Hi - I am Ruth, a grand daughter of Agnes Sarah Nicholl (b.14 Oct, 1871, nee Bamford). She was an elder sister of Arthur Bamford, which makes him my great uncle. Their parents are buried in the cemetery of St. Luke's Anglican church, Pembina Crossing (Manitou district) Manitoba; their grave stone has the dates you want. ---
However, I can give them to you here: Thomas John Bamford was born 16 May, 1834 at Gretton, Northamptonshire, England, and died 4 Dec, 1901, Manitou, Man.---
Elizabeth Wilders (nee Standwell) Bamford was born 24 Sept, 1836 in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, and died 12 June 1911, Manitou, Man. ---
I have heard the story of the coachman and the lady-in-waiting, but don't remember who told me. If it happened, I agree that it would have been Elizabeth Standwell - but have no idea how to confirm this. ---
I was told by my Aunt Lucy Nicholl (1897-1994) that before coming to Canada (1886) Thomas Bamford worked on an estate, connected to the name 'Eaton', in the county of Rutlandshire. I think he may have been the farm manager there, where he lived with his wife and children. ---
I have looked for references to the ancestry and siblings of this couple, both on line and in old diaries. Not much so far. However, here's what I've found:--
1) parents of Elizabeth: Mr Standwell; Mary Ann Wilder(s) b 4 June, 1809.
--2) siblings of Elizabeth: Millie (b. 17 May); Annie; Susan (b Nov 10, 1833 - d 1910); Thomas Wilders Standwell (b 1838; his name appears on the electoral roll for 1865/66 on Tory Street, Wellington, New Zealand).
--3) the last name 'Johnson' was connected, but I don't know how (Arthur's elder brother was Robert Johnson Bamford - buried at the Crossing where Arthur is). I have a birthday book started by Arthur's eldest sister Mary Elizabeth Nicholl (nee Bamford - she married the Rev, E. P. Nicholl, the widowed father of the man who married my grandmother, Agnes Bamford. Which makes her both my great aunt by blood, and my step great grandmother!). It lists many people who bear this name, some with either 'Standwell' or 'Wilders' in their names so they must be related. I suspect it was 'Susan Standwell' (see above, b 10 Nov, 1833 - d 1910) who married a Mr Johnson.
--4) I have found no ancestors of Thomas John Bamford so far.

I am trying to find the father of Thomas Bamford born in Lancashire England in 1837. His mother was Ann Bamford but she became a widow according to cencus records sometime before 1851. He is my great, great, great grandfather.

Thomas had a brother George (1843) and sister Sarah (1845). I cannot find any of their marriage records to identify who their father was... It may be William or a Charles but I cannot find sufficient information to support either.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am researching my family, the BAMFORD & DEAN names.
Since I wrote my last question in 2005 things have moved on. My GGG Grandfather William Bamford Married Rachel Dean in Samlesbury, He worked at Samlesbury lower hall & she lived at Samlesbury Bottoms, moving to Church Bottoms. I wanted to find out what William was doing there and if there was any records associated with the lower Hall. furthermore do you know how DEAN lane got its name. I wonder if the family had anything to do with it.

hi . my name is georgina , im not related to southworths but i do have family in samlesbury (hubberstys ) who have lived in the village since the doomday book was written . they live at sorbrose farm on nabs head lane . they are connected to southworths through samlesbury hall which was owned by the southworths ........ the grey lady from the hall also haunts sorbrose farm . i hope this helps you .

I just read your post. I have,in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery, a Charles S. Bamford, interred on November 14, 1871 and an Albert E. Bamford interred on April 3, 1868 then moved to be near Charles on December 28, 1871. The owner of the plot at that time was Andrew Smith of Scotland. His family and his neice's family(my gggrandmother) are buried there. After Andrew died (1877)the plot was turned over to a Charles Bamford. The next generation is listed. They are not buried there but they are listed as children of, etc. The names are as follows: Arthur Bamford, Dorothy Stephens, Patricia Evans, Joane Jones, Monty Jones, Rosemary Browning, Desmond Browning, Peter Bamford, David Bamford, Jane Gray, John Bamford, Anita Tangye, then is says and the children of Decd. Dtr, Maria Williams(whose names and addresses are unknown to Deponent) and the children of decd. Dtr Lady Eleanor Waring(whose names are unknown to Deponent) April 4, 1995.
I have no idea who the Bamfords are. I know all the other people in the plot, the MacKenzies and the Smiths the Bamfords are a mystery. Do you have either name in your research?

In my family plot at the Greenwood Cemetery there is a Charles S. Bamford who died in 1871 in New York. There is another Bamford, an Albert E. Bamford who died in 1868. I have no idea who these men are and have not read anything about them until today. The other family names in the plot are MacKenzie, Smith and Imrie. This family all lived in Brooklyn, New York.
In the note from the cemetery a lady Eleanor Waring is mentioned.

Looking for any info re: Edwin Bamford (Born 1846-48) he married Eliza Buxton (Born 1847-49)on the 3 August 1867 at Saint Stephens Church Rochdale, their place of residence at time of marriage was Packer Street, Rochdale. Fathers names were James Bamford and James Buxton and their occupations were recorded as Cotton and Woollen Carder and Flannel Manufacturer.
Edwin and Eliza came to Australia on the 'Anne Duthy' arriving on the 29th September 1869.
My main area of interest lies in finding out more about their parents if there were any siblings and if so where are they.

on thursday afternoon at the bourn hotel, west hartlepool, mr coroner settle held an inquest into the cause of death of an eighteen months old child named john william bamford,
of sarah street, west hartlepool, who died on tuesday night from the effects of scalds sustained the previous day. it appeared from the statements made to the coroner that the child's mother was preparing dinner about noon on monday, and placed a cup of broth on the table from a pan she had on the fire, to cool. while her back was turned the child, who was playing near, reached the cup and pulled it over, the contents running down his breast and severely scalding him. doctor sutherland attended the child twice in the same day, but without avail, and he expired within about thirty hours of the accident. a verdict of 'accidental death' was returned.

Don't know if you have any inf on Walmesles who lived at Scholley Hall clayton le woods.The last 2 I know of were Anthony Nugent Walmesley and his brother. My family Cusse have carried the name Nugent Walmesley as middle names. I have a painting which ia about to be restored and it may be of Scholley Hall or the Lower Hall.

Hi, don't know if I have anything to offer, but here is what I have.
I am descended from Bamfords of Rochdale England.
My great grandmother was Mary Ann Bamford. She was born about 1855 at Rochdale. In 1871 she arrived in Canada, worked as a domestic in Ottawa Canada. On Oct. 28, 1872 she married my great grandfather John McDermott. They had a large family. Her parents were John Bamford and Mary Ann Howe.

Was James H Bamford's parents Joseph and Emma? If so, his parents emigrated to America (California)between 1881 and 1891. Ypo might find that James and Sarah went out there later as there are several Bamfords listed in the USA census returns.
I myself am the great grandson of Emma Bamford junior (Joseph and Emma's daughter) and live in England not far from Rochdale.

My great grandmother Emma Maskew (nee Bamford) had a sister who I believe is Hannah Kershaw. Hannah Bamford married Henry Kershaw in Rochdale in 1877.
My main interest is in finding the Bamford family in the USA. I have many photos of Hannah's brothers Jesse and James and their family in San Francisco. I am trying to find out when the family left England for the USA and the date and name of ship etc.

My great grandmother Emma and husband Sydney Maskew came back to Lancashire but I don't know when. I presume all the Bamford family remained?I think there were 9 children to Joseph and Emma Bamford(senior); Hannah's parents.
Sydney Maskew and Joseph Bamford were grocers. I wonder if Joseph continued this occupation in San Francisco?

Any help would be most welcome!

I happened upon your message and wonder if the name Cairn is linked to any of the Bamfords you have in your tree. My grandmother, who I know little about, was a Bamford and her mother's maiden name was Cairn. They seemed to have settled in Marshall, MN. My grandmother had, I think, six brothers.

My husband's Bamfords emmigrated about 1863-65 to the NYC area.... we have found many of them in the huge Brookyln, New York Greenwood cemetery,( ALL of the burials are on line ) but don't know much of their Wales life preceding that time.

Try Wales. Our Bamfords are all from Wales - and Manchester is not that far from Northern Wales. Llangollen, Wales is about an hour from the Manchester airport. Good luck!

My great-grandmother was Edith Bamford, born Lancashire 1873. She worked as a dressmaker and lived in Altrincham. In 1895, she had an illegitimate son - Eric Bamford - who was sent to live with a widow and her two daughters (also in the sewing trade), to avoid the scandal. It is thought that the unknown father was a Polish or German music student. Does any of this connect?

My mother is Joan Bamford, born November 1941, Liverpool England. It was confirmed today by her that she indeed gave birth to Mark Anthony Bamford in NYC in April 1966.

Joan is the mother of 5 children:

Anthony Bamford - Born 1961 in Scotland and put up for adoption. Anthony's adoptive name is Anthony (Tony) Jankowski. Tony still resides in Scotland, and is married with 4 children. We've been in contact since October 2007, including a face-to-face meeting in Atlanta in November of 2007.

Charles Bamford - Born 1963 in Scotland and put up for adoption. Charles's adoptive name is Paul Clark. Paul still resides in Scotland, and is married with 2 children.
