My grandfather was conceived out of wedlock. His father's name on the birth certificate was "Rob Balis". I was wondering if anyone has any information on a Rob Balis, or Balis in general in the area of Glouster, Ohio around 1926. Every time i get a lead the trail runs dry, Ohio is a very frustrating state to research in. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is this the John Balis who died 1789, Cairo, Greene Co. NY? I believe he may be a brother to my ancestress, Sarah Bailes/Balis/Baylis/Bayliss who married Nathaniel Miles/Mighells 1762 in Brimfield MA.

Elizabeth Balis Peake filed a Revolutionary War pension based on the service of her deceased husband, Christopher Peake. Elizabeth says her brother-in-law was Nathaniel Miles, who married Elizabeth's sister. I have identified this family (mine) and have concluded this is Nathaniel Miles (Mighill/Mighell/Mighells) who marred Sarah BAILES in Brimfield MA on 12/30/1762. Elizabeth further states Samuel Thompson was a brother-in-law. I can make no Balis connection here, so assume Samuel Thompson must have married Christopher Peake's sister. I have also run across the name of Luther Balis in the general area of these folks and am looking to make some Balis/Baylis/Bayliss/Bailes connections.

Good morning, I am looking for info on this Aaron Pritchett (Pritchard). He is suppose to be the father of my 2 great Grandfather Samuel. Do you have more info on Aaron and his son Samuel? I am trying to find out a death date and place for Samuel and his wife Nancy. The last census I found him in was 1880 in Clay, Ritchie County, W.VA. He must have left Independence, Washington County, Ohio after the 1870 census and before the 1880 census.

If you have any info that might help me, please let me know.

I went to your site which was interesting. I noticed that there wasn't much information on Daniel and Louisa. Have you found out any more information?

I couldn't help but notice a number of my same surname lines: Cunningham, Leavitt, Sinclair/St Clair. Not that we are necessarily kin in anyway, but would be interesting to see if you have the following in your line/information:
J E (Josiah) Cunningham (he was the first husband of my great-aunt, Emma Stanfield--married in 1870 Georgia)

John T St Clair/Sinclair born abt 1850+ in either Arkansas, Texas, or Alabama (my g-grandfather whom we believe married three times and spent most of his time in Texas or Oklahoma.

Any of the Leavitts living at and moving to New Hampshire, Utah, California, Texas, and New Mexico. (My grandmother Nancy Eliza Leavitt married my grandfather Fredrick Perry "Fred" Thomas. She died in New Mexico in 1918). I do have a lot of information on her. Her family came from New Hampshire to California (maybe via Utah) where she was born. They then moved to a southern state (I can't recall right now). She married Fred Thomas in Texas--he was born in Illinois, moved to Arkansas with his parents and then on to Texas. He spent most of his life in Texas and New Mexico.

But mostly I am interested in the children of Daniel C and Louisa (Cunningham) Balis. My great-great grandmother was (I am 90% sure) was named Adaline C/Eliza A C B_______ --which may be Balis (at least near that). She married a Mr. Stanfield (who 'may' have been named Joseph)in about 1851. I do have information from USGenWeb Pike Co, GA marriages (Bride's index (A-F)which can be consistant with the birth of their twin girls (Ella and Emma)in abt 1852 and their son William F--my grandfather--in 1855.

Just before or just after William F's birth, Mr. Stanfield has passed away/left and Eliza marries Zachariah Jordan. By the 1860 Neshoba Springs, Mississippi, Eliza and Zachariah have 2 children together as well as a son of his first marriage and the Stanfield children living with them. Zachariah dies (Civil War?) and by the 1870 census, the family--minus Zachariah and his oldest son--are back in Georgia and the twins--living with Eliza are now married--Emma to Josiah/JE Cunningham.

I guess I'd like to know if you have anything along this line concerning Daniel C. and Louisa Cunningham Balis. I have hit several brick walls concerning Eliza and "Joseph" and can get no further back with either.

I just noted your request for info re Luther Balis. I regret that I don't have anything to add. I found Luther listed in an early census for Albany Co., NY (now Columbia Co.), I think it was the 1800 census.
I have been searching for info re Elizabeth Balis, born abt. 1750, Albany Co., in Kinderhook Twp. When I noted Luther's entry, I guessed he might have been Elizabeth's brother. No documentation -- just that his was the only name I found there at that time. Elizabeth mar. abt. 1769, Chatham, NY, to Christopher Peake. Elizabeth died in Steuben Co. in 1839, having requested her late husband Christopher's pension payments. Their son David lived in Schoharie, NY, died in Ohio. It is the Peak(e) side I am compiling.
Sorry I can't provide further info. Is there a Balis association or historian who might have more on this family?

Looking for decendents of Katie Balis Schwartz. She married my 3rd Gr Uncle Joseph "George" Schwartz in Perry County, IN on Feb 24, 1903. I have only found 1 record for children - a daughter Margaret Schwartz born Feb 23, 1904 died Mar 1, 1904. They lived in Evansville, IN after Margerets death. Joseph George went back to Perry County with his parents and died Oct 27, 1912. His death record still listed Katie as his wife at the time of his death and he was buried in Evansville, IN. I am hoping there are children other than Margaret from this marriage. It is highly likely that Katie remarried after Josephs death. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Rosemary
