Harriet, I am sorry I haver taken so long,I was off line, for quite some time. In answer to your question. Excerpt from court records of Knox County. In Oct 1816, Sarah Tankersley was appointed guardian by the probate court of Knox County, of John Washington and Lucinda Tankersley. She made bond with William Baltripp as surety. The 1840 census of Claiborne Tn shows Wm Baltrip as head of householdand a woman the age of Sarah Tankersley. 1850 census lists Sarah by name, but of course under Baltrip. 1850 also lists a Rebecca Lanksley, maybe a misspelling of Tankersley? in the Baltrip household. 1860 census lists a Louisa Tankersly in the Baltrip household., possibly the Lucinda mention before. Baltrips have not been easy for me to find prior to them being in Lone Mt, Claiborne County, Tn. The census does list Wm and Sarah Baltrip as originating in Nc, I do find a few Baltrips in Wilkes County, Nc at the same time, altho I can not verify they are my Baltrips, and they are connected to a Edmund Denny, which I am not sure what the story is there. Seems like I hunt in Nc for Baltrips & tankersleys, I am led to Wilkes County, and Edmund Denny. Do you have a William and Sarah Tankersley in Wilkes County, that you could clue me in on?
