sketchy....I had very little time so if you don't already have this information, ordering the entire pension file may prove quite useful and provide much more information.
