Ballew children with no parents

Do you have Ballew ancestor born either in Kentucky or Tennessee between 1800 and 1825. I have been searching for my Aaron ancestors for many years and believe his parents to be David Ballew and Sarah Sherrill. Aaron and Sarah were both born in NC and married 1800-1803. Then they moved to KY and then to Tennesse. I have never been able to find proof that these are his parents. I have just received a copy of a document from the NC museum which mention their marriage and said that they had 10 children and moved to Tennesee. If you have Ballews's and cannot find parents and they were born in these years and from these states perhaps this is your line also. Lets work together and solve the puzzle.

His siblings were Lily, Mattie, and Jim.
Robert Reasoner Poe and Mary Ross Poe are parents of William Earl, Della Jane who married Claude Dillard, Hester, and Stella. Please email me at tmbrinson@hotmail.com if you have any other info. Thank you.

Carolyn, Thank you for responding. There certainly could be a relation because of us both having Ballew and Poe in our families. My Great great grandmother is Jane Ballew ??? Poe. She was previously married with two daughters before marrying my GG grandfather Marion Poe. Having said this I'm not 100% sure if Ballew is her maiden or first marriage name. Do you know parents of Mary Christina Ballew? I also have a note that other family of Jane's is Homer & Jessie Ballew.

As for Poe's I have a Jim and Hester in different parts of the family. All of this family lived in Mineral Bluff, GA. which is in Fannin County, GA.

I never have been able to view census records of Fannin County. I think that would help.

Tell me more about the Cherokee By Blood Vol. 8 document you refered to. I am part Cherokee, I know from my father's family, and mother's family through her mother. I wouldn't be surprised if Cherokee's are through my mother's father side of the family. Thanks again for taking time to write, hope we can sort this out. Teresia

Have you found any more info on Samuel and Arminda? I am looking for a Samuel who married Callie Davis in 1896. He was born May 1865 according to 1900 federal census. In the death notice it states he had a daughter Leatha but I have never found her with Callie and Samuel. Do you think this could be the same Samuel. Maybe Arminda died before 1896? I am very confused with my Samuel as he has so many different birth dates from 1865, 1868, 1875.....on census records. It also states one of his daughters was Mrs. J. D. Cantrell. I am trying to tie him to Mamie Ethel Ballew who married Benjamin Thomas Cantrell. Mamie is listed as his daughter in 1900 census but is not listed in his obit unless someone got J. D. and Benjamin Thomas very mixed up. There is one other daughter Mandie who could possibly be Mrs. J. D. Cantrell but I have no idea who J. D. is?

I'm not sure if we have family ties or not, but My Great Great
Grandmother was Mary Christina Ballew Keller Meeks. She married William Shelton Meeks, son of Littleton Meeks, on Dec. 18th 1864. She was a widow, left with children from her marriage with Jim Keller killed in the war. She was much younger927) than my GGgrandfather(66) they had two children Thursey Jane Meeks (14) married James R. Poe(Jim). Milton Meeks drown in a mill pond. They lived in Union County
Georgia (Blairsville). We have it list that Mary Christina Ballew(Bellew)Keller Meeks was Cherokee, we also have Cherokee on the Poe side but J.R. Poe was not aware Hester in enrolling agent was in town. This is documented in Cherokee By Blood Vol.8, at the McClung museum in Knoxville, Tennessee. Hopefully we have family ties.Carolyn Howell, shoshana1946@gmail.com

Hi Sue,
Would you have a Chadwick connection in GA or TN?. My GGmother was a Mary Chadwick brn abt 1831 NC/SC? died after 1900. She was living in Andreson Co TN abt 1900 age 69 with my Gfather(her son) John Chadwick brn abt 1860 per the census, but when he died in 1917 he is listed as age 65 so he would have been brn abt 1852. I had a elderly cuz'n who said that the surname Ballew was some how connected, and she had mentioned the names Jame, and McCarty/McCarly/McCravy? from GA or TN. I do believe that Mary also had a son Abraham Abe Chadwick brn abt 1858 GA who married a Thrusee Kimbro/Kimbrough,and she was the 2nd wife of Abe.
Any info would be appreciated.
Roy.
Ballew Family in Arkansas (Murdered in Jackson County)

Hi
My grandfather is Herman Ballew, his family was murdered in Northeast Arkansas when he was 3 yrs old. He knows little about his family. He is the last of his family to live. He and 2 sisters survived, the other two sisters are now deceased. He has heard so many stories, like his family is from Scottsboro Ala, and then there from Rockwall,Texas. He is 80 and not getting any younger, so I have taken on the challenge of helping him find some of his family before he dies. Any help would be great appreciated.

Thanks
Adam

I know they had at least 1 child named Letha Arnese Ballew who is my gg-grandmother. The census records I can manage to find with matching names are confusing and I don't know if they are for the same people. I do know that Armindas maiden name was Ballew as well. Any info. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Email: nra2877@yahoo.com

The marriage records state that she married Gardenhire first but that Ingram "cabbaged" her. (see attached file) I assume this means he "stole her away" but am hoping someone might be familiar with the term.

Nancy's first husband (my gr-gr-grandfather) was Luke Peak and her husband after Ingram died was John Calvin Barger.

Looking to contact anyone with information on this family. Especially the ancestry of Luke Peak.

Nancy J Ballew (b: 1848 in MO)

Nancy J Ballew is my gr-gr-grandmother. I have seen a lot of information online stating that she was married first to Luke Peak in 1869 in Roane County and, second, to a George Barger.

I have just found out that her second husband is actually, John Calvin Barger. They can be found in the 1880 census in District 11, Overton Co., TN (last name transcribed as Boyer on Ancestry). They can be found in the 1900 census in Civil District 10, Cumberland Co, TN.

I believe Nancy died in Roane Co in 1909? and John can be found in the 1910 census in Rockwood, Roane Co, TN with his third wife, Sarah. (John's first wife, before Nancy, was Mahala Stonecipher).

Still trying to sort out a lot of the details but I wanted to share what I have so far in the hopes that it may ring a bell with other researchers. Still not sure what happened to my gr-gr-grandfather, Luke Peak. I believe he may be the son of Louis Peak and Matilda Griffith but I can't prove this yet.

Happy to share info or hear from anyone who may know more about this family.

William Ballew killed by John Foshee

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 5 December 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

BOY BYSTANDER IS KILLED IN ARDMORE STREET DUEL

Ardmore, Oklahoma, December 1 – Luther Ford, 12 years old, was instantly killed, William Ballew, a gambler, was fatally injured, and Smith Redmon, a policemen, received serious wounds as a result to two shots fired by John Foshee at William Ballew in front of Foshee’s store early this evening.

Ballew has 30 buckshot in his body. Both barrels of a shot gun were emptied. The Ford boy was sanding near by and was killed accidentally. Redmon was a half block away. Foshee, who fired in full settlement of an old grudge, surrendered to the authorities. His intended victim fell on the exact spot where Foshee’s brother, Irl, fell mortally wounded at the hands of Ballew in March, 1907.

The Ford boy was the son of J. E. Ford, a farmer and prominent citizen. The boy had come to town with his brother, 14 years old, to sell milk. A pitiful scene followed when the elder brother drove home with a broken heart to bear the news to his parents.
