Hi!

Most interesated in your posting. I sent the following to the chap with e-mail bambergmagic@gmail.com but no reply as yet.
Hi!

I picked up your e-mail address from a thread on ancestry.com.

The reason I contacted you is that we are putting together a book on the pioneers in South West Australia based on my father-in-law's experiences in the 1920s. He writes of seeing the Bamberg brothers in Denmark, South West Australia. I wonder if you have any photographs of the brothers or their billboards etc which we could add to the large collection of photos contained in the book.

So wondered if you have any of teh above information.

Many thanks

Julian Brown

Hi,
I am also a Bamberg (Bamburg) researcher and live in SC. I was once in touch with Robbie and know of her excellent work. I have not been actively researching during the past 10 years but am returning now that I have retired. I've got a lot of catching up to do. I'm not familiar with Jarrett Taylor Bamburg.

It's good to know others are still "on the hunt" for ancestors. Let's hope others will join in (return) and we can get a good thread going on Bamberg (Bamburg) lines.

I'm researching Molton Knight, whom I've seen linked to the Bambergs and Loves (possible first and second wives). He is listed in the 1850 US census in Clarke Co., MS, with wife Mary and children William, Sarah, James, and John. Specifically, I'm trying to track what became of his son, John Knight, b 1844.

Jacqueline, I dont know if this will be of any help, or if you're even still interested, as I noticed you posted this in 2005, but my name is steve Bamberg. Elias, and Rosina would have been my Great grandparents. My grandfather was born Salomon, but changed his name to Charles Bamberg. He and several of his brothers lived and raised families in or around Freeport Illinois. Charles had three children, Charles Jr., Rose, and my father Jerry Elias bamberg. To this date there are still several family members in the Freeport area.

Please let me correct the last paragraph of my earlier posting. The George Bamberger listed on the 1810 census cannot be John George Bamberg as he died in either 1801, 1803 or 1804 as per several different documents. It could be his son, George, or someone completely unrelated. Sorry for the confusion.
Hi,
I believe her name is Mary as I find Molton Knight,, age 60 b. SC, on the 1850 census of Clarke Co., MS with wife Mary, age 49, b. SC, and children, William age 14, Sarah age 12, James age 10 and John age 6.

On Ancestry.com, the Alabama Marriage Collection from 1800-1969 shows a Moulton Knight married Emily Carter on 22 Jun 1838 in Perry Co., AL. However, my records have a note that Mary? Bamberg was his 2nd wife. I also believe there were 2 Moulton Knights in Perry Co. around that time so this is probably a different one.

All the information I have seen on the Bambergs say that a daughter of John George Bamberg had 2 illegitimate children, father of them unknown. Apparently, this was a terrible disgrace during that time and every effort was made to keep it secret. My records indicate that his first child was a male, Daniel, born in 1783 and the next child was a female born 1790. After that he had children born every year or so. It seems strange that there were no children for 7 years and then 6 spaced only a year or so apart.

On the 1790 SC census, George Bumberg or Bamberg is shown with 1 male over 16 (George) and 2 males under 16 which would be Daniel and another I don't have. It also shows 4 females, one of which would be his wife, one the daughter, Rachel born Feb. 1790, and 2 I don't have listed. I believe one of these to be the unnamed daughter. Most records I have seen list John George's wife as Anna Mary Allen, and a daughter named Mary for her mother would make sense. It's also possible other male under 16 and the other female are actually grandchildren and are the illegitimate children of his daughter although the dates don't work.

By the 1810 census, there are only 3 in the household, 1 male (George) and 2 females (wife and daughter Nancy Rose, born 1796.

Please know none of this is proven, other than the census records, that I know of and are only my personal thoughts. It does give some basis for further research.

Fay (Hill) Adkins
CONFUSION BETWEEN THE FOUR GEORGE BAMBERGS

There has been considerable confusion in the identities of these four George Bambergs. This might help:

1st
John George Bamberg, parents unknown, was born around 1755/1760, place unknown, & died 1801/1802 in Barnwell Co SC. His wife was Ann Mary. John George is known as a soldier & as a minister. His widow married Mr. Orth.

2nd
George Bamberg, son of John George, was born about 1784/1792 in Lexington Co, Orangeburg Dist, SC & died 1836 in Perry Co AL, cause unknown. His wife was Mary, maiden name unknown. THIS GEORGE DID NOT HAVE A MIDDLE NAME.

3rd
George Thomas Bamberg, son of George, grandson of John George, was born about 1812/1815 in Barnwell Co SC & died March 1847 in Perry Co AL. His wife was Rebecca Manuel. George Thomas was drowned while moving cattle from flooded land. The inquest report simply states he was found "in the swamp on the Cahaba" and "came to his death from cold and drowning."

4th
George Bamberg, son of John George's daughter, grandson of John George, was born 26 July 1811 in Barnwell Co SC & died 17 March 1860 in Carroll Co MS. His wife was Julia Ann Swift. The given name of George's mother has not been found; his stepfather was Molten Knight.

Thanks.
RB

I have additional information I neglected to give in my previous response. George, when married to Josephine Haynes, had four children, Josephine, Frederick, George Edward and Charles Henry.

Amelia Bamberg was my grandmother and in my research of her family I have George Bamberg, b. Dec. 29, 1864 in Newton, Mass. and he died June 12, 1932 in Boston, Mass. He had a daughter Mary E. Bamberg, b. Feb. 19, 188Josephine Haynes.7, died September 10, 1887. I have no other information concerning George other than he was married twice, one was Mary E. McCarthy and the other. If I can be of further help let me know.
