Dear Roger,

It was good to hear from you and yes, my great grandfather Henry K-B was indeed born in 1834. I have recently been in touch with another relative from Australia who has sent me a very good family tree which I have found most helpful as I knew very little about the Kelway Bambers. Would be interested in hearing more from you.

Lynette

I assume your Henry Kelway was born 19/3/1834. If this was the case My Charles Henry Kelway was his brother.
All the old photos have been posted on my Ancestry.com free tree. I you wish to have photos from there, you just need to copy and paste to your own computer.

I would like those who also have photos to post their photos so we can see if there are any similarities to the people's features. If you have Bamber photos - please post them here...or to a free Ancestry.com tree you can build.

As I said before..these photos may just be of the "Oswell" family from King's Lynn, Norfolk, England and not 'Bambers' at all...that is why we need to establish which family they belong to by comparing your old Bamber photos to the ones I have posted.

Hi Karen,
I'm in touch with Marilyn Locke whose grandmother was Agnes BAMBER who married Ralph Locke in the Campbellford area.
Marilyn remembers quite a few Bamber relatives and who they married. I will ask her and then give you the information if she knows anything about an Ida Bamber.

As for the Urquart surname - I came across this name while browsing my grandmother NEALON's funeral book. Apparently, and Urquart attended and signed her book.
still looking? David Bamber (married to Elizabeth Magee)is son of William John Bamber and Agnes Rodgers (married 1897 in Antrim)William John born 1869 in Ballymena and died Belfast 1918.
Elizabeth Magee is daughter of John Magee and Margaret Jane Idles. They were married 1889-90. The signatures of John, Margaret Jane, William John, and Agnes can all be found on the Covenant/Declaration signed in Belfast.
I believe Agnes Rodgers father is named Thomas and that William John Bamber's father is named David and mother is possibly Rose Ann Dickey. Can anyone elaborate further...I'm a bit stuck at this point.

Dear Mr. Taylor,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, and yes, my Oswald is the son of Thomas and Sarah, although her name was Sallie, born in Oswaldkirk Yorkshire., and he was in Leavonsworth prison, incarceration date 26 April 1918. so he is definately the same Oswald Bamber as you are researching.
I too have requested the file of his prison record, but as yet have not received it due to the bad weather delaying postal deliveries, I also had an address where I could request a copy of the court proceedings, but I have not done that as yet.
Oswald seems to have criss crossed the Atlantic quite a few times, and I have tried to follow his movements with ship's passenger lists etc.
I believe that after his first wife ( Kate ) died, he sent his two daughters back to the U.K. to be brought up by their grandmother Sallie in Yorkshire, and I have had a lot of photographs sent to me by the son of Isobel Mary, Kate's daughter.
He informed me that after Oswald married again he had a son Arther, but he didn't have any more information about him.
What relation are you to Oswald ? and where do you live ?
I'm sure that the prison file will make interesting reading, so I hope it comes soon.
I have not heard of a Marion Edge at all.
I have quite a lot of information about the Bambers and the Thorpes.
Please feel free to e-mail me directly, if you wish, instead of going through the ancestry message board.
My e-mail address is rosemaryramm1@yahoo.co.uk in case you have mislaid it.
If I don't hear from you soon, have a happy Christmas.

Regards,

Rosemary
Dear Rosemary,

Following is a communication I received from the National Archives regarding Oswald Bamber's incarceration at Leavenworth prison. If your Oswald is the son of Thomas and Sarah, he is my Oswald who was convicted in Detroit, MI of violating the Immigration Act. I am going to request the 35 page prison file including photograph and I have an address to request the court proceedings documents. I am wondering if the violation involved the cross-border adoption of my father and his siblings. Family lore has it that the father of the children forced the mother to give up the children - perhaps for money. Perhaps the court proceedings will reveal the relationship between Marion Edge and Oswald Bamber.

Dear Mr. Taylor,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Oswald Bamber which was forwarded to me to answer. I have located inmate number 12319 listed as Oswald Bamber, white male. I have recorded some information to assist you. According to our records, Oswald entered the penitentiary on April 26, 1918, charged with violating the Immigration Act and was convicted in Detroit, Michigan. He listed his age in 1918 as 34 years old which would indicate he was born about 1884. His file indicated that he was born in England. Furthermore he listed his mother as Sarah and his father as Thomas. He also indicated that he was married, though his wife was deceased at the time of his incarceration. His intake form does not mention the name of his wife. The file includes 35 pages including a photograph.

National Archives at Kansas City

Hi Rosemary, my name is Burt Taylor. My Oswald Bamber was associated with a woman named Marion Edge who lived in Vancouver around 1915. It appears that between 1916 and 1919 they put up three children for adoption in the Windsor, Ontario/Detroit, Michigan area, one of whom was my father. Around 1919 Bamber was involved is some kind of deportation activity and Marion Edge returned to England where the fourth child was born and remained in the custody of Edge near Brighton. I have requested information from Leavenworth about the Oswald Bamber record there and that seems to fit with fear and loathing about him in family lore. I have only guest status on ancestry.com so limited ability to communicate with you. If you email me at betaylor@sbcglobal.net I can forward a letter from Eric (Anthony) to you along with thoughts and questions it raises for me. All the best, Burt
