Seeking the identity of Thomas Bamber's parents and siblings. Thomas Bamber married Ellen Spencer on April 3, 1842, in St. Louis, Missouri.

I believe this Ellen to be the daughter of John Jackariah Spencer and Elizabeth Spencer, nee Kershaw of St. Clair and Edwards Couties in Illinois.

Ellen was born in Lancashire (probably near Chorley, Brindle or Liverpool...possibly Manchester) and remained in England with her brothers, James and William, and their families until migrating ca 1839-40. She may have made the passage where the ship was driven against the Cuban Breakers after losing its mast in a storm in 1839. The passengers survived for 71 days on shell fish and mahogany berries until a passing vessel took them to New Orleans. The wrecked ship or the rescuing ship was the 'John Taylor'. It had most likely sailed from Liverpool, but I do not know that.

Her parents and several other siblings had made the crossing in 1831 from Liverpool to NYC. They initially settled in Utica and Oswego, New York, before migrating to St. Clair and Edwards Counties of Illinois. Ellen's maternal grandparents, John Peter and Margaret Kershaw, nee Osswell, had made their voyage in June / July of 1818 arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They settled near what would become Grayville, Illinois...a small town that straddles three county lines of White, Wabash and Edwards Counties in Illinois and is juxtaposed to the Big Wabash River and Posey County, Indiana.

I would appreciate any information regarding Ellen and Thomas...the names of their descendants...their residences and migrations. I think Ellen may have died young, as she is not listed in the 1856 will of her parents. I would appreciate any census lookups, especially, for 1850 in Illinois and Missouri.

I am attempting a website for John Peter Kershaw and John Jackariah Spencer and their descendants. It would be great to be able to include the Bamber cousins, the dates and names and locations. Anyone else researching this family is welcome to contact me.

Any assistance will be most appreciated.
