I'm looking for records on any of the slaves that Andrew Ballentine had. I've been able to trace my line to the possibility of Andrew or one of his sons, being the slave owner. If you have these records, or know of any way I might be able to retain some information (journals, diaries), that would really be helpful in completing mt search.
Thanks
Jacki Miller

Balentine, Giles County, TN - slave records

I am researching my heritage of the Balentine line. I have found 3 Balentines in question who were prominent men. Normally prominent men kept diaries or journals of their slaves.
Andrew M. Balentine - father immigrated from Ireland.
William F. Balentine - son of Andrew M.
Andrew J. Balentine - son of Andrew M.

These are the only Balentines I've been able to find who had slave schedules in the Giles County area.

My great-great grandfather, George Balentine (born 1875 or so), was born in Giles County, TN. According to his death certificate his parents were Sterling and Jane Balentine.

George later moved to Limestone County, Alabama. I've found him on a 1900 census, but this is the earliest census I've been able to find him on.

I have not been able to find an earlier census for Sterling and Jane to be for sure that I have the right people. One census(1880) has a Sterling married to a Rose, but no mention of George.

If any Balentines are connected to Andrew M., William F., and Andrew J. I'd like to see what history you may have been able to find about the slaves they owned. Or if you have a way that might be able to connect me to such information, I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thank-you for your time.

My Laura was born Laura Sue Rogers and married my dad, James Archie Balentine, 25 Aug. 1918. As far as I know, there was no Laura Balentine born to John Balentine and Sarah Culpepper Balentine of South Carolina and later, Wayne County, Tennessee. I can be reached by email at, Tomandpaula@aol.com.
Thanks,

Tom Balentine

Vince, are you still searching the Balentine family? I have just begun the quest and am stuck at John Balentine (1784) married Sarah A (Culpepper) (1788)who were from South Carolina and moved to Wayne County, District 10, Post office in Cypress Inn, Tennessee in the l830's. They had at least two children, William J. (1813) and Benjamin Simmons (8/11/1833). The dates between these two indicate potentially many siblings. Would like to hear from you. bjbalentine@msn.com

I have info on John(1784) & Sarah A. Cullpepper(1788) there is a story posted on Sarah about how they traveled to Wayne County from SC in the early 1830's. Eldest son, William J. (1813) married Sarah A. Darby and had 7 children. I also found a youngest son Benjamin Simmons Balentine (8/11/1833). To date I havn't found other siblings. Do you have anything prior to John and Sarah (Culpepper) Balentine?

Hi!

I hope you are still checking this site as I lost my bookmark when my computer went down and I just found my old thread. Could you send me some pictures of Jeffy so I can see if he is the same? Sounds so exciting to find family as I really do not have any information and my father does not seem o know too much as he lost contact a very long time ago.

Jeff jabber98052@yahoo.com

John W. Balentine (1841 - ?)

Looking for parents/siblings of John W. Balentine, born in North Carolina in 1841. Don't know when or where he died, but am assuming North Carolina sometime after 1880.

His wife Mary R. was born in 1842 in North Carolina. They had 5 children born between 1866 and 1880.

Their 2nd was William Lee Balentine (my great-grandfather) born in December, 1868 in Ferrell, Nash County, North Carolina. He died before 1920. His wife was Tullie (Tully?) McAnear, born 13 Feb 1874 in Texas. Tullie died 14 April 1954.

Their other children were:
Bettie P., born about 1866
Julius A., born Dec. 1871
Mary L., born about 1874
Lilian W., born nov. 1880

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry as to not answering this sooner. I know what it is like to sit and wait and wait and wait. But, chances are that Jeffy Lee is your grandfather. This would make me your cousin, I believe. Raymond Leon is/was my father and Jeffy Lee was his father. There are not many around anymore to gain information from.

Samuel Lee, who was Jeffy Lee's father, migrated here to the states from Ireland in about 1903. Pictures are just a handful, but I do have some. One of Jeffy and 3 or 4 of my dad.

Please e-mail me back with whatever info you have, how you believe they connect, and I'll see what I can fill in for you. I have found 2 of my sisters and 3 brothers through this bulliten board. Would truly love to find more of my family!

Maybe a coincidence?
I have been trying to learn about my father's side for quite a while. I just came across your thread and decided to ask for some more information. My father's name is Jimmie Lee Balentine and I know that his father's name is Jeffy Balentine. I understand that he was a cold miner from W. Virginia and that my Grandmother passed away when my Dad was three or so. I am wondering if Jeffy Lee (I believe that he passed away in the late 1960s) is my Grandfather...

Please email me if you have any information.

Thank you.

I think your Jesse Balentine was my great-grandfather. His wife was Avis Balentine. They lived in Fifty-Six and Mt. View, Ark. If you still have this picture, or any other info. please reply.
Thanks
