Mary Ann/Marion Pendergast came to NY from England in 1890...likely from Oldham, maybe Liverpool..somewhere in Lancashire.
Hope that all is well.
Cathy

I am searching for information on Rose Balinski. I believe she was an orphan. I have no other information on her parents or siblings (if she had any siblings). I do know, she married Joseph Petrous, and they lived in the Detroit (St Clair Shores) area of Michigan. They had the following children: Rosemary, Marvin, Larry, Norman and David.

Rose was born April 6, 1915 and passed away March 3, 1985.

Thaddeus Polakowski was my father. Does this match with any information that you have? Just wondering if this is the same person as the birthdate I have for Josephine was 1889. If she is the same Josephine, do you know when she immigrated to the US? Thanks for any help you can give me and hope this info is of use to you.

Marion Balinski is listed as Marie's daughter.I think Marion Balinski may have died in 2001 according to SSDI..it was issued in RI? Anyway..other names tied in would be McLoughlin, Pendergast, Prendergast..also Woodbridge, New Jersey..Manhattan..Bronx, NY...Morris Plains?
Thank you!
Cathy

Hi Joe, I promise I am simply hunting for my roots!
Here is the long and crazy tale, with the Balinski part at the end.
My Grandma was Florence Patterson. Florence's mom was Ada Taylor -Patterson.Ada taylor Patterson's mom was Annie Ratcliffe Taylor, born in SCO.Annie married a Mr. Taylor. They had a daughter Ada born around 1881 ish in the UK.Mr. Taylor died. Little Ada went to live with relatives in England (where?). Annie Ratcliffe Taylor left for the USA-NY. She met and married a William J. R. Patterson. Ada was sent for. Ada travelled with an older relative who married a McLoughlin. That was all I knew. That was all anyone knew, and it was based on oral tradition, not paper work.
I knew that in my Grandma Florence Patterson's highschool autograph book she had a signature signed"Your loving Cousin, Catherine McLoughlin". I was looking again at Annie Ratcliffe Taylor Patterson's funeral receipt that a car was sent for a Mrs. Suchy. I was then able to find a Marion and Catherine McLoughlin residing with Joseph and Marie Suchy in Woodbridge. Oh, Florence was born in Mount Vernon, NY, but moved with family to Woodbridge, NJ prior to her marriage there in 1932.One of the witnesses at her marriage was Catherine leeson, whom some think was related.I sent for Marie Suchy's Social Security application..where daughter Marion Balinski is mentioned.I was able to track down a Robert McLoughlin residing with William JR Patterson in 1898....I was able to find fireman Robert and Marion McLoughlin in various cenuses, then it was like they disappeared.I tracked down some birth certs for their kids which names Marion's maiden name as Prendergast.Marie Suchy's application supports that, though Marie spelled it Pendergast. I am just trying to figure out the whole England/ Uk connection.I am just tracking my roots.
Have a great day!If you can help fill me in, I would love it! Ada died young..and there were many secrets.
I would like to know where in England...
Thanks!
Cathy

Hi Joe,
I am so sorry to be a bother! But hey, what have I got to lose?If you check out the genforum message boards you will see that I have been searching on the web for answers to my Ratcliffe/Taylor ancestors since 1998.So, I am just so excited to find someone alive that may have some answers.I do not know if you use a genealogy program like Family Tree Maker or not, so either these answers are at your finger tips...or not.Maybe in a pile somewhere.I have had some recent good luck sending for birth, etc. records.I am at an impasse, however. If I knew some things I might know where to start searching next.
So, here goes:
When did Marion McLoughlin nee Prendergast die?
Where is she buried?
Was there a family church?St. James RC Woodbridge,NJ?
When did Marie Suchy nee McLoughlin die?
Where is Marie Suchy buried?
(I can't find burials for my Annie or Ada)
Where in England is family from?
Does Patricia Leeson, daughter of Catherine, remember my granparents Flo and Tom?Catherine was a witness at their wedding.
I want to send for various certificates, though some need exact dates.
I am trying to find McLoughlin records, but there are soooo many.Did any of Marie , Marion and Catherine McLoughlin's siblings marry? To whom?
What happened to the McLoughlins?I have been searching ancestry for them, but to no avail. Why are Catherine and Marion McLoughlin living with Joseph and
Marie Suchy?
I can't find their parents for the same census year.Did they move out state?Re-marry?I can't find them in either 1920 or 1930, but Robert and Marion McLoughlin should be alive at that time going by their age.
I am trying to find Allen Leeson in censuses but I having no luck.
I am sorry for bombarding you with questions....
Very sincerely,
Cathy
sassycj@prodigy.net

Yes, I am pretty sure Catherine married a man named Allen Leeson. As a kid, which was the last time I saw him, I called him Uncle Allen. He was a good and very funny guy as I remember. I just got back from a 10 day vacation so I will start looking into things.
Take Care,
Joe

After my mother died i was going through the piles of papers she had and I remember seeing the name Pendergast. It will take me a week or so to find the papers I kept of my mothers so have some patience. I will contact my Aunt Pat and ask her what she knows and if you can contact her. My Aunt Pat is Catherine's daughter. The last time I spoke with her was at my mom's viewing. She's a very nice woman and I bet she would know quite a bit about this stuff. I also have another Aunt (at least that is what I call her) who will have information.
I'll be in touch - be patient, my life is a busy place.

Balinski

Hi Donna,
I havent been able to go back any further than my great grandparents, Joseph Balinski and Catherine Rafalska. Did Felix Balinski have any brothers that you know of?
Sadly, Joseph and Catherine died when they were in their twenties, and their children are now deceased (my grandmother Eugenia aka Jean). My gmother and her brother were then raised by an elderly aunt? and uncle? (could be a family friend...) I know Eugenia was christened and baptised in Chicago Ill. However, my mother recalls a town in Wisconsin called Nekoosa. Im not sure if after her parents passed, they were then taken there by the aunt and uncle. (My grandmother was only 9 at the time) Eugenia's brother was George. He was a bookbinder.
On Eugenia Balinski's birth/baptismal record there are two names of sponsers that you may/may not be able to place. They are:
Francis Pinkowski and Frances Gruss.
Again, finding any links to this Balinski family has been rather difficult. So if you do or dont come across anything, please let me know.
I am waiting for a response from the church where my grandmother was baptised in 1908, St. Hedwig Church, 2226 N Hoyne AVe, Chicago, Ill. They were going to do a little research on Joseph Balinski and Catherine Rafalska. Ill let you know if I find anything.
I did come across a William Balinski in PA Census records, where it was said he was a saloon keeper. Maybe you can make a connection.
Good Luck on your search!
Keep in Touch.....
Sincerely,
Michelle Fucarino

Hi Donna,
Your family history sounds so interesting! I too am dealing with an "adoption". My grandmother, Eugenia Balinski, was "adopted" by a relative....now making the research more difficult. The Stella you mentioned, is of interest to me. My grandmother had a relative, Stella Prince, a cousin (?). She married someone with the last name Prince. Does this name sound familiar? She lived in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY.This is where my family moved in the early 1970's. When my gmother came to visit, from Long Island, NY, we always visited a relative, Stella Prince. I believe she was cousin. My mom and her sisters, dont know the exact relation. She died in the 1980's. There was another relative who also lived in Poughkeepsie, Lee Straley. It is believed she was Stella's cousin. She is still alive, living with a son in California.
Let me know if you can make a connection.
Thanks!
Michelle
