Hi Kim, I too had a ggrandfather named Peter Balog, though he married an Anna Orosz and they lived in PA and MI. I have come to realize that there were a lot of Peter Balog's coming from Hungary then. Rumor has it that Peter came over with a brother and Anna (his wife) came over with a sister. though I can't seem to find which port they came into. If any of this sounds familiar could you let me know... thank you, Brenda :)

My husbands grandfather was a Balog from Chicago, Illinois area so I am sure you are related. His grandfather ran away from home changing his name to William Cody. We live in Montana but some of his relatives still live in the chicago area his mom is in Van Nuys, California. William was either Cody Balog or William Balog one was his brothers name. Bill passed away as did his son Bob and daughter Dorothy but Nancy is still going strong at 71 or 72. Brian will be 50 this year in March. I have a little info but don't know where Brian put it. His great great great grandfather Peter Balog came to america via boat to Elis Island have that info to but don't know where it got put. Hope this helps a little, Kim

If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm searching for any information on Ida (Balog) Russin b: 10 Oct 1917; d: Oct 1981. She married into my Russin family - Robert Frank Russin. She was the daughter of Steve Balog and Ida (Avery) Balog.

Her husband Frank died in 1984 in Fayette County, PA and I'm guessing that they lived there in 1981 since he was originally from there. Together they have a son Robert E Russin.

Thank you in advance!

Carolyn, Do you have any of their immigration papers? What state do you live in? Can you give me some dates of births for everyone, when they came over from the old country, childrens info anything. With this info you can get INS papers. Sometimes the county they lived in lost them but INS has them. This one woman I met here couldnt get anything on her family county lost and I got it for her via INS. If they came here someone has the papers just gotta figure out who! Joyce my email is jmcarl1@aol.com

Unfortunately I do not know where my grandmother Elisabet Balog) was from, on the ships list for last place of residence it says Hungarian, not much help there. She was traveling to Passaic, NJ (if memory serves, I think she had a cousin there).
My grandfather (Mihaly Koldos (Koldus on the ships records) was listed as Csicser Hungary as Last residence. He was going to see his brother John.
The really sad thing is, my father went with his mother back to Hungary around 1906, and stayed, his grandparents raised him and he didn't come back to the US until 1924. He had all the information that I need, but refused to discuss Europe.. not at all!! What ever he knew, he took with him when he died.
Don't know if this is any help or not.. I had an Aunt Mary (great Aunt I think)..
Carolyn

Ther is a few Bober's families in Blazowa region. You can visit web side of local phone operator http://www.ost.net.pl/index.php?page_id=ikt
You have to write in first window "abonent prywatny", in the next window you have to write surname (nazwisko), next window is name (imie)- you don't have to fill it, next window is place (miejscowosc)- you don't have to fill it, and the last is street (ulica)- you don't have to fill it.
If you would like to find people who have surname Pasciak you have to write the surname with polish soft "s" - you will find the "s" (second "s") in the word "miejscowosc" - place, (fourth window). Ther is no problem with surnames Mnich and Bober.
All the surnames are in Blazowa region from XVII century, mayby even earlier.

Hi
Maybe this information will help you. My ancestrals lived in small town Blazowa. The town is about 15 miles from Rzeszow - a city in south-esat Poland. A few Mnich's families still live in Blazowa. Mayby your grandfather Walter Mnich came to USA from Blazowa and married Julia who came from Blazowa too? There is one problem. No Balog family live in Blazowa but there is many Barlog's families. Mayby there is mistake in word Balog and the surname "lost" letter "r" in USA. Word "Barlog" is wrote in english. It is different wrote in polish because it has two letters which are in polish alphabet only. The different letters are "l" and "o". Form "Barlug" ("u" instead of "o")could be used in past too. This form is incorrect in modern polish but it could be correct it "old fashion" polish.
My grandfather has two brothers who moved to USA (before 1921). They were Wladyslaw Mnich and Kazimierz Mnich. William is probably english form of name Wladyslaw. If you want I can send more information about him.
R.M.

Borbola (Barbara) BALOG

There is a Borbola BALOG on the ship Barborossa which arrived Ellis Island May 31, 1900. She is 17 years, ethnicity Hungarian/Magyar and place of residence is listed as Zanoplen. The village name Zanoplen is a typing mistake. It should read Zemplen, Zemplen Megye, Hungary. Today the village is Zempin, Slovakia. Hope this helps someone in their BALOG research.

My grandmother Zsuzsa (Zsuzsanna=Susan) TIMKO arrived with Borbola BALOG and Gusztov KOZMA, Erzsebet TOTH, Julia PAL and Janos KOVAK or NOVAK on this ship. The destination for all of them is New York City.

If you know anything about my TIMKO, please let me know. She married John Hasak and had a brother Andrew (1879-1929) married Julia Danko; sister Bertha/Borbola {Barbara}(1890-1965) married Peter Dargo; and sister Julia (1892-1969) married Stephen Nagy. They lived in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Mifflin, Munhall, Homestead) area. Thanks.

Mary
