Hello, I am Edwin (Ned) Wood. I am 55 and live in Astoria, Oregon. My grandparents were Ed & Jessie Balsiger of Alemeda Street in Portland. My mom was Adele Balsiger Wood. I too have a copy of the family tree going back to the 1500s. I have been in contact with Melvin Balsiger a number of times and have been to his home in three occasions. I vaguely remember Dick Balsiger from past gatherings. Possibly Ed & Jessie's 50th anniversary at Ireland's restaurant over by Lloyd Center.
Well my lunchtime is over. Back to work. Feel free to contact me. wood.ned@hotmail.com
It's good to hear from family.

Hi, we are the children of Dick and Bobbie Balsiger, of Portland, both have recently passed on. We have the family tree that dates back to the 1500's in Bern. My Husband, Al Balsiger, and his children Joshua and Rachel Balsiger are the only living decendents in our immediate family with the balsiger name. We would be delighted to know of any other connection in this local area.

James Balsiger (my Uncle Jay) has a son Jeff Balsiger of Medford Oregon. Jeff has a son. And so the name goes on another generation! Beulah my dear Gram died in July, 1996. Between us we will get this right!

I just visited my mother's cousin in Vancouver, WA. He gave me a copy of or branch of the Balsiger's Family Tree. The tree begins in 1570 with the Balsigers living in Koniz ,Switzerland which is kind of a suburb of Bern. The tree branches out into two main family lines in the 1600s. He also gave me copies of land deeds as the Balsigers moved west after coming to the US. I would be happy to share jpeg files of the tree if you would like a copy.

My grandfather was born in Redfield SD. His father was Gotlieb Balsiger married to Nettie. My grandmother was Jessie. They all moved to Portland in the early 1900s. They are all burried in a Balsiger family plot at Riverview Cemetary in Portland. I have heard of
Elmer and the K Falls Balsigers. I heard some moved down there from White Salmon WA. Elmer owned the Ford dealership in K Falls. My grandfather's nephew Melvin balsiger is still in the Portlad area, I believe he's in his 90s now.

My Grandfather was Elmer Henry Balsiger, He was born Dalton or Dolton Illinois in 1880's, he married Mae Riggs. They then moved to Redfield S Dakota. My father was born in 1908 in redfield and lived in Grants Pass, Oregon until they moved to Klamath Falls in 1923. His brothers name was Eston.
Elmer Balsiger had several brothers that came to Klamath falls in the early 1950's for a reunion, but I am not sure of their names. I would like to know Elmers, Father and Mother's name, and also his grand parents name.

Hello! My name is Hans-Jörg (in english John George) Bigler. I live at Lucerne in Switzerland. My grandmothers girl-name was Balsiger. Her place of origin is Mühlethurnen, (County) Seftigen, Berne. Susanna Balsiger does'nt belong to my branch of the family, because her father Christian Balsiger (born 1829 , march 13) married twice (first Johanna Spring from Steffisburg, Berne; 10 children=your branch) and after Johanna's death my ancient Elisabeth (another 4 children=my branch; one daughter emigrated to the U.S. in 1915, descendants in CT). I have informations back to th early 18th century till a certain Samuel Balsiger. If you're interested of informations, you can contact me by mail (haj.bigler@bluewin.ch). Greetings

I asked my brother & sister (both in their 60s) for Balsiger family memories. My sister remembered that our mother had a cousin Richard or Dick Balsiger in portland and that there were also cousins in Klamath Falls. My sister remembers a "Bobby" could have been Roberta Balsiger from that area as well whom vacationed with our family in the late 50s. My Brother remembers that there was a cousin who had a Ford delearship back in the 60s or 70s. I can't remember if it was in Klamath Falls or Medford but it was in Southern Oregon.

I don't recall the names of many of the Balsiger cousins or where they lived. I do remember going to a Balsiger reunion at a home in SE Portland in the mid 70's. I remember that whichever Balsiger it was had installed a swimming pool for his wife to get exercise. There were lots of Balsiger cousins and nephews in attendance. If I run across any more family history that may be of help I will post it. I am attaching a copy of Gottlieb Balsiger's wedding certificate. He was my Great Grandfather.

Hello, I am Edwin Wood. I live in Astoria, Oregon. My mother's father was Edwin Balsiger(Nov 4 1886~Apr 19 1980). He lived three houses East of 24th avenue on Alameda. I believe he moved to Portland from Redfield,South Dakota as a young man. He was married to Jessie Balsiger (March 17 1885~March 22 1974. They are both buried at Riverview Cemetery in a good sized family plot that also has my grandfather's father's & mother's graves, Gottlieb & Nettie Balsiger. There are also some Babcocks in the same family plot. My grandfather had a nephew, Melvin Balsiger who lived at 13609 NE 25th Ave Vancouver, WA 98686. If he is still around he would have to be around 90. I went to his house around eight years ago to have him look at some family photos to help me identify people. He spoke then of the family coming to America from Berne and how he flew over there almost every year and spent a month with the Balsiger family on the Balsiger farm that had been in the family for over 425 years.
My mother was Adele Balsiger and she was the only child of Edwin & Jessie.
I don't know if this helps you out any but it was interesting to find someone who may be a second or third cousin.
Feel free to contact me, I have a brother & sister who may have better memories than I do.
Edwin Wood
