Hello Dave: I was glad to see a reply to my message. In June of 1998 my son, his wife I flew to London. There we rented a car drove north to Preston which is now the County seat for all of the smaller townships in the area including Bamber Bridge. This is the town where the Bambers came from when they came to America Canada. We stayed for two days at a B B Hotel where we became friendly with the owner. She gave me a phone book which has a whole page listing all of the Bambers in the area. Since the Bambers were Catholic we went through two
Catholic Church Cemeteries with large headstones but found no Bambers on them. We then went to the door of the Cathedral
asked the Priest if there were many Bambers in past present in the Church He
said yes. It was Sunday Afternoon His Secretary was not in, other wise we would be
welcome to come on Monday The Secretary would show us all of the Church rolls of the Bambers. We had to leave the next morning for Brussels where we were to attend my Grand
daughter's covocation dinner from Graduate School so didn't get to go back.
Bamber Bridge is an Ancient town in Preston are Libraries, Museums a Bookstore
all with information about Bamber Bridge surrounding, small towns. We made copies of
a paperback Library book (They have a copier are very happy to let people copy material) I bought a new Bamber bridge Publication at the book store. We were directed to a retirement home in Bamber Bridge where an old man was delighted to tell us of some of the history of the town.
The Bambers were farmers it seems that the area raised cotton had textile facories.
I'll write more later to tell you how we contacted people in the County offices
perhaps to Email some Bamber Phone numbers addresses. So for now, God Bless. Joan.
