do you know where in Poland your Balon family was from? Do you know when they immigrated and all? My Balon line came over in or around 1890+/-...many settled in Buffalo NY where there is a BIG Polish population. My Great Grandfather Michael Balon settled in Western PA in a small village known as Bingham PA. He was the foreman on the railroad. He also was a carpenter and built his own home, the railroad station, the community catholic church and other buildings in the day. I wish I had taken photos of these buildings when they were still standing or when they were still nice looking. He had a brother named Jan and another brother named Peter. Peter moved near Springville NY and he and his wife lived there for a time. He also worked for the railroad. They could both read and write quite well.
