Age convention "year of age."

I have many nineteenth century records from Baltimore - both gravestones and death notices - that state that " so and so died in the fortieth ( or whatevever) year of their age." I find this ambiguous. Did "fortieth year" mean that the person was thirty-nine or forty?

GWW

He came to this country in 1904 witha step-father and used his name until he got older. The family settled outside Boston. Relatives?

Bielefeldt - Bealefeld - Blacksmith - Mt Winans Baltimore MD

Frederick Bealefeld was born about February 1823 in Hannover Germany - died June 27 1895 in Mt Winans Baltimore Md. His wife, Magdelena Soeder Smith Bealefeld, and seven children survived him.

He was a blacksmith who arrived in America in 1870.

In his obituary published in The Baltimore Sun on June 29 1895, the Minnesota and New York papers were requested to copy this obit.

Family lore has it that Frederick was a veterinarian in General Bismark's army while in Germany. Another lore is he worked in a hospital. He worked at Maryland Brick in Mt. Winans taking care of their horses. He had a blacksmith shop, with the name BIELEFELD on the front of the building.

His children include: Barney, John, Dora and Frederick.

Madgalena Soeder was married to a man named SMITH and had three chidren from him; supposedly died of TB and then married Frederick. After his death, she became a successful business owner of a saloon on Washington Blvd and Annapolis Rd in Baltimore Maryland.

Anyone with info on Madgalena and Frederick would be appreciated. Thanks!

Susan Rozar
Kenai Alaska

Do you have any indication of an African-American Baltimore marrying a Jackson? I am trying to help someone track down her grandfather's family, surname Jackson, middle name Baltimore. Interested in starting from the back and going frontwards, and the normal front to back has too many dead ends, most due to the burning of the 1890 census. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Good Evening Irene
I am researching my step grandfather Bonnie Baltimore.b. 1894 in TN. His death certificate list his parents as Joseph Baltimore and Hattie Prather/Prater. He lived around Poplar Bluff, Bulter County, Missouri. He died in thhe VA Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri in 1964. He married my grandmother Clemintine/Clemnie Sammons Jones some time before 1922. They had three children that I know of. Curtis b. 1922 d. abt 1984. m. Lillie Oaks. James W. (J.W.) b. 1925 d. abt 1985 m. ? and Bessie Jean b.? d.? m. 1. Losh 2. (boy Billy Losh). I have heard that there was a forth child but I can not it yet. There was a Jesse baltimore b. 1895 in Tn. thhat also lived in Poplar Bluff and I wonder it they were brothers. My grandmother's first husband was K. C. Jones and their child Marie Jones is my mother.
Thank you in advance for your time in this matter.
Grover M. K.
Hi, My granddaughter just returned from a class trip to France, being from Indiana, while touring the graveyard of the American servicemen, Elihue Baltimore from Indiana caught her eye, and she took a picture of the marker. I do genealogy constantly although the Baltimore family is not in my line, I know how much I would like this info, so if you are related to Elihue, I would be happy to make a copy and send it to you.

Cindy, I just happened to check the Baltimore board, and saw your message about Phillip Baltimore. You probably have the info by now., if not I have I believe, almost all of the info. Phillip Baltimore , was first married to Mary Wood in Ky. He had many children with Mary, and I have those also. He then married Sarah West, and I am from their daughter Mary, who married Jacob Becktell . Yes, I also have the info on Catherine, b. 8 June, 1827 a full sister to my Mary. She and Aaron Dimmitt went to Iowa. Phillip's father was also Phillip, and his mother was Mary unknown. I found their marriage liscense, and have misplaced it. He and Mary came from England. His legal records are in Franklin Co Pa. 1770. Another child Catherine who married Joseph Hancock. went with her brother Phillip, and their mother Mary to Ky, and that is where he met, and married Mary Wood 8 Aug 1794 Mason Co Ky. You may have all this by now if not, let me know.

Samuel Baltimore born between 1893 and early 1900s

I am looking for Samuel B. Baltimore born between 1893 and the early 1900s. He was from Indiana. He served during WWI. We have been told he was shot during WWI and may have gone to a Military Home. I have found a Samuel Baltimore on the 1930 Census living in Jefferson, Montgomery, Ohio in National Military Home. I don't know if this is the Samuel I am looking for but could be. The census shows that Samuel and his parents were all born in Indiana.

Samuel and Hazel Marie Hite from Ohio were together during the mid 1920 to 1930s or later, according to family. They may have married in Ohio, Indiana or Kentucky in June 1929; I have not been able to locate their marriage in any of the above states.

Hazel Marie Hite and Samuel Baltimore had five children 3 daughters and two sons, all still living. Hazel placed an ad advertising her children in the Sacramento Newspaper in the 1940s. Most of her children ened up in the Califonia Foster Care System and two or three were adopted. One was my husband, the other was one of his sisters. From what we have been told she had 8 to 9 children. We have found 3 siblings so far.

We are trying to prove or disprove Samuel B. Baltimore from Indiana as the father of Hazel's children.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Joy
April 11, 2006
