I think we could be related. My Grandmother's name was Susan Banas she was married to John Chambers. She came from Pa. I though She was Russian. My father is digging out the family tree...we are trying to put our family tree together :-)

Piotr Banas was my great grandfather. He came to the United States in 1913 and ended up living in Chicago until his death in 1933. This link is to a manifest of passengers on board a ship headed to the US in 1913. Piotr Banas is listed on line 7. On line 6, there is a gentleman who has listed as his wife what seems to be Marya Banas. It's hard to read. These might be your ancestors. My great grandmother's name was Maria Banas (married to Adam Pavlisin). I believe they were Slovakian. Their daughter Susan (Zuzanna) is my paternal grandmother. I do not believe Adam & Maria ever immigrated to the US. I know the Pavlisin's settled in Pennslyvania. Please contact me if you think we are related. Thanks.

My mother had an uncle in Ontario who moved to British Columbia probably in the 1960s who was from Poland in the general time frame you mentioned in your message, now 11 years old. As I recall his name was Albert with a son Edward and a daughter Irene. A second daughter's name escapes me at the moment.

My mother sang in the Lutnia Choir 1939 / 1940 of the Divine Providence Polish National Catholic Church in Norwich. In the choir was Bronislawa Banas.
There is a grave stone in the DP PNCH cemetery with Banas. The Banas Sea Food Market was at 261 Central Ave.

Born Nov. 22, 1921, in East Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late James and Louise (Margherita) Pugliese. Mrs. Banas was a former member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Murrysville. She was the business manager of Churchill Valley Country Club for 35 years and loved every day working at the club. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, reader and Steelers fan. In her earlier years, Mrs. Banas also enjoyed needlepoint. Mrs. Banas was a very giving and caring person. After her retirement, while living in her apartment in Murrysville, she became a renowned cook and would prepare an abundance of meals, giving them to all the residents she knew. She enjoyed her visits from her grandchildren when they would travel from the southern states to spend time with her. Mrs. Banas also loved going to the grocery store every day to buy fresh items to cook up her special dishes for her neighbors in the apartment complex. She is survived by her loving daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Hill and her husband, Richard Hill, of Seven Fields; a brother, Peter Pugliese, of Greensburg; a sister, Josephine Costanzo, of Naples, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Jones and Wendy Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Blake and Grace Jones. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Banas, who died in 1998; and two sisters, Mamie Polic and Angeline Costanzo. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, in the Seaman Memorial Chapel, located at Passavant Retirement Community, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople, PA 16063. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205 or Passavant Benevolent Fund for patient care / LAS Foundation, 401 S. My grandfather Peter Banas was also from Kyjov. He and wife Maria Fialkovic lived in PA for a little while, but finally settled in Syracuse and Jamesville NY. Maria died in 1940. Peter died in 1976. They had 9 children - three are still living - including my father. I know that he had a brother in the states, but do not know his name. At the very least - being the same last name, same village - we must be cousins!!

I am Shirley P Banas, 52 years old. My father is Regino Taupa Banas from San Miguel Catanduanes. He is the youngest in the family. I remember his brother name is Roman, Jose and Lourdes and I remember he call it Manoy Poro but I did not see him only Mamay Doding and Papay Jose but they now dead. Do you know this old? I think joseph was born in CT and then moved to California after his time in teh Navy. i have a death notice of Joseph dated in 1974. my great-grandmother was katy banas/banyas. her sister was helen semancik who lived in blanford, in. katy married michael soltis and my grandmother was ann soltis. she remembers visiting helen and family in blanford, in. i have many photos of their visits. the soltis moved to flint, mi for work in the factories. i would love to know any info you have on this family. it has been difficult to research.

My grandfather was born in 1900 and his name was John and my grandmother was , I think , born in 1905 and her name was Mary and her maiden name was Bushe I think . Richard, I would love an information you have regarding your side of the family. My grandmother was the sister of Joseph A Banas (He was born in CT). from what I know he was inteh Navy and then moved out to California. I have him possibly marrying an Evelyn Carlson. I show joseph having three children Richard, Barbara and possiblya david. I was in contact with a Richard Banas years ago on this site but have since lost touch. At the time the Richard I wrote too had mentioned that he was possibly Deaf. If I remember his email was somethng like bigdeafguy@ .... If any of this rings a bell I would love to hear from you and I could fill you in on a lot of the side of the family that stayed on the east coast. Joseph was on of 8+ children. I recently discovered the village my grandmother, Anna Garbacz was born in. It is a tiny village south of Krakow, called Kobylczyna, near Ujanowice. There is/was a large number of families with the Garbacz name in this area. However, I have copies of the baptism records for the town for the years your grandparents were born. There is no record of anyone with their names there. Sorry, wish I could be of more help.

I am seeking information on the Garbacz family from Poland. My mother was Julia Mary Zysk, b. 1922 in Illinois. Her parents were Felix F. Zysk b. Sept. 14, 1885 and Anastasia A. Garbacz b. March 21, 1890, in Poland. Both my mother and grandmother died when I was a child, and I know almost nothing about their ancestry. I have beeen told that my grandmother was one of 11 children. I am not certain of accuracy, but the "English" translation names of her siblings as I was told, were: Frank, Margaret, Al or Albert, Jason, John, Catherine, Elizabeth, Emily, Robert, and Joseph Garbacz. I do not know how many of her siblings immigrated to the U.S. or if all of them remained in Europe.

I would welcome contact from anyone with information about the Garbacz family from Poland.

Iknow it's been years since your request so I don't know what you've found. In my search for Shutyak/Sutyak and the Chuba families I came across a Helen BANAS connected in the Bridgeport CT area. All these families stayed close since they came from the small town. I'm having trouble weeding out cousins unable to get direct. Sorry, I can go on and on.
If you still need info I will look over whatever I collected and send it. It may not be much. Talk to later.

I am looking for any info. on the the two Towns of Kyjov and Sambron. My great-grandparents came to the USA from these areas in the early 1900's and landed in NY NY. Both communities are close to the Polish boarder and near to one another. I am also researching the names: Telisky/Telicky/Tilicky/Banas/Banyas all in my grandfather's line.
Lukacsik/Lukachik in my grandmother's line.
Areas of research in the USA are Granville,NY/Portage PA/Bridgeport CONN

There are a few Banas families in Norwich. Was your grandfather, Frank from Norwich or was someone else from your family? When did they live there? My grandfather was Lawrence(Wawrzyniec) Banas, my grandmother was Anna. They had 2 children who lived into adulthood: My mother Elizabeth and her sister Caroline. My grandfather had a cousin Jan (John) who lived in Norwich as well for a while.

If you can give me some names of Norwich Banases and some dates of when they were in Norwich, maybe I can help.

I believe that Stanley was my grandfather's brother. My family is based in Meriden, CT. I have two brothers. I am the one who made the original post nearly 10 years ago trying to locate Richard and Barbara Banas. Although I have been trying to find them off and on since I moved to northern Caifornia nearly 40 years ago. I am amazed & delighted to hear from you. My name is Richard Banas II, and I am the nephew of Richard Banas and the son of Barbara May Banas. I would be happy to pass along any messages and will monitor this forum for any additional replies.
Richard Banas lives in California and Barbara Banas lives in Oregon. Both are the children of my grandfather, Joseph A. Banas, who passed away in 1974.

The name Duzenack is Slovak--your ancestors probably emmigrated during the Austro-Hungarian empire as our's did.There is a reference to Mike Duzenack in coal mine mortality lists for Huerfano County, Colorado:1-31-1945,at the Kebler#2 mine.( there are 2 Mike's for that county, but the other is my uncle, died WW2)Have you tried the Colorado GenWeb for searches? Stanley P. Banas, 79, of New Lenox passed away, Friday, March 10, 2006 at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Stanley is survived by his loving family, his wife, Eleanor M. Banas, nee Sundin; four daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Jones, Bernice Banas, Bonnie (Mike) Swift, Bettie (Chris) McCullum; three sons, Brod Banas, Brian (Cindy) Banas, Ben (Shelly) Banas; one daughter-in-law, Doreen (Jim) Cathers; one brother, three sisters, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
