I've just returned from Ireland where I did some research on the Banahan family. They mostly come from County Roscommon. My great grand-father is Thomas Banahan. He emigrated from Ireland in 1870. In trying to find out where in county Roscommon he was from, I found the grave stone of a Patrick Banahan who died in Ballintubber in 1880 at the age of 71. That would put his birth date at 1809. The headstone was erected by John Banahan. The spelling on the head stone was spelled with one n, not two. However, my great-grandfather's name is spelled both ways, depending on the census year.
