I am not sure at this point now if I have the correct Kiefer. "My" Mathilda Kieffer's parents were:

Anthony Nickolaus Kiefer and Margaretha Schmidling.

Mathilda was born: 07 Aug 1860 and died: 07 Nov 1925
place born: Lima, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin
place died: Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

George Helmut Baller and Mathilda Keiffer were my grandparents. They were married on July 6, 1916 in Random Lake, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin. George's parents were Henry and Clara (full name: Ottilie Clara Bertha Schorsch). Henrys parents were August and Augustine (nee Bunde). Henry emigrated to the US in 1895 with George who was about 7 years old at the time. Mathilda was born in Random Lake. George and Mathilda were married on Mathildas fathers farm.
I have much more information. Please let me know what your connection to George and Mathilda is.

MAXWELL JOHN BALLER Of North Hollywood, California, passed away October 19, 2006, at the age of 93. Max was born on November 13, 1912 in Beach, North Dakota, to John Baller, Jr. and Anna Tettambel. He graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1931. Max served in the Naval Reserve from 1933 to 1937, and in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 where he served as Chief Radioman on the USS Edsall. He was an amateur radio operator since 1934, "W6GWP". Max worked for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power from 1935 until his retirement in 1973. Max married Dorothy Jo Coddington on May 10, 1942; she preceded him in death in June 1993. They were members of the Order of Eastern Star, Westwood Hills Chapter 476 where they served as Worthy Matron and Patron, Van Nuys Chapter 338 where Max served as Worthy Patron in 1996, 1998, and 2004. He received the Service Award in 2001. Max was a member of Van Nuys Masonic Lodge #450, he received the Hiriam Award in 2000, and Van Nuys Royal Arch #135. Maxwell is survived by his brother, Robert of Santa Paula, California; his daughters, Karen Schuyler (Phil) of Adelanto, California, and Jerryl Larsen (Larry) of Lake Isabella, California; grandchildren, Wess Schuyler (Stephanie) of Crestwood, Kentucky, Jennifer Buss (Daryl) of Parker, Colorado, and Dana O'Reilly (Jeff) of Laguna Niguel, California; and great grandchildren, Brittnee Schuyler, T.J. Schuyler, Whitney Schuyler, Margo O'Reilly and Ethan Buss. Max will be remembered by all as a good and kind man who loved a joke and was always there to help when needed; and his reading of nutrition labels on all his food. Interment will be private with a memorial service at a later d ate.

My great-great grandmother is Henriette von Ditfurth who married Friedrich Harnickel and lived in Hof Hählgans bei Hersfeld, Prussia (area also know as Hesse-Cassel); I have a Ditfurth connection in Germany from whom I am waiting information.

It is my understanding that most probably there was a "von" in front of the Ditfurth/Dittfurth name in America. Originally an aristocratic family in Hesse. Also a famous regiment in the American Revolutionary War (the Hessian von Ditfurth Regiment). I am awaiting information from a family member in Germany who has some in-depth.

regarding edmundrobert Baller could possibly tell if you know of his age when he was residing in co. cork Ireland? i have an edmund robert baller but he was not born in ireland. i also have the complete gro refs. to all Baller's in the uk 1837-1990 that i have copied out myself. i would be very grateful for any information you may have on him as i am also following him up. many thanks

many thanks for your reply.edmund robert baller was born early 1911 kings norton,worcester,england. he married florence mary day born ,25/4/1904 sittingbourne,kent. they were married in her home parish of sittingbourne .full certificate ref. is as follows;
vol.2a page 3483 june quarter 1945 sittingbourne,kent.
must have emigrated after this date.you are the 2nd person as well as myself to ask about edmund r.baller if you know of his parents i would be most grateful.also i have details of his possible siblings. brenda

thanks jacqui,you have been a big help.do you know of a tina baller of hamilton n.z. she says her grandfather was edmundrobert the same one who lived in cork ireland. i am also going to try and get in touch with john christopher baller from usa as he is also researching this family .will let you have any news when i get it. do you have email address as when i send you a msg. it also keeps coming back to me.

many thanks Jacqui for your messages! glad to be of any help. i will now take a look in my notes and see what i can come up with on his family. you said edmundrobert's father was definately frank baller born around 1860? i dont want to go chasing up the wrong tree! i would love to know what the connection is to Ireland. where they just passing through or actually lived out there? how long for? the family most certainly came from worcester and birmingham. there was just 11 families or individuals named Baller at the time of the 1881 uk census. will let you more soon. thanks!

It is already very long time ago that we had contact with each other. Last summer I have been on hollidays to Germany, The Harz. That is area were mij great grandfather is coming from. I visit the Father of the Church in Quedlingburg. He found some details of the history of my great great grandmother. I did also tryed to visit another Father in the village were my great great grandfather was coming from. It was for me a pitty that he was on holiday. Further i vist the Church of the Mormones here in Groningen, the town were I live. Yhere I got a lot of information. I have onl;y one problem, I don't know what to do with it. It is difficult to make system for all the names I got.
Probebly I find some of the names were other are looking for.

Your comment about Margaret Baller using her married name....it is very possible as Carl married Margaret (Black) and Lloyd married Margaret Maude (Hall). Will wait maybe something will show up. My gr-grandfather Heinrich Baller had a brother named Herman who had emigrated from Germany to Milwaukee. Herman had a daughter named Margaret. She however would have been born in the late 1800s or early 1900s making her at least 100 years old now. (not impossible, but unlikely)

The Margaret that you refer to may of course been using her married name.

I received an email today from someone who had responded to this web site. I had forgotten all about the original posting that I had made on the site. It had to have been over two years ago! When I went to respond to the email, I saw all of the queries that had been made and recognized several names, including yours. I hope you are doing well!. I hope you have had a "Froliche Weinachten".

Have you had any luck with your research into the Baller name? I have not been able to get too far. The records in the LDS Family history centers do not go far enough back. It appears that the only way I might get anything is to find something in the town of Silesen or Bulgrin or Belgard.

I have however been able to fill in some of my documentation. I found the marriage certificate of my great grandfather, however it raised a couple of questions about my great grandmothers parents.

I've researched my family surname only up to 1840 in Pommern Prussia. I've been having significant problems finding records beyond that time. I can't assume however that there isn't a link to someone in British Islands.

My Gr-grandfather was Albert Henry Baller, but he isnt the one you are looking for. He was born in 1863 in Pommern Prussia. He emigrated to the US in 1895 to first Detroit, then S. Dakota, then Minnesota.

I haven't heard of Walter Baller.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I have heard of the Ballers from the UK from several different people. I will look into my records to see what information I have.

dear andrew, i did send you reply before but here is another one anyway.i have researched your part of the Baller familytree,as i have recorded all entries of all Ballers births,marr.& deaths ect. at the pro from 1837-1992.in the UK . Your grandfather Albert from birmingham had a large family! and you are related to most all the ballers from there ! i have personally written to most of the ballers from b,ham and have had very good results.if you have not moved in the last 5 years then if you dont mind then perhaps i can put something in the post for you ? or you can reply using this msg board. hope to hear from anyone tracing this surname.
