I generally have been researching the Balthrop genealogy for about 10 years (along with other lines) and have a little info that might be of interest to you. But the info doesn't mesh neatly with the data you presented in your post. If you would like to exchange what we know in more detail, perhaps we can dig out and make more sense out of the data available. My addy is ghbalthrop@sbcglobal.net.

Perhaps, but I can't find any documentation to support that.In the 1910 census she isn't listed in James and Mattie Balthrop's household, and Mattie is shown on the 1920 census as having birthed 2 children with none living on the census date. In the 1920 census she is shown in their household as 12 years old. Given that documentation it is difficult to make a case that she was not adopted. I show Etilee as having married twice - to James Embrey(1928) & Clyde White(no date) - no documentation reference on either. When the 1940 AR census gets a search menu I will see what is shown there.

I have dug out pretty much the same data you report on Etelee and Arvil James Balthrop (and parents). However, I show Hattie Griffin rather than Mattie Griffin, but that probably was obtained by a difficult-to-decipher census entry (an 'H' and a 'W' might look the same). As for Ethelee, I suspect, but don't knnow, that she was adopted because she was not shown in the family in the 1910 census when she would have been 2 years old.

Dora (Balthrop) Jackson (b. 1852, NC), dau. of J.W. & Harriet Balthrop

I’m trying to sort a mess of William Jackson men in and around Franklin County, North Carolina, in the 1800s. Working on that tangle, I found a North Carolina Standard Certificate of Death for Mrs. Dora Balthrope Jackson, who died from mitral regurgitation on 24 June 1918 in Louisburg, Franklin County, North Carolina. Her usual residence was in Louisburg, where she had lived for 18 years, 5 months, and 24 days.

Dora Jackson’s Personal Particulars were listed as Female, White, and Widow. She was the wife of William D. Jackson.

Dora Jackson, a housewife, was born on 3 September 1852 in Warren County, North Carolina. Her age at death was 65 years, 9 months, and 11 days.

Her father was John Balthrope, born in Warren County, North Carolina.

Her mother was Harriet Daniel, born in Warren County, North Carolina.

Dora Jackson was buried at the Louisburg Cemetery.

The Informant on the death certificate was J.H. Best of Mapleville, North Carolina.

Mapleville is in Franklin County, four or five miles east-southeast of Louisburg.

I believe the future Dora Jackson was the Dora A. Balthrop listed in this household Cedar Rock Township, Franklin County, North Carolina, in 1850:

Dwelling 207

BALTHROP J.W. 54 Male White NC Farmer
BALTHROP Harriet 52 Female White Keeping House
BALTHROP Dora A. 17 Female White At Home

By some accounts J.W. Balthrop was John W. Balthrop and Harriet Balthrop was Harriet (Daniel) Balthrop.

In 1880, William D. Jackson was head of this household in Cypress Creek Township, Franklin County, North Carolina:

JACKSON W. D. Head Married Male White 36 NC NC NC Farmer
JACKSON Dora Wife Married Female White 26 NC NC NC Keeping House
JACKSON Leroy Son Single Male White 5 NC NC NC
JACKSON Hallie Daughter Single Female White 2 NC NC NC

William and Dora Jackson also had another daughter, Alice (b. 1881), and another son, William D. (b. 1886). On the 1900 census, a widowed Dora Jackson was listed as having had four children, all of whom were still living.

Given William and Dora Jackson named a son Leroy, was Dora’s husband William the 7-year-old son of Leroy Jackson and Sarah (Daniel) Jackson listed in Dwelling 729 of the 1850 census of Davis District, Franklin County, North Carolina?

Were Sarah (Daniel) Jackson (b. ~1812, NC) and Harriet (Daniel) Balthrop (b. ~1798, NC) kin?
My father passsed away when I was 5, his name was Billy Loyd Balthrop born 6/19/1938. The information I have gotten is spotty. I was told he was married in Oklahoma to a women and fathered 4 children (maybe) I know for sure one of the names is Kay Balthrop. I pulled an article that warded her to the state and the name was Kay Balthrop Chester. I have not been able to find any other information. Also I believe my grandfathers name was Howard Balthrop, that could be wrong. I know my grandmother maiden name was Patterson. Any information would be great.

Well, I don't know how to say I am sorry, as soon as I posted this last message, I seen what I was doing. Not William Jr and Frances Kitchen' son, John but the next generation, John that was born to John and Jemima White, his children is the ones I was looking for. So sorry. Wow pretty dense, guess that answers that one. Me that is.

I am not doubting your verification, I am talking about the John Baltrip that is the son of William Baltrip Jr and Jemina White b. 1756 Warren County, do you know who his children are?

Also, We have a William Baltrip, with a dozen different spellings in Lone Mountain, Tennessee with a Sarah Tankersley, that was born about 1775 NC, He was the one I was wondering if it could be him, The name John and William is very prevailent in our family, which I am sure it was in many.I have seen our name spelled so many different ways it isn't funny, I've just about reached the decision that anything beyond Balt could be ours, just half joking.

Goodmoring My Cousin,

The only thing I know is that there were two sets of Boyd in my family My grandmother married Romy Boyd we called him Roney Boyd and My grandmother's sister, Martha Boyd married a Boyd from Virginia. If you might have read in the paper about a John Boyd from Bracey and Baskerville Virginia fighting for the farmers in that area, he is a Boyd on my aunt Martha side. check out LaCrosse and Bracey, SouthHill, Baskerville Virginia. There is a lot of Boyds in that area and I suspect that we will all tie in. Macon North Carolina is not that far from the above Virginia areas. My aunt Martha had 15 children.

I married (ex-Husband) a Harris from Clarkville Virginia his name is Herman Harris His Father Name was Charlie Harris and they both was born in Virginia his Mother name was Marie Walker-Harris Herman Granfather was Born in Oxford North Carolina and he said that there were over ten children. Charlie and Marie had 15 children. Herman mother Marie Walker Harris's, mother's name was Mamie Walker she had 20 sister and brothers, I am giving you this information because I see their is some Harris/Harriss on our family tree. and I have found what goes around comes around.
Clarkville, SouthHill, bracey, Lacrosse, Baskerville, are in Meckleburg County Virginia, and you might find more Boyd information in the Boydton Court House and I again suspect that Boydton Virginia was name after a Boyd (White)
Hope to get to see you in the near future. I have attended one of the Boyd's family reunion about 2 years ago I hope to attend this coming year reunion. I am living in Richmond Virginia, but my son and Nephew is still living in Boston, Massachusetts Kevin Boyd and James Boyd Kevin is 36years old and James will be 38 this year. James is my decease sister's son. How old are you? I am 53.
jackie

Harold: hope this finds you some two years later. We are from the William Balthrop Sr. line (1752 Westmoreland County VA - 1836 Dickson Co TN) and his son William Jr., brother to your Wylie. (It was refreshing to see you use the proper Wiley instead of Willie or yet another William!!!).

So far, we only go back to Wm. Sr. - I was trying to find further info when I saw your posting - and no, there is not much Balthrop to this day. But, starting with Wm. Jr. in Dickson Co TN, there is a LOT of data. There is a whole chapter on Balthrop in The Primal Families of The Yellow Creek Valley which we have in our data base.

Step 1. Please visit our (unusual) web site to get the details that you need:

http://68.49.137.226:65500/FamilyTree/home.asp

You can either type in the Wylie name on the Home Page and get a hit, or click on the Norris - Thompson Clan and explore. In either case, be sure to: a) click on the words No Photo to see the full Bio Page of any person, b) click on the Tree, Book, three People, etc.. (be a little patient with the Ancestors and Descendents - the data base is getting a little unweildy).

If you want to print out our unusual charts, be sure to set the Printer to .5" margins and Landscape.
If you have any difficulties, please call, write, whatever. We are happy to share data - and have even snail mailed printouts to other distant cousins.

Step 2. We would love to add to our database, especially Dickson County - please send any amount of data in any format. (Just this side of weird: there are three or four of our major lines that we already have that did the VA/NC/TN/TX route. I know there was a westward expansion, but we have more than a fair share of family winding up in TX). Tecky son Daniel has so far handled anything thrown at him.

zieman3@comcast.net

Richard C. (Dick) Zieman
+ Margaret Carter Zieman - of the Norris/Balthrop line
1.
Re: Balthrop in Warren County, NC

Hey Cousin!

I havent made much progress over the summer. Attempts made to travel to Warren had to be put aside for more urgent matters. I really do need to get to the Courthouse to look at some documents there.

Helen shared with me a document she received <from you?> outlining Romy Boyd's line. I would certainly welcome any assistance you can offer. Other than your family branch, do you know anything more about the Boyd family?

Balthrop/Lovell Marriage

I am searching for marriage date for Carl Balthrop and Ira Mae Lovell in either Cheatham or Davidson Co, TN. The year may be 1934-35. I believe they had two children. I would love to hear from anyone who knows about this family. Ira Mae was my Dad's first cousin. Thanks for any help.
Sue Airhart

Roberta,
Indeed he was! I am a descendant of the union of Simon M Balthrop and America B (Maggie) Slayden. She was the daughter of Daniel Everett Slayden and Elly Edna (Edney) Boyd, with a whole herd of siblings. And there's a whole lot more I can elaborate on if you like, as I have pretty extensively investigated this line notwithstanding there are still some gaps in the data. They had a couple of daughters whom I have not been able to dig up their lines. They also had a son that was murdered in California in 1895. I am interested in how you are related to this line, so you can contact me at my e-mail address off-message if you wish to have more extensive exchanges.
Hal Balthrop
