peter had a brother jacob maybe 1/2 brother-farther joseph bales.
peter was living with jacob in the 1880 census in detroit.
i got joseph name from jacob death certificate.

hi, my great great grandpa was riley tow who was originally came from bucombe n.c, but lived in missouri before ending up in tennesse then warren county ky, he married my gg grandma narcissa tabor who was of cherokee descent, they had a daughter named mary tow. is this possibly your mary tow.her birth was 1844.

There are 14 Bales listed in the Guion Miller index from Kentucky, tennesee and indian territory. the guion miller applications were filled out around 1907-1909 by people seeking to be recognized as cherokee. they have a lot of information about the applicant and their parents grandparents, siblings and children. You can access the index at the national archives website and order copies of the applications if you find your ancestors name. My grandfather was a Bales but my cherokee ancestors were all in my maternal line, not on the Bales side

Henry Taylor was married for a second time on October 22, 1884 in Russell County to Rebecca Low. Rebecca was born in Tazewell Co. abt. 1862.

Notes for Mary Hicks Smith:
Mary was referred to in some files I have found as "Jennie Bell". Mary died giving birth to twins. Mary was alive when the 1880 census was taken, so she must have died shortly after that as Henry Taylor remarried in 1884.

Children of Henry Bales and Mary Smith are:
i. Cora Bales.
ii. Charles E. Bales, born 1870.
iii. Henry Kelly Bales, born May 1872; married Rebecca Unknown.
iv. Virginia "Ginny" Bales, born 1874.
v. Tom Bales, born 1874.
Notes for Tom Bales:
I think his full name may have been James T. Bales, according to census records.

vi. Everett M. Bales, born 1877 in Va.; married Linnie ?.
6 vii. John Floyd Bales, born February 22, 1880 in Va.; died September 21, 1947 in Raven, Va; married Alta Virginia Hurt August 07, 1903.
viii. Balford Bales, born April 01, 1882.
Notes for Balford Bales:
Balford worked in the home of a couple named Sparks in Swords Creek at the time of the 1900 Census. The census shows his birth date as April 1885. This conflicts with the March 1885 birth date of Ollie.

ix. Molly Bales, born March 04, 1884.
x. Ollie Bales, born March 1884.
Notes for Ollie Bales:
The 1900 Russell Co, Va. Census shows Ollie working in the home of John and Elizabeth Clark, an elderly couple in Swords Creek. She was 15 years old at that time.

I have an old newspaper clipping my Dad saved from The Detroit Free Press back in Jan of 1947. Three University of Michigan students around a new type of "juke box" a juke-box washing machine. Richard Bales of 14046 Coyle, Detroit and Jerry Ryan and Heinz Hoenecke. Dad underlined Richard's name so it must mean he knew him.

My dad was Lavern E Bales, his dad was Joel Bales b. 1857 Illinois? both parents according to 1900 Illinois census were of Ohio. At that time he was married to Ada with 3 kids, Nellie, Mamie, Edward.
Joel married my grandmother Jane Charity Broome in Canada where they lived until moving to Idaho.

Notice that one line of BALES seems to go back to a John BEALS and Sarah BOWATER.
At least on a couple of data files on www.rootsweb.ancestry.com and also on www.ancestry.com.
DO NOT KNOW if this is correct or NOT.

BUT possibly if there are any male BALES and or BEALS around that seem to be related, at least by a paper trail, would and might prove useful for all on this thread.

I did find 6 other present day male MILLS who seem to match on DNA markers with my male MILLS descendant.

My Aunt Martha Mae MILLS B: 1920 Ohio married Indiana Eugene Edgel BALES and his line seems to go back to this BEALS/BOWATER couple.
That is IF all of what every one has posted/shared "out there" on the Internet is true and valid.

Our MILLS were of Ohio and Indiana. As far as I know at least on our MILLS, the one side, if mostly of England origins.
On other sides, are of Germany, and ?

He was married to Susan Howell in Tenn I'm guessing since almost all kids are from the area. They had a son Jesse Bales born about 1844. Jesse married Elizabeth Pratt and they had a son name Britton or Britt Bales born 1878 and he married Annie Smith. They had a daughter named Minnie Bales. Minnie is my great grandmother. I am searching for information on Cisley Bales and her sister Elizabeth Bales.
Cisley W. Bales was born in March of 1860 to John Alexander Bales and Eda Howell. She married Lewis Joseph Shadoan.

Her sister Elizabeth E Bales was born in July 1866. She married David Poynter.
These ladies were younger sisters to my great grandfather. They both had several children. We cannot find out when or where Cisley died. I would love to hear from these ladies descendants. I am hoping there may be some pictures of them some where.
I can share information on the family with anyone who might be interested.

From my mother's side, there's Donna A. Bales (maiden name). Her parents were William J Bales and Beverly Jan Schlehuber. William J. Bale's parents were Henry J. "Hank" Bales and Roberta Pauline "Bobbi" Stewart. I've not been able to go past that yet.

Its been so long since I researched the Bales line (and my files are all stored away now). I'm not sure if I found an Enoch Bales. My husband was Mayo R. Bales; his father was Lester Lee Bales; his father was William King Bales; and I'm not sure now who his father was. I seem to remember a Charles Bales. Lester Bales said there was Indian blood in the family, but I could never find it. He said it was Cherokee. His daughter, Charylene Bales Skaggs said she heard it was another tribe...Iroquois, she had heard. I wish I could find the Indian connection because my daughter would love to know what it is. Sorry.

In retrospect I should should never have posted the bit about Eden's daughter. I have personal hand-written notes pertaining to the marriage bonds of Eden's daughters Phoebe and Mary and this information is available on the web.

But once when I was doing a web search for something else altogether I unexpectedly came across a mention of someone requesting that Eden Bales sign the marriage permission of their daughter since he was her actual father. I assumed that it was either Phoebe or Mary (I didn't remember their names at the time) and made a note to come back to that site. But I lost the note and have been unable to relocate the site.

Eden died in Clay Co. in 1812 and I have noted the Clay county record book containing that information elsewhere in this forum, possibly this very thread. I never sent off for copies of that record, but it should be available to researchers.

Alexander was the administrator of Eden's estate (in 1816 I believe) which would be logical if Alexander was his son.

I know that Alexander moved to Clay Co, KY six or eight years before Eden moved there from Lewisberg, (W)VA.

Eden signed the marriage bond of James Bales and Rebecca Bracken in 1785, so I assumed that Eden was James' father.
But is is also possible that Eden was his uncle and that James' father was dead.

I know of Eden's son Eden, Jr. who married Naomi Lambert in 1804,his daughter Phoebe who married Samuel Paul 28 Dec. 1795 in (W)VA and his daughter Mary who married John Poage 31 Oct. 1796 in (W)VA.

I don't think Alexander and James were brothers since their children married each other and since first cousin marriages, though not unheard of were rare. If Eden was James' uncle instead of his father, then James and Alexander would be first cousins instead of siblings (that is, if Alexander is the son of Eden). That would make their children second cousins and second cousin marriages were not uncommon.

We do know that there was a Hannah Bales in Greenbrier Co. in 1781 whose husband had either died or left her and her children. Since James and Rebecca named one of their children Hannah that suggests that she might have James' mother.

All of this is very speculative and I have gone on at too great a length.

My maternal grandfather was Emmett Bales. He would have been a young man during WW1. I found a draft enlistment at a court house in Va. Unfortunately, I don't know if he was actually in the service. My husband's name is George Carson Bales. He was born in Dana, In. in 1920. He retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Col., serving as a bomber pilot during WW11 and is now living in Birmingham, Al.
He was a Disney artist after the war and served at the Pentagon for 12 years, heading up the art collection of military art for all branches of the military. He is the author of, "Earnie Pyle, A Hoosier Childhood". This information may help other Bales' ancestry search. (one brother, Jack Truitt Bales, deceased 4/26/2011 in Manhatten Beach, Ca)

enoch china bales was my great-grandaddy samuel bales' brother. they married sisters, mary e. and sarah c. umbarger. all are buried in wassum cemetery, atkins, virginia, or at least , the headstones are there indicating burial.i have photos of the headstones. i have heard the story as to how the three brothers were coming down off the mountain from the sawmill they owned, coming to make the final payment on the mill and they were robbed and enoch china was shot and killed. that is family lore from the great-grandson of enoch china bales, donald lee bales who lives in atkins, virginia below the cemetery.

Enoch China Bales was my Great Grandfather x2, He was living in the Ceres, VA area. He was shot and robbed in Groseclose, VA and died in Marion, VA. He was buried on the homestead near Ceres.

No. My grandfather was Edgar Julius Bales and he spent his life in Ga and Tn. I have been unable to find information on his parents either. Sorry I couldn't help you.

He is my GG Grandfather. He married Ada and she gave birth to my Great Grandfather Otha Napolean. The ended up in Latah County, ID. Thanks

Do you have any info on Edward M. Bales? He was born in Lucas County, Iowa in 1870/71. He later married Ada and moved to Latah County, ID. He is my GG grandfather. I cannot find who his parents are for sure.
