one further note.. with stephens history, on the marriage records his name is Stephen Banacki, of chicago, and some how between that record and the records of the family the name had changed to Banacka. Also another tidbit that may be obivious the whole family came out here to work for studebaker. from first moving to chicago at the early part of the 20'th century.

Its me.. the Notorious Brett that had been doing research, unfortunately its kinda vague and I lost most of my paperwork... from what I can remember at present. both researchable at the cass county records office, and or the genology index available at the south bend public library.. From what I do remember.. this specific surname is the feminine form of banacki, it settled in its current form upon the death of one of the twins of stephen banacki, who married flossie gridley. in cassopolis michigan, it seems that when one of their twin daughters died at I think 13, following polish custom the records were put in the feminine form of the surname (since english does not have masculine/feminine variant) seems our branch is identifyable by that variant. From what I do know from my research, we're all related to the banacki's of which stephen was the son of a john banacki (seems to be rather common from the other posting in this name list) From what I can tell also from the records.. the marriage certificate it lists stephen's place of birth as being chicago, wheras his obituatry lists him as being born in poland. that discrepancy and well the complete dissassociation with his fathers branch of the family, leads me to deduce that perhaps something along the lines of being disowned occured. (Someone else might know something about that) Also i've had this suspision that perhaps our common ansestor lacked certain immigration paperwork, and perhaps married into being an american. From what I also know the gridley family is from dowagiac MI, and that name specificly can be traced back to england and even records of that name in early colonies in mass..
