I am also looking for family with similar spelling. My spelling is Bealts which I now know is an incorrect spelling because all spellings found are from my immediate tree -- my mom, her siblings and that's it.

I wonder if there is a possible connection here. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Maybe we can work together.

rmosley@rhondamosley.com

Hello,
I am also researching the Baltz family (settled in Philadelphia in the late 1800's.) On the 1880 Census form, Henry Baltz (1846-?) from Philadelphia states that his father (no name given) was from Hessen. In my research, I found the Johann Phillip Baltz was from Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. If he was born in 1830, that would make him a 16 year old father of Henry which seems dubious. I also don't know of any relatives from Illinois, but you never know. I would be interested in seeing what you have uncovered. I hope to hear from you. Janet

The timing of your note is amazing. I was doing this research for my step-father. I haven't pursued it in years. But just 3 days ago my step-father passed away. His sister (age 88) will be here next weekend for the memorial service, so I will try to quiz her for information.

Your information looks like it has potential. I will definitly pursue it. Thanks so much.

He married Elizabeth J., who was born in New York, and had several children, one of whom was Joseph Martin Baltz, my husband's grandfather.

Hi, I don't know whether you're still working on your family tree, but I believe Joseph Ludwig (Louis) Bals might be your guy. He's the brother of Ernest Bals, my husband's great grandfather. Joseph married Josepha Weidemann. I'm not sure when they came over from Germany, but they did have three daughters, so far as I can tell: Katherine, Caroline and Josephine, not sure of birth dates for Katherine and Josephine. I found Joseph as Louis in several New York city directories. His daughter Caroline was living with Ernest's family in the 1920 census.

Do you know any more?

His father was from Germany; hers from France. They had 3 daughters:
Carrie born in 1875, Jennie, born in 1887, and Edith born that year, and was 11 mo. old. I am looking for relatives of George Bals, my GGGrandfather who settled in Michigan.
Good Luck. Carol

My grandmother was a Baltz. The Baltz lived in Saunders Co. just across the Platte river from Dodge Co, Fremont, Ne. There is a cemetery in the Pohacca area where many of the Baltz family are buried. The church was destroyed by someone starting it on fire. My great grandparents Herman and Katie (Backhous,Backhus) Baltz are buried in that cemetery. There was a Frank Baltz whom my grandmother said was a cousin to her dad. Frank's granddaughter (?)is also researching that family and I am in contact with her.

I think you are correct as they both ended up in Spencerville, DeKalb County, Indiana. The History of Spencerville has a photo of Jacob Baltz working in his blacksmith shop. I don't know who their parents were, but would be glad to share what I have. John Baltz was born in Iugenheim, Germany. Do you know if that is the same area as where Jacob was born? I have a old family bible with some family information written in German that I think came from the family of one of the two wives of John.

The 1880 census is free at LDS Family Search site and has your August Baltz family in Barry MI.

1870 lists both families in Orleans, Jefferson County NY:

BALTZ, Elizabeth, 64, b. Darmstadt Germany
George, 28, NY
August, 19, NY

Simonet, Marcel, 69, b. France
Adaline, 57, France
Eugene, 23, Eugenia, 1(also KEPLER, John, 17, NY living with family)

Good luck with the hunt.
Of the information I have, their is a Elizabeth Mary Baltz born in 1872. She was married to Peter Louis Ludwig Hageman. I haven't seen anyone with the name Charlie. The descendancy chart I have has many women with the middle name Mae. I know for a fact that I am a descendant of John Baltz who was born in Morschweiler, France. He was married to Theresa Dooszmann. They had a son, John Friedrick Baltz who was born in Ferdiandshoff, Pommern. He was in the Prussian Military. He married in Germany in 1867 to Amelia Koehler. They immigrated to Henry Co., Illinois. They later moved to Nebraska in 1870. Does this tie into your family?
Karen Baltz Gibbs

Carlton Joseph Baltz and Bessie Baltz Cusick Wistner

Carlton Joseph Baltz and Bessie Baltz Wistner were given up to orphanages in or near Buffalo NY at young ages circa 1909-1910. There is family rumor of a car wreak or father leaving the family or that their mother died and he was unable to care for the two children. Bessie was adopted by a Cusick family and married Albert Wistner who sold bakery equipment in Buffalo. Carlton grew up in a orphanage ran by nuns and worked on a farm in the summer for a man whom he lived with. I haven't had access to 1920 census records to locate him as of yet. Carlton is my husband's grandfather. He married Helen Radlich. Carlton died May 2 1995 at his residence 132 Briarwood Dr, West Seneca NY. His daughter still resides at this address. Bessie contacted Carlton in his later years and told him of them being brother and sister. There is no record of a marriage for Carlton and his wife Helen. Anyone with info...
