Yes, that is incorrect His wife (Marguerite Dialle)was born in 1714. I have only an open-ended time-line for both of them regarding their deaths......sometime before 1793. That is really open-ended. We know their son Martin was born ab. 1736 so it would be after that. I have no date on the marriage.
Thanks for the correction.

Sorry.... His wife Marguerite Dialle was born 1714. I have only found a very open-ended death time-line for both Jean and Marguerite...somewhere between 1733-1793. But we do know that son Martin was born in 1736 so they both had to have lived after that. I wish I spoke / worte better French so I could research this better.
Thanks for the correction.

Thanks again. Appreciate you laying it out like you did. The south of France legend was interesting. I was born in 52 and live in West Bend, WI about 30 miles north of Milwaukee. Our son lives in the Methow valley and was familiar with the San Juan islands area. Your one son is in Huntsville and we have a godson there. We visit his parents once or twice a year. Interesting connections.

Attached two items. Thought you'd be interested in seeing. Copy of John's obit and a pic of a card given out when he passed.
Thanks again.
Bruce

Bob,
My gggrandfather is John B. Balthazard. My understanding was he came from Germany until I found his obituary that says he was born June1, 1826 in Montreal, Quebec and he came to Boltonville, Wisconsin at age 18. He died May 10, 1906. I've done a little looking around and see there are alot of Balthazards in Quebec. Also your post about the original guy that started it all was interesting. Any help would be appreciated. All I have to do is connect the dots between Martin and John B. Maybe with a little assistance.
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi Bob,

My family is from Martin Balthazor and Sophie Hebert.
Their daughter Emily married Joseph Barlow son of Nicolas Berland and Josephte Roy.

Do you have any documentation (birth, death, marriage records, etc.) of Martin, Sophie, their children, siblings, parents or grandparents, etc.

I believe Sophie remarried to Louis Lebeau on August 9,1842 in Quebec. Which means that Martin Balthazor probably died before that.

I found on a census, Sophie and several of her children lived in Aurora, Kane county, Illinois in Nov. 1850. Later I found several Balthazors in Fond du Lac, WI and in the area around New London, WI.

What I'm looking for are actual records to prove that I'm putting the right children with the right families. Too many of them used the same names over and over again.

If you can help me I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,
Julie Schuh
pschuh@new.rr.com
My husband's grandfather was Jeremy Balthazor of Clyde, Kansas. His grandmother's name was Delphine Hamil Balthazor. Jeremy died in about 1909, and left three children, Beatrice, Alcide and Ovid. Beatrice was his mother. We had a Balthazor reunion two years ago, just of the immediate family.

If your name is Balthazor or Balthazar and your acestors came from Canada, we are all related. it all started with the following man.
The first and the only chief of all the Balthazar families of Canada and United States is Martin Balthazard named Saint-Martin, son of Jean Balthazard Saint-Martin and Marguerite Daille from St. Maurice, Metz, Lorraine, France.
He was one of the five hundred French soldiers who stayed in this Country (Canada) after the conquest by the English in 1760. Martin was a soldier of the Languedock French regiment in the Campagnie De Basrod, in Quebec, Ca.
It's at St-Denis-sur-Richelieu on the 30 June 1761 that Martin Balthazar married Marguerite Joubert daughter of Pierre Joubert/Gouber and Marie-Agathe Jarry/Jary.
The marriage was celebrated by Father Jean-Baptiste Frichet, first curate of St-Denis-sur-Richelieu.

Known to have protected French Canadians against Indian attacks.

Agnes Balthazor, born about 1900-1915 & in New London, WI about 1930 or so

I have a photograph of "Agnes Balthazor", which I would like to get back to family members. Agnes is about age 20, and the photo was taken in the early 1900s (1925-1935+or-), in New London, WI. I see New London is on the Waupaca/Outagamie Co. line. I researched Agnes and one by that name appears in the 1930 Racine Co., WI census as age 16; another (Agnes A.) is shown in SSDI as being born Sep 1902; and yet a third (Agnes Eva) was born Aug 1903. I do not know which one is the one in the photo, but if you would recognize the Agnes in your family and if she lived anywhere near New London, WI, I would be glad to scan the photo for you. Email me at margerice@prodigy.net.

What I was trying to say is this:

Jean Balthazard (born ab 1710, St Maurice, Lorranie, France) is the patriach of the Balthazor family. Married Maguerite Dialle in 1714. Besides their son Martin I'm not sure how many other children they had.

Jean's son Martin Balthazor dit St Martin (born ab 1736, St Maurice France) came to Quebec to fight in the French / Indian War around 1755.

He stayed in Canada after the war and married Marie-Marguerite Joubert in St.Denis, Quebec. They had at least nine children, on of which was Michel Amable dit St Martin (born ab 1776. Michel Amable married Marie-Catherine Kinseler in Notre Dame Catheral, Montreal ab 1790. They had at least 13 children. One of which was Francois B. Balthazor dit St. Martin.

Francocis B. married Catherine-Eleanore Rousseau in St. Marie, Rouville, Quebec in 1824. They had at least fourteen children, all born in Canada with the exception of the last being Angeline who was born in Kanakakee, IL. Of the 14 children Francois Xavior Balthazor (born about 1825) was my gg-grandfather. One of the other children should be your gg-grandfather (Jean Baptiste, your John B., born 1826)).

For some reason when the Balthazor family came to Illinois the 1880 census has their name listed as Beltzer so with the changing of names from Francois to Frank, Jean Baptiste to John B., etc. it can become confused.

I can trace my ancestry from Francois Xavier(married Marie Audet) to Francois Joseph Balthazor(born 1851 Bourbonais, Il,married Emerance Savoie and Julia Clark), to George Balthazor ( born 1877 Kankakee, Il. married Elizabeth DeNoyer), moved to ND, to my father Raymond (born 1913, married Eleanor Childs) who is still alive (94 years old)living in Anacortes, WA. I live in Mukilteo, Wa just north of Seattle and was born in Seattle in 1943.

I then have two sons, Garth (born in Germany 1972) and Andrew (born Seattle in 1984).

Garthe has 3 young sons, 13, 10, 8 years old lving in Huntsville, Al.

That completes my ancestry back to 1710 from Lorraine ,France. Interestingly growing up I was always told we were from the south of France. Not true. It may be that Martin was assigned to a France regiment from the south of France when he came to Canada thus sparking a rumor on our hertiage which was perpetuated for almost 300 years on my side of the family.

Hope this helps...if not we should talk on the phone to clarify.

I also have some information as to why some of the Balthazor's left Illinois and immigrated west...ND, SD, Wis, Kansas, etc.

Best for the season,
Darrell Balthazor

I'm sure you have connected your gggrandfather to the original.. Jean Balthazard from Lorraine France..to...Martin Balthazor dit St. Martin ..to...Michael Amable dit St. Martin ...and finally Francois B. Balthazor... It is here that we split off I believe. My ggggrandfather (Francois-Xavior born ab. 1826)was the brother of yours (Jean Bapiste born ab. 1827). Mine ended up in Kankakee while yours went elsewhere.
Darrell Balthazor

Related to Balthazard that lived in Boltonville, WI. He was born in Montreal in 1826. John B. Balthazard. Came to US at age 18. Guessing there may be a connection but someone likely changed the spelling of the last name.
Michael,
Related to Balthazard that lived in Boltonville, WI. He was born in Montreal in 1826. John B. Balthazard. Came to US at age 18. Pasted the post from Bob below. Guessing there may be a connection but someone likely changed the spelling of the last name.
Bruce

Not clear on the Martin Balthazor to Michael Amable to Francois Balthazor connection. Any chance you could provide addtional info. Francois-Xavior and Jean Baptiste were the sons of Francois B if I read your post correctly.
Bruce
